So:
The government is about to begin stockpiling processed food in case the country is plunged into chaos by a “no deal” Brexit.
In just over half a year the UK is going to be wrecked for decades to come. We're looking at rationing, for God's sake. Power cuts. Mass unemployment. The loss of our employment and human rights. The new Health Secretary has allegedly received 10s of 1000s from the head of a thinktank that wants to abolish the NHS. There is no plan for the future. Not even the most ardent of the Brexiter politicians that got us into this mess are pretending that we aren't looking at massive economic and social problems.
Isn't it time for us as ordinary citizens who, with our children, will pay for this fiasco to start demonstrating, meeting our MPs, doing anything else that might possibly help to stop this? I don't just mean the demonstration that took place in London, and the others around the country - I mean serious numbers of people, making their voices heard. Because we will all suffer the very serious consequences of this mess.

And @woman11017 , my plan for "action" if someone wants to come and take our stuff is to run away. I can't fight some twat. I hope it never comes to that. I doubt it will. But I have a plan just in case. Not a nice one. Not a future I wish to envisage.

woman11017 · 14/07/2018 17:47

Not a nice one. Not a future I wish to envisage
I know. Sad

Topseyt · 14/07/2018 17:50

I have found it hard to get past the first page here after seeing that anyone could consider The Sun to be a serious newspaper. Grin

Still skimming the rest.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 14/07/2018 17:52

this is all happening because of the Leave vote
If may did what any other decent person would have done and tried to work with other parties for a solution, rather than try to prove people would actually elect her, this whole mess would be a lot better, a lot more people would feel they were in more capable hands and while not everyone would be happy it would at least come across like the government was seriously working towards something that would benefit the country.

She made exactly the same mistake Cameron did, and just like him her plan backfired.

Resulting in a fucking mess where parliament are imploding and no one is satisfied or trusting.

Agustarella · 14/07/2018 17:52

Are there any prepper support groups/networks for the poor and homeless...?

Yes, it's called "joining the army". :)

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 14/07/2018 17:55

Actually most probably couldn't join the army due to health issues.

woman11017 · 14/07/2018 17:57

Yes, it's called "joining the army
Our brave underfunded military have been unable to save the hundreds of pre brexit deaths from homelessness and poverty, I doubt they'll be able to do much when the food/medicine lorries, power and planes stop.

bellinisurge · 14/07/2018 17:57

For anyone in poverty thinking about preps, look at Prepper Princess on YouTube (if you have access). She's all about low budget prepping. Admittedly she's in the US but she has a lot of useful info and ideas.
Unsurprisingly it is usually the female Prepper channels on YouTube that make most sense.
DawnsTomorrow is another interesting one - AfricanAmerican Woman in a small budget

Agustarella · 14/07/2018 17:57

Then they are buggered.

Actually, there are more informal militias they can join, like the one on display in central London today.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 14/07/2018 18:00

That's because all the male ones go on about is Guns.

"with the right spices and enough sawdust this semi-automatic shotgun can be boiled down into a nice soup"

Agustarella · 14/07/2018 18:14

That's because poverty relief isn't the army's job, except insofar as the "economic draft" takes some people out of poverty. In fact, as the Welfare State is phased out, poverty relief isn't really anybody's job, and that's a problem.

Britain apparently has about 80,000 troops (just did a quick google) and I assume they are mostly stationed overseas. If they were brought back after Brexit (military planes aren't affected by Open Skies IIRC) I imagine they would be patrolling town centres and guarding important facilities, like maybe supermarket depots or whatever. I hope the government's rumoured stockpiling and rationing plans are existent and will be operational in time, but the emphasis will be on maintaining order rather than relieving existing destitution. In fact from a Tory viewpoint it's arguably a waste of resources to spend money feeding people who will starve to death peacefully rather than rising up. At least that's my interpretation of the government's reaction (or lack thereof) to the deaths from destitution that have already happened.

Grin I can't cook, but would have a go at that one.

There will be posh brexit with its own security and the rest of us. Like now, but with no food or medicine.

You will not persuade anyone who voted for Brexit that it is going to be anything other than marvellous. They all voted for £350 million a week for the NHS, having cake and and eating it and getting their country back. Anything else is just project fear. They were turkeys voting for Christmas. Brexit hasn’t actually happened yet, but I suspect when it does and if we crash out the penny will finally start to drop. Jacob Rees Mogg and his ilk are already making provision, but even this isn’t enough to persuade most Brexiteers that everything in the garden isn’t going to be as rosy as they have been led to believe. If watching Theresa May toadying up to Donald Trump in the hope that he will give us a break didn’t make people realise how desperate the situation is then you have no hope.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 14/07/2018 18:28

You will not persuade anyone who voted for Brexit that it is going to be anything other than marvellous.

What about all those people who voted that are now apparently telling their Mumsnetting friends that it was a mistake?
You know the ones, they are friends of people who pop up on the "We need another vote, it will get a different out come" threads.

Agustarella · 14/07/2018 18:39

@Woman11017 Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that. I'm sure there will be a huge privatization bonanza after Brexit, not that there hasn't been before. And then lots of (possibly dangerous) work for private security guards. Not to mention bailiffs, auctioneers and undertakers. Well, least some industries will be booming!

Lweji · 14/07/2018 18:40

That's because all the male ones go on about is Guns.

They will run out of bullets. Then there's Krav Maga.
That's what a good prepper should be doing.

LillianGish · 14/07/2018 18:50

I’m not sure we would necessarily get a different result - I think the majority of people who voted leave were either very rich or too stupid to appreciate the implications. Only when the chickens actually come home to roost and they actually start to suffer - when jobs are lost and prices rise and they look round and realise that Britain has reverted to being the sick man of Europe will they wonder if they might have perhaps have made a mistake, except no doubt they’ll be persuaded to blame their woes on non-eu immigration (which of course remains unaffected by Brexit) or some ot her scapegoat instead.

bellinisurge · 14/07/2018 18:54

Try Praxis Prepper on Youtube. Yes, he has a gun but he also has good production values and a sense of comedy. Single father with two kids. Funny chap.

woman11017 · 14/07/2018 19:25

Just had a look Bellinisurge and his 'joke' cartoon about anally raping a woman was a bit of a give away. And he has a gun? No thanks.

bellinisurge · 14/07/2018 19:30

Well, not sure what you are looking at. If you mean the cartoon lap dance that appears in his opening titles, not sure that constitutes anal rape.

woman11017 · 14/07/2018 19:51

bellini Don't know what MN guidlines are on this, but at 1.19.
Rapey crackers with guns.
Call me old fashioned but I'd rather be in the EU

bellinisurge · 14/07/2018 19:58

@woman11017 . I would also rather be in the EU and voted accordingly. But people asked me for handy budget friendly resources and I gave examples.
If you think Praxis Prepper is scary misogyny, don't bother with him. And certainly don't bother with any other male Prepper channel because they are proper scary shit.
The point is, we are stuck with this stupid vote which I and I'm guessing you didn't want. If it goes to food shortages and power outs and all that stuff, it's the sad truth that being right about Brexit won't help you.
Get some food in, get some water in. Think about light and keeping warm without central heating/lighting etc. Don't go crazy. Look at more sustainable options on this for you and your household.
Hopefully, we won't need it.

bellinisurge · 14/07/2018 20:03

And at 1:19, he is making a joke out of lap dancing. I checked to see. It's a joke. It really is. I'm sorry if you found it threatening or triggering. It wasn't supposed to be.

woman11017 · 14/07/2018 20:11

I'm not scared. bellini he's just a cracker dick. Most of us know them well. Seems an odd recommendation on a women's forum though.
