To think the anti trump marches are a waste of time

I don't like him or agree with his policies, but what good is it going to do walking around with a giant helium balloon of a baby?

Loads of horrible world leaders from the middle East that are doing far far woorse and they get a royal visit over here with no one batting an eyelid. Just smacks of double standards to me.

Just watching the Wright stuff and someone on the panel has just said re kahn...

Quiet over satire at Charlie hebdo, the murder but happy with trump.

If we want satire and the right to poke fun as wright stuff man said...

It's got to be allowed on every subject.

commonarewe · 13/07/2018 10:11

Somehow Trump managed to visit Macron and Merkel in their countries without their far left making a spectacle of themselves. Why exactly can't Britain comport itself with the same dignity?

JarlBalgruuf · 13/07/2018 10:15

The blimp is deeply childish

To be fair, Trump probably wouldn't understand it if it wasn't childish. The makers know their audience.

Mqriejonea · 13/07/2018 10:21

I can't see a blimp of Mohamed being allowed by him.

Agree SK looks undignified and petty.

I just hope someone pops and ends the blimp.

Why are people who find the blimp silly and trump not as bad as the other dictators that we have hosted called trump supporters?! I haven't seen anyone say they support trump here.

The far left is no better than the far right.

maxthemartian · 13/07/2018 10:22

Setpeace Sadiq Khan was not yet mayor of London when the Charlie Hebdo attack happened so I'm not seeing the point of that comment.
Also which satire does he specifically not allow? I'm curious.

commonarewe it's not the far left. You don't need to be "far left" to have grave concerns about Trump.

Do none of you supporters of the man have any concerns whatsoever about him turning up here and making highly inappropriate comments about who should or shouldn't be Prime Minister, and our Brexit strategy? I mean, honestly you're okay with this because hey, at least it shows those lefties? That's the mentality now?

commonarewe · 13/07/2018 10:28

I think that some of what Trump does is exactly right and salutary, but most is unfortunately marred by either stupidity or corruption.

I find the blimp a petulant lefty outburst that they would never tolerate against one of their favoured politicians or ideologies.

Both of these positions can be comfortably held at the same time without contradiction.

Forfolkssake · 13/07/2018 10:29

CalishataFolkart

Yes. Exactly.

LadyWithLapdog · 13/07/2018 10:32

I'm not a far leftie and neither are my friends who are going to the protests. So try something else.

Why are you taking a pop at SK? He didn't organise the protests. In fact he's been very dignified and restrained despite the pettish, bullying stupid Trumpist rants.

Of course you are supporters of Trump if you ... support him. He's vile and so are those who lick his bum.

LadyWithLapdog · 13/07/2018 10:35

You simply don't know what "lefties" would "tolerate" or not. You are all just annoyed that the big nappy Trump balloon is a novel idea and it's grabbing the headlines. Job done!

maxthemartian · 13/07/2018 10:36

I find the blimp a petulant lefty outburst that they would never tolerate against one of their favoured politicians or ideologies.

The fact that there's a blimp of Sadiq Khan rather undermines that.

Not a fan of democracy/freedom of speech/expression?

yy558 · 13/07/2018 10:36

@ladywithlapdog i agree that DT is utterly disgusting and everything he stands for. What do you do, out of interest? Just because I'm curious as to how people find the time to go (between work and home errands, I'm exhausted) Are you voluntarily taking a day off from work?

bobstersmum · 13/07/2018 10:37

Saw on the telly this morning, the giant inflatable along with a board saying Trump is a cunt. I think it's childish and disrespectful at the very least. Not sure how it's been allowed to go on. I am not a Trump supporter by the way!

maxthemartian · 13/07/2018 10:39

bobster would you care to comment on the level of respect that Trump has shown our PM by declaring that Boris Johnson would do a better job?
Or the level of respect he just showed at the Nato summit.
Or the level of respect towards women? Or people with disabilities?
Fuck showing respect to him. Seriously. He is a cunt.

commonarewe · 13/07/2018 10:44

My point is that the left in France and Germany chose not to make a childish spectacle of themselves, whereas ours did. It speaks to their lack of maturity.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 13/07/2018 10:48

I'm told the UK is sovereign nation so it should not necessarily be following the examples of other nations. It does its own thing. Trump isn't exactly know for this maturity. The balloon is a caricature, I'm not sure why people are so upset by it.

NanaNoodleman · 13/07/2018 10:49

The blimp is arguably squarely within the centuries old tradition of English political satire. Political cartoons of the 18th century make the blimp-creators look like models of restraint.
As others have pointed out, if it were more subtle, he wouldn’t understand.

BarbarianMum · 13/07/2018 10:52

Oh do give over with this "left" thing. The distaste for Donald Trump is a pretty unifying force across the political spectrum, far right excepted.

maxthemartian · 13/07/2018 10:55

Watching the live footage now. Some pro-Trumpers have turned up, and are doing enthusiastic chants for Tommy Robinson, while making arm movements that look suspiciously like Nazi salutes.
Nice bunch, Trump supporters....

commonarewe · 13/07/2018 10:56

The distaste for lefty virtue-signalling is an even more unifying force across the political spectrum these days! Grin

derxa · 13/07/2018 10:57

Oh do give over with this "left" thing. The distaste for Donald Trump is a pretty unifying force across the political spectrum, far right excepted.
The balloon is a step too far. I'm not far right. I voted Remain etc. etc.
However this childish display makes me ashamed.

Anniegetyourgun · 13/07/2018 10:57

Do we have to be "mature"? What's wrong with being a bit childish? Dignity is overrated IMO.

Btw have we all noticed recently a tendency for many Trump, er, not supporters of course, defenders? to start with assuring us that they don't like him, of course, but... Seems to be a bit of a theme.

Anniegetyourgun · 13/07/2018 10:57

to start by... oh, my grammar's all to pot.

OK this was posted so far back I forgot the name of the poster, but can I just echo what they said:

*Trump is displaying behaviour used by fascists and the fascist movement.

Marching is an expression against facism.

America sets itself up as the leader of the free world. Facism is not freedom.

Marching may make no difference but neither will not marching.*

I am a dual US/UK citizen (yes, I have ruined the purity of your nation by my presence as a tax-paying immigrant, my apologies) so I feel a certain patriotic duty to protest. I think it is very, very naive to turn a blind eye at this point to the tactics used by Trump, his supporters, and the various individuals clinging onto his coattails.

Collaborating with fascists didn't go so well before. Of course there are other problematic leaders and regimes in the world right now. That doesn't mean we have to condone this one.
