I don't like him or agree with his policies, but what good is it going to do walking around with a giant helium balloon of a baby?

Loads of horrible world leaders from the middle East that are doing far far woorse and they get a royal visit over here with no one batting an eyelid. Just smacks of double standards to me.

The protest is nothing more than 1005 virtue signalling and inst/facebook selfies, nothing more.

Someones be reading from the populist bingo cards.

NanaNoodleman · 13/07/2018 13:45

For some people I have no doubt it is superficial. For others it is deeply felt. Personally I deeply regret having him here when he has shown such disrespect to our elected prime minister.
‘‘Twas ever thus. Protests play a role in free democratic societies and that is why the right to protest is generally protected. If you can’t deal with that, you’re the fucking snowflake here.

topcat1980 · 13/07/2018 13:50

When ever right wingers want to say what they want, they get to say what they want whilst claiming that they are being silenced.

Then they seek to silence everyone else.

Hypocritical twits.

lljkk · 13/07/2018 13:57

"Virtue signalling" WTF is that talking about? Do folk really think DT doesn't provoke sincere responses? There is so much to be sincerely offended by. Confused

"Shouldn't protest against DT if you didn't protest against other bastard leaders": I didn't know someone kept a scorecard with indisputable recommendations how to allocate one's protest hours. Link, please?

"Mustn't offend our American friends" DT is a Frenemy if ever there was.

DT constantly tells us that he has no respect for American traditions, laws and institutions or any Americans who disagree with him; last thing these protests are is anti-American.

Setpeace · 13/07/2018 14:01

She is especially fond of a Mussolini quote about “plucking a chicken feather by feather” so that people will not notice the loss of their freedoms until it is too late

Oh a tactic used by the EU then in their stealth ever closer union project, until people woke up and said - what the hell is going on.
But by then we are so far out into the sea on the EU cruiseliner we cannot jump ship Confused

You know the reason Gisella Stuart decided to run for the leave campaign was because working on an EU project for Blair she realised it was like the totalitarian state she knew of as a child in west german and across the SU.

maxthemartian · 13/07/2018 14:03

Setpeace are you lost? This is a thread about the Trump protests.
Interesting conflation though.

topcat1980 · 13/07/2018 14:04

"oh a tactic used by the EU then in their stealth ever closer union project, until people woke up and said - what the hell is going on. "

Do you have an example of this? Or is it more rhetoric hyperbole?

Gisella Stuart is not a good person to hold up as an example, she uses the same empty rhetoric you do.

Setpeace · 13/07/2018 14:07

Evidence for what sorry?
The partnership and ties we have to the EU are vastly different to those that were voted in back in the 70's. It has mutated and changed - feather by feather seemingly...obviously a tactic who knew. Confused

Its absolutely obvious.

topcat1980 · 13/07/2018 14:11

Evidence that the EU has been removing people's freedoms? You know like your quote stated.

The EU has changed, but it has been led by the democratically elected governments of each country. The idea that this is some kind of nefarious tactic to march people unwittingly along the road to some kind of superstate is ridiculous and you need evidence to back up that assertion.

Otherwise, you just get dismissed as a fantasist.

topcat1980 · 13/07/2018 14:12

Apparently the Sun story is fake news now.

Hahahah pathetic wanker.

SomeAreMoreEqualThanOthers · 13/07/2018 14:55

Setpeace

Just watching the Wright stuff and someone on the panel has just said re kahn...

Quiet over satire at Charlie hebdo, the murder but happy with trump.

If we want satire and the right to poke fun as wright stuff man said...

It's got to be allowed on every subject.

Great point. Where are/were the calls defending Charlie Hebdos right to protest through satire?

topcat1980 · 13/07/2018 15:15

there were plenty.

Do you remember the "Je suis Charlie" badges? That's what that was that was about.

longwayoff · 13/07/2018 15:29

I definitely mentioned a requirement for intelligence earlier. Its not only required for an understanding of satire but also for comprehension of current events. So trump lovers its not sufficient to stand on the sidelines shouting "Well what about something untrue and completely errroneous then?" You need to be precise. You need to be correct. You need to say something relevant. Otherwise we just continue to laugh at you.

Didn't see in the press any marches against Erdogan, who is arguably worse.

There were.

Usual idiots dishing out whataboutisms.

Justanotherlurker · 13/07/2018 16:48

Usual idiots dishing out whataboutisms.

Oh yeah, look at the numbers compared to todays anti-Trump /Anti Brexit/Save our NHS/OUst the Tories demo.

www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/antierdogan-protesters-march-on-downing-street-as-the-queen-meets-turkish-president-a3839821.html

We could find a small handful for the Suadi protest also.

It's the useful idiots who are there for their selfies today who like to pick and chose who to be outraged by on echo chambers and number of retweets.

The useful idiots are on both side shouting obscenities at each other while the rest of the us/the world just sits back and chuckles.

Still at least the weather is nice, and that 30K has been well spent on the baloon.

"Mustn't offend our friends" as if DT acts like any sort of friend.

DT constantly tells us that he has no respect for American traditions or institutions; last thing these protests are is anti-American.

lljkk · 13/07/2018 17:02

oops... sorry, double post

Velvete · 13/07/2018 17:08

OP YANBU.

Many worse world leaders come here and no one bats an eyelid. However let the protesters get on with it, it won't affect anything.

longwayoff · 13/07/2018 17:22

Tosh velvete. Tosh lurker. Tosh moreequal. Still laughing.

PerkingFaintly · 13/07/2018 17:36

I took some screenshots of the chat box next to a Canadian news channel's live footage of the Trump Baby.

New comments were being added very fast, mostly by the same commenters. As you can see, the top comment, by Evolution2k007 is "SOMEONE RUN THEM OVER PLEASE"

Many of the comments are anti-semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-"Lefty". Those commenters claim to be pro-Trump and reference the alt-right Pepe the Frog. They stayed on the YouTube channel, pumping out their comments, for some time.

To think the anti trump marches are a waste of time

PerkingFaintly · 13/07/2018 17:38

My Qs are:

  1. Who are the commenters? Are they alt-right, Russian trolls, someone else (who?)

  2. What are they trying to achieve here?

Is this Russia using a social media campaign to diss protesters against Trump? If so, why? If you're a genuine Trump supporter on MN, how do you feel about such manipulation by Russia?

Is this alt-right Trump supporters spending their days spamming social media with how they want "lefties" to be raped and "lefty" children to be killed?

What are they trying to achieve?

To think the anti trump marches are a waste of time
PineappleSunrise · 13/07/2018 17:57

They are trying to make out that "ordinary" people are against democratic processes and most of all they are trying to silence anyone who protests.

longwayoff · 13/07/2018 20:31

Its a clear disinformation campaign and is organised and automated as can be seen by the frequent repetition of key phrases, which then fan out and funnel down to supporters. Probably Russia based and funded. Trump to front the US, others across the EU where the right is rising. The more discontent it can fuel the more internal discord is stirred with the useful refugee crisis providing convenient scapegoats. I think the rapid success of recreating 1930s practices has been a surprise. Splitting the EU is the aim with Russia reclaiming the lost territories of Eastern Europe it regards as its property. Rich pickings across the rest.. Divide and conquer. Worked for Rome.

NanaNoodleman · 13/07/2018 21:00

As someone who actually has quite a lot of American friends I can tell you that none are upset about this. God almighty look at how spitting image laid into thatcher. Was she bothered? Not one bit. All part of the game.
