Yes. A smear. It was the same as with a female nurse.

ShanghaiDiva · 13/07/2018 08:25

Yes.
what's the AIBU?

DownUdderer · 13/07/2018 08:25

I’ve had a smear from a male GP and pelvic exam from male doctor

Suebnm · 13/07/2018 08:25

My last mammogram nurse or whatever they're called was male.

DownUdderer · 13/07/2018 08:26

If you don’t want a male doctor or nurse just speak up and say so.

henpeckedinchief · 13/07/2018 08:26

Not a smear but have had a vaginal ultrasound from a male nurse. Why do you ask?

Chembe · 13/07/2018 08:28

Maybe not quite the same but I've had lots of vaginal examinations by male doctors. Just as unpleasant as with a female Grin

Katedotness1963 · 13/07/2018 08:29

Through infertility treatment most of my doctors were male. I've had smears done my male and female drs/nurses.

MrsJayy · 13/07/2018 08:29

No just because there is no male nurses at my Drs and I am not mammogram screening age yet but I wouldn't bother me why do you ask?

Laiste · 13/07/2018 08:30

Yes, smear. Twice. The doc was the practice manager and a gynecologist.

He was always very cheerful and tried hard to put me at ease. He was quick and efficient - however both times he hit the handle of the speculum and let it spin round on it's own (to remove) while he walked away and i hated that. Bit cavalier. I requested the nurse for future smears after that happening on 2 occasions.

MrsJayy · 13/07/2018 08:30

I have had male Drs down there and it doesn't phase me

Tinywhale · 13/07/2018 08:32

Why?

Babdoc · 13/07/2018 08:32

Have had vaginal exam and smear from male consultant obstetrician who was also my work colleague!
Preferred him to a female tbh - I’m autistic and quite blokey myself, have always liked his dry sense of humour and matter of fact approach.
But I absolutely defend any woman’s right to specify a female doctor or nurse. Especially if said woman has been abused or raped in the past.
I hope this thread is not a set up by TRAs to try and claim it’s ok for trans women to give intimate medical care to actual biological women.

longwayoff · 13/07/2018 08:36

Not a male nurse but male doctors a plenty. In my experience I'd choose a woman for a smear as they tend to be less forceful. Maybe just me though.

pinyata · 13/07/2018 08:36

Yes because I was comfortable to do so.

However my sister had a traumatic birth and now requests female medical professionals for all appointments.

It's all depends on what your comfortable with.

bananafish81 · 13/07/2018 08:36

Male gynaecologist for fertility treatment, tonnes of endometrial biopsies, embryo transfers, saline ultrasounds - he must have spent hours down there cranking me open with a speculum and rummaging around in there.

Male consultant also did a smear and colposcopy

Smears at my GP practice were with nurses, but otherwise have had far more internal diagnostics and treatment from male practitioners

jaseyraex · 13/07/2018 08:37

All my smears have been by a male nurse because he is the nurse at my GP clinic. He's lovely and professional and so it's never something that's bothered me. I've been with the same GP my whole life so have seen the nurse for quite a few things. There's a female nurse in once a week though, I guess to deal with patients who prefer to see another female.

LyndseyKola · 13/07/2018 08:37

Yes, a smear. And gynae exams.

It was fine. No different to a woman doing the procedure.

Where is this going? An anti trans thread because we certainly don’t have enough of those ?

Aria2015 · 13/07/2018 08:38

Smear by a male doctor and all my breast exams and ultrasounds have been a male doctor too. It's always any uncomfortable situation but I didn't feel having a male do either made it worse (for me personally).

LadyLoveYourWhat · 13/07/2018 08:39

I've had a smear from a male doctor, and a male doctor did my colposcopy (plus a couple of female nurses, one of whom held my hand 😊) - I generally prefer it if it's a woman, and would probably ask if there was one free if I was booking and they gave me man.

Wildernessie · 13/07/2018 08:42

Had Smears,Mirena coil fitted, abnormal cells lasered out(plus some student onlookers)..as ive got older chosen women-found it to be a nicer experience(warming the speculum under hot water)&general chit-chat..just my experience tho!

Mulberry72 · 13/07/2018 08:43

I’ve had several mammograms with a male Dr and had a male student midwife assist with DS birth.

It didn’t bother me at all.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 13/07/2018 08:44

Yes and it didn't bother me a jot.
In fact, a male gyne spent nearly an hour down there last week trying to find an AWOL coil. Not pleasant, but then it wouldn't have been pleasant if it was a woman either.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 13/07/2018 08:45

No. I've never come across a male nurse/doctor who had been in the position to be doing this. I wouldn't feel comfortable (well not that it's comfortable anyway).

strawberrisc · 13/07/2018 08:45

I had a feeling I would be in the consensus of BU. We all feel differently about things. I have one such appointment today and I wouldn’t refuse a male because I am SO grateful I live in a country where I have access to such wonderful care. I can’t help the way I feel though. I would feel so awkward. I KNOW I’m sounding daft and I KNOW they see things every day. I just feel so self-conscious.
