Mums who squirt pouches into baby’s mouth

I find this so lazy and gross while out and about, seems to be increasing. Even worse when Mum is gazing into iPhone and not even looking what she’s doing !

🙄 @perfect mother .... or whatever your username is

ChocolateWombat · 16/07/2018 19:26

Haha! To be honest, those pouches are the ultimate convenience food - the whole point is that you don't need a spoon or anything at all.
Aren't they the modern equivalent of jarred baby food, for mums who wouldn't want to be seen gpfeeding their baby jarred food - so there's all this organic blah blah.

I guess in the end, there's always a place for convenience stuff. We might all eat convenience food occasionally and there's a place for it. Probably not great if you live on it or if your baby lives entirely on pouches, but the odd one is fine. I guess it would be better to be eating a home cooked, nutritious meal and for babies to get used to eating what the family have, but when you're out its not always easy.

Must say though, I think it's a shame if you see a baby having its meal and the adult doesn't speak to them or look at them because they are on their phone or tablet the whole time.....in the same way I do t really like it if I se children or adults having a meal out and all on devices with no conversation. To be honest, I think that's worse than feeding them a pouch. It's so easy to be on devices all the time, it probably takes lots of parents a real effort to make meal time or other times into quality interaction time.

I guess we all go for the easy option sometimes. There aren't any points for being a martyr and struggling to make things as hard as possible.....but at the same time, I suppose we have to all think about which things are important to us generally. I'd be keen for mine to eat home cooked food most of the time and I'd definitely be keen for them to have meal time for social interaction so try not to be on the phone, but I'm sure I do other things that some people wouldn't do.

MammaSchwifty · 16/07/2018 19:28

Why is it gross?

And, why is it lazy? Should we all be constantly engaged in busywork in order to keep up appearances? I would say it's efficient, if anything.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 16/07/2018 19:28

Is it equally bad if they are squirting a pouch into their own mouth? What if said pouch is almost frozen, to a delicious slushy texture?

Just curious. No reason.

Cuddlykitten123 · 16/07/2018 19:30

At one point I would have agreed but then I learned the secret... you can squeeze a whole pouch into them before they get bored and distracted. Gotta pick your battles!

SomeKnobend · 16/07/2018 19:31

Woah! Are you telling me that some disgusting, lazy excuses for parents actually take pouches of baby food, and squeeze that food into the mouth of their hungry baby? Fucking outrageous. Someone call social services immediately. YANBU op, this is indeed a fucking heinous problem, and totally your business.

crazychemist · 16/07/2018 19:33

My DD is nearly 2 and has had a whole load of pouches recently - hope you haven't seen me! She's had an upset tummy and only wanted yoghurt pouches, I figured if it was what she wanted when ill she could have it. No added sugar, plenty of liquid and I can add vitamin drops while she's not eating much else.

I assume you mean the neglect aspect is disgusting, rather than the food? If not, YABVU.

Ceecee18 · 16/07/2018 19:34

It's probably a better alternative than them spoon feeding, leading to baby insisting on holding the loaded spoon and chucking the food everywhere, splattering the walls, floor and anyone sitting near by.

The pouches can be handy if you're on the go or eating out and have bought a meal for DC which they've then decided to refuse to eat. This is such a pointless thing to get worked up about.

YorkiepudNgravy · 16/07/2018 19:35

I had to do this last week, I’d forgotten his food that I’d loving made.

Nipped into boots with a screaming child and had squished a good half in before I’d even gotten to the tills.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2018 19:37

What if you’re drinking a glass of wine while squeezing it into their mouth?

PeonyTruffle · 16/07/2018 19:37

Ahhh I have nothing but fond memories of giving DS pouches when we are out and letting him crack on.
So much easier than messing around with spoons and bowls

Thank you Ella's Kitchen Grin

newcupcake · 16/07/2018 19:37

OP has clearly realised the error of their ways and has left the thread to go and buy some pouches 🤣

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/07/2018 19:38

That’s squeezing a pouch into their mouth. Not the wine.

GetToFuck · 16/07/2018 19:39

What if you’re drinking a glass of wine while squeezing it into their mouth?

What if you're squeezing a bag of wine into your mouth while squeezing a pouch into theirs? Grin

Melliegrantfirstlady · 16/07/2018 19:40

Op

AvonCallingBarksdale · 16/07/2018 19:42

OP what if it’s a dad rather than a mum and an Android rather than iPhone? Is that ok?? GrinHmm

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 16/07/2018 19:42

Couldn't care less about the pouch thing. It's going in the baby's mouth anyway. The phone bit is depressing though.

Caterina99 · 16/07/2018 19:43

My 9 month old loves pouches! We went for lunch one day with an elderly relative and she was amazed by the pouch, as she’d never seen one before. Thought it was a fabulous invention.

My 9 month old also loves real food, but sometimes needs must and convenience is the name of the game. My pfb only ate home made food and would’ve turned his nose up at a pouch. I made sure this one would eat them

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 16/07/2018 19:47

Ha. Never used them myself but if you've got time to watch, judge and make a post you need a hobby! Seriously.
Not your monkeys, not your circus.

MonumentVal · 16/07/2018 19:47

A Michelin chef once told me the purple Ella's pouch made an excellent coulis for desserts. He was right! Cut the corner off and drizzle away...

mayandjuniper · 16/07/2018 19:48

I used to do this all the time. The only way I could get vegetables in to my DD. I don't really care whether you don't like it.

OnlyBaBaBiss · 16/07/2018 19:49

I thought that was the whole point of pouches - they were for using out and about with no mess? Confused

SoyDora · 16/07/2018 19:49

That’s an interesting question... would it be ok if it was a dad? Or is it just mums who are subject to judgement on this issue?

lily2403 · 16/07/2018 19:50

I find it ironic that your user name is @nomorewashing
Save the dishwasher filling up with little spoons, use pouches 😂

DailyMailFail101 · 16/07/2018 19:50

Mine sucks a pouch at the breakfast table each morning, so am I only half a lazy parent?
