Mums who squirt pouches into baby’s mouth

I find this so lazy and gross while out and about, seems to be increasing. Even worse when Mum is gazing into iPhone and not even looking what she’s doing !

Chewing up food and spitting it into your child's mouth? Get a grip.

SoyDora · 16/07/2018 20:39

I agree with chewing up food for them it’s more preferable

So eating from a pouch is gross but eating food that has been masticated by someone else (with who knows what bacteria in their mouth) is completely fine?

Haha you had me going for a while there!

ScandiManny · 16/07/2018 20:40

As Boston said, they're medically advised for babies with an unsafe or uncoordinated swallow. My youngest son included.

He spent the first few months of his life on a ventilator and because of this he can only tolorate thickened liquids. He also lost part of his bowel so can't tolorate dairy meaning yogurts out too so he fruit pouches are perfect for him when we're out and about. Much better than letting the poor boy dehydrate, even if he does look feral Hmm

Ellas Kitchens are organic, no preservatives and the packaging is recyclable, so ha! (dont know why I am so invested in this other than the stunning ridiculousness of this MN judgieness, as my oldest is well past weaning age at 5 - still enjoys a red or purple ellas kitchen after school mind you, they are great from the freezer in thia hot weather)

Chewing adult food so it is manageable and then giving them some, not spitting it into their mouth. Atleast is more natural. Fair enough I’m obviously in the minority but I am really against squiring manufactured crap out and about with baby. What happened to traditional meals and teaching the experience of eating.

The only fruit or veg my son ate for the first 2 years was the pouches. He was independent and never liked anyone spoon feeding him. I used to give him a pouch with some crackers or bread type thing and leave him to crack on. Most balanced diet he's ever had Grin

How is the former fundamentally different to the latter? The adult is still transferring all sorts of bacteria on to the food.
I would hazard a guess that the majority of parents who give pouches when out and about don’t give them for every single meal. They were invented for ease.
And if they do... well it’s still none of your business.

SharronNeedles · 16/07/2018 20:46

Ah sorry OP I didn't realise you were a bird! Yes it is important that baby birds eat regurgitated food from their mothers. I imagine those pouches are a bit big for their beaks!

Back in the real world, most of those pouches are just puree and hand to have with you incase you don't have any homemade puree to hand.

10storeylovesong · 16/07/2018 20:46

Why would you need to chew the food first?! My 8 month old can consume a full corn on the cob with no assistance from me whatsoever. He was eating whole bananas at 6 months. He would absolutely have lost his shit if I’d dared to chew it first!!

LoniceraJaponica · 16/07/2018 20:48

Loving the assumption that everyone has an iPhone Hmm

iklboo · 16/07/2018 20:51

What happened to traditional meals and teaching the experience of eating.

Presumably most people don't take a portable kitchen and dining room 'out and about' with them to cook & serve traditional meals.

FrayedHem · 16/07/2018 20:51

I saw a fox running down the road with a Tesco carrier bag. Probably been stocking up on Ella's Pouches.

MammaSchwifty · 16/07/2018 20:51

You really need to read up on cariogenic bacteria if you think feeding a baby pre-chewed food is a good idea.

Most of the time, people will use a pouch just if they are out and about. They are expensive and not usually a staple diet item.

Don't you fear, plenty of us are keeping busy washing, trimming, chopping, boiling, cooling, mashing, portioning, and freezing vegetables for our little ones. Keeps us out of trouble.

FrayedHem · 16/07/2018 20:52

What happened to traditional meals and teaching the experience of eating.

How do you know that doesn't also happen?

Neverender · 16/07/2018 20:54

Saves a dirty spoon - what's the issue?

DidimusStench · 16/07/2018 20:55

For baby PIGEONS perhaps.

But do please tell us more about your insightful observations of other’s parenting. I’m sure we all don’t give a crap could take some much needed advice and input.

welshmist · 16/07/2018 20:56

There was an article recently about doing this and damage to teeth. I think they are great when out and about btw.

Oh for goodness sake. Who gives a fuck. Why do people insist on judging what other.parents do constantly? As long as they're not feeding him lines of coke its none of your business !

Some grown ups occasionally like to leave the house, even if Shock they have babies.

OnlyBaBaBiss · 16/07/2018 20:57

I’ve never known anyone to chew up food then feed it to their child
That is fucking disgusting Envy

FrayedHem · 16/07/2018 20:57

I think you can buy pouches you can fill with your own food/liquidised McDonald's.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 16/07/2018 20:59

I can only imagine the comments on the thread "AIBU or is this disgusting? Some mother was chewing up food and feeding it to her baby! 🤢🤮"

BatShitBuns · 16/07/2018 21:03

Oh get over yourself OP, my sisters and I were raised on organic home-cooked meals and we still love Maccy D's.

Thesearepearls · 16/07/2018 21:07

Just googled food pouches

Fairly predictably they are pretty bad. High in sugar, and a lot of nutrients destroyed in the process of preservation. The pouches are plastic and end up in landfill.

Still, squirt away. In the full knowledge that it’s rubbish for the environment and not great for your kids. Why can’t you take a banana out with you?

TSSDNCOP · 16/07/2018 21:10

Ive thought about it, and I definitely couldn’t accurately gob chewed up food into my baby whilst on the phone.
