To wonder why we aren't rioting in the streets?

So:
The government is about to begin stockpiling processed food in case the country is plunged into chaos by a “no deal” Brexit.
In just over half a year the UK is going to be wrecked for decades to come. We're looking at rationing, for God's sake. Power cuts. Mass unemployment. The loss of our employment and human rights. The new Health Secretary has allegedly received 10s of 1000s from the head of a thinktank that wants to abolish the NHS. There is no plan for the future. Not even the most ardent of the Brexiter politicians that got us into this mess are pretending that we aren't looking at massive economic and social problems.
Isn't it time for us as ordinary citizens who, with our children, will pay for this fiasco to start demonstrating, meeting our MPs, doing anything else that might possibly help to stop this? I don't just mean the demonstration that took place in London, and the others around the country - I mean serious numbers of people, making their voices heard. Because we will all suffer the very serious consequences of this mess.

I thought this was going to be about the World Cup too Apple

mysocksmakemeitchy · 11/07/2018 22:52

Could do with a bit of rationing. It might help in beating the obesity crisis.

cardibach · 11/07/2018 22:52

Salty you won’t believe the sky is falling until it breaks your skull. All evidence form the government, never mind the media, suggests that it’s going to be a disaster. There are no senarios in which it is as good as what we had, never mind better. The government have no idea what to do.
Where are you getting your optimism?

MissusGeneHunt · 11/07/2018 22:53

Thank you argumentative, appreciate that. It appears that this isn't dissimilar to any business continuity plan, or 'emergency' plan. I see that it's for an almost 'overnight withdrawal', presumably with all other assessments taken into account. Well, as long as every eventuality IS being prepared for, that's the moral thing to do. I'm sure there's a plan for any number of combinations of events re Brexit, or I hope there is. doesn't help when the S*N paint it as a Mad Max panic scenario though....

Now where's that can of spaghetti hoops....

Danniz · 11/07/2018 22:54

This is way too important to be hidden away on a Brexit thread that most people don't read. It's going to affect all of us. And for nearly all of us, it will make our lives much much worse.

OP posts:
ConstantlyCold · 11/07/2018 22:55

What would these masses of people be saying? If it's not to leave I think you'd find more people saying they must

Lord only knows what the masses would say. Brexit is a monumental fuck up, life is clearly going to be much worse post Brexit.

But I have a horrible feeling you are right and people will once again vote to punch themselves in the face.

argumentativefeminist · 11/07/2018 22:56

Totally agree with you Missus - it's an important story, and a rightly slightly scary one, but the 🌞 make everything out to be "physically the end of days, hooded youths are attacking pensioners for tinned meats" etc etc. It's most likely going to be messy and painful no matter how it happens, but there's no help to be had from panicking.

PickAChew · 11/07/2018 22:56

Does the government really buy food for us?

Probably just a stash of finest sicilian sardines for Larry.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 22:56

I see that you're a first time poster, Salty.

People that care about Brexit will read the specific thread. It'll still come up on Active if there's enough interest, which is obviously the stage one test for the planned massive protests. People who don't care, won't read it once they realise what it's about.

Absolutely can't stand threads being in the wrong places!

Danniz · 11/07/2018 22:58

People need to realise how bad it will be. How many people voted for their lives to be fucked up, and their children's lives?

MissusGeneHunt · 11/07/2018 22:58

To be honest OP, whilst I like your fervour and passion, WHO will now listen, and in what format? I'm a cynic, I'll grant you, but if you come up with ideas to get this rolling and for some those in power to actively listen, many would join you, bugger all else has worked....

lljkk · 11/07/2018 22:59

Oh well, most of us are too fat anyway.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 22:59

People don't care about Brexit because they don't know what it now means. Might be a good idea to tell them before the shit hits the fan?

OP posts:
HollowTalk · 11/07/2018 23:00

I don't know how they're going to stockpile food when in my local supermarket there's only tinned food with a shelflife of longer than three or four days!

HollowTalk · 11/07/2018 23:01

I agree with your sentiments, though. This country is being fucked and we're told that the ill-informed public want it.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 23:01

If we all publicise this as much as we can - online, with acquaintances, colleagues, person standing next to us in the bus queue. If we all get on to our MPs. It's something. The politicians are laughing at us - they see us as a passive lump who can be completely disregarded.

I care about brexit the sooner and harder the better.

NoSuchThingAsAlpha · 11/07/2018 23:03

OP, I'm afraid most Remainers are not the sort of people to riot. Too reasonable and rational.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 23:04

Why aren't crowds of people standing outside Boris Johnson's home, with banners and megaphones, making it clear that he will never get the prime minister job that he's wrecked the country for?

OP posts:

Someone's been at their parents whisky ...

blackbirdbluebottle · 11/07/2018 23:06

Stop trying to get the country to riot. We are more civilised than to riot every time something like this happens, we have had much worse and come back from it. We didn’t riot (not that I know of) massively in the world wars, we came together and won. If we can overcome that we can overcome a turbulent period

Plimmy · 11/07/2018 23:07

Possibly the silliest thread of the year so
