To post on trans issues in the Feminist Chat forum?

DadJoke · 11/07/2018 11:50

I've been posting a lot on trans issues over in feminist chat. I am keenly aware that it's primarily a women's forum, for women to discuss issues pertaining to their needs. I also know that the presence of men in women's spaces can undermine useful discussions and become "all about the men"

When I say women, I include transwomen. I know many of you don't, but that's not at all what this AIBU is about.

So, am I making a useful contribution to the debate, or undermining it?

It always amazes me the number of people who protest they don't like MN and yet still keep coming back to complain. Why don't they go elsewhere and find a place they do like, which would be the normal response?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

TypicallyNorthern · 11/07/2018 19:00

I haven't read any of your posts nor do I intend to. Men are welcome here apparently and I don't necessarily have a problem with that. However, personally I come on here to get the opinions of a woman. If I wanted the opinion of a man I'd go and ask one of the 9 close male relatives I have or I'd go on Reddit.

From my own experience I don't think men have anything constructive to add to the trans debate because it doesn't affect them directly and so they don't have a problem with it and often even encourage the debate against women as it is another way to put women back in their box. Its like me putting my views forward about gay men. I am not one and their issues do not affect me and so I am unqualified to comment.

Nappa · 11/07/2018 19:03

Morbid question OP? If someone attacked you or someone you loved and they found DNA and were looking for a man... because that was what the DNA established, but that person was living as a woman with an altered birth certificate etc, how the hell would that person get caught (providing they haven’t been caught after comitting any previous crimes?).

womanformallyknownaswoman · 11/07/2018 19:05

NoNo

I’ve had the start of a miscarriage in a public toilet. Thank god it was sex segregated at the time x

Flowers So sorry. Flowers

Shouldn’t have to fight for the right to a secure and private place, the men have one, why can’t we?

So agree. Feminism is about females to so I'm not sure really what males can add to it. Probably not a lot unless they are genuinely supportive.

@NoNotheresnolyrics so sorry to hear that. Thanks

Italiangreyhound · 11/07/2018 19:09

too not to...

Rebooting · 11/07/2018 19:40

What men like the OP do is waste the time and energy of women.

Has everyone looked at the public consultation re GRA reforms?

Rebooting · 11/07/2018 19:42

[[https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/reform-of-the-gender-recognition-act-2004 It’s here - have your say]]

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/07/2018 20:31

DadJoke, I asked earlier but you might have missed it, this thread is moving so fast. Or I might have missed your answer. Blush

What RL professional or personal experience do you have with transgender people?

Rebooting · 11/07/2018 20:33

Dione

He is a man. Who demands to know how useful he is to feminists.

He needs no other qualifications.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/07/2018 20:48

Ah now Rebooting to be fair the OP said -

I am relatively well versed in the issues, but I am not qualified. Which is nice Grin.

NotMeOhNo · 11/07/2018 22:08

If you suspect that your lack of attraction to transwomen is "ingrained transphobia", do you therefore also see a lesbians' choice to reject transwomen as sexual partners as "ingrained transphobia" too?

If not, why not?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 12/07/2018 01:27

DadJoke you have got yourself in a right old pickle surely?

I would pity you if you weren't such an arse.

Your predicament is hilarious though.

Aus84 · 12/07/2018 02:20

“BeyondRadicalisationPortal When you say you "like vulvas" how do you describe the group of people that vulvas are generally attached to?”

“Female people.”

Or transmen. Would you have sex with a transman?

NotMeOhNo · 12/07/2018 03:35

No Aus, he said before: he wouldn't sleep with a transman because they're men.
So he's not going to fuck ANY trans people.

So convenient! Still happy to boss women around.

NotMeOhNo · 12/07/2018 03:37

Also jokedad have you popped over to a trans forum to chide them for their more extremist elements? If not, why not?

Ask them why they think ladybrain qualifies transwomen to participate in women's sports. Go on! Come back here to your personal thread of glory afterwards and let us know how you went.

SimonBridges · 12/07/2018 07:30

So a man wants to know if telling women what a woman is and that they are being women wrong is annoying to women?

Pratchet · 12/07/2018 07:32

And seems to be surprised and offended by the answer

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 12/07/2018 08:31

Jokedad has been very erasing towards non-binary identities in this thread... :(

JacquesHammer · 12/07/2018 08:34

@SimonBridges

I rather think he was hoping we’d duly trot off with our lady brains and see the wisdom imparted to us by a man.

Rebooting · 12/07/2018 08:37

Beyond

Joke has said he only considers vulva owners who strictly conform to gender norms as potential sexual partners.

He at least as transphobic as the lesbians who protested about their erasure at Pride.

Perhaps he should go on Twitter and have TAs crucify him and (incompetently) try and doxx him for the next few days?

Germ1360 · 12/07/2018 10:06

So, dadjoke is straight but only likes women with vulvas. But transwomen are women and sex is socially constructed....

How do we make this work out...?

So there are women, divided into two types: those who dadjoke would arbitrarily potentially shag, and those who dadjoke would arbitrarily not potentially shag.

Do I win?

What do I win?!

Do I get respect from dadjoke and permission to have opinions without him telling me I'm wrong?

Pompoko · 12/07/2018 10:18

Who else has noticed that the op clearly priorities men. It’s always trans women THEN non trans women with him. We have become second class in our own gender Angry

Ereshkigal · 12/07/2018 10:19

Men like Joke never grasp how offensive this is to women. It doesn't affect them as no one makes men a sub category.
