Because I have no idea how they would do that.

But that wasn't the question they were asked was it , it didn't take into account any of the varieties of leave or remain voter, it did not ask 'do you want more money for the NHS?' What people interpreted the question as is irrelevant , what the question actually asked is.

jasjas1973 · 13/07/2018 20:33

Its arrogant to suggest we can suppose we know what leavers voted for! all we know is that continued membership of the EU was rejected.

There is still an overwhelming desire to leave the EU, some 43% are still happy with the direction of travel the UK Gov is taking, with only 13% wanting to remain in.
so give the "people" what they want, personally, i dont care if people lose their jobs or cannot buy as much food or fly, its what they wanted and still want.

GameOfMinges · 13/07/2018 20:34

Indeed. There was no option to say Remain, but I'm really against including any more member states, or Leave but only Hard Leave and if we can't have that we might as well stay in, or Leave and join the EFTA instead, or Remain because I love everything about the EU, or Leave because that automatically means Hard Brexit. Nobody's vote said any of these things, regardless of whether they or anyone else think it did.

jasjas for info what's your source for those numbers? Ta.

I’m a remainer with concerns for the EU father of my dc. I feel trapped here now (in a Europe sense). Thankfully DS will get an EU passport.

It’s nasty, confusing and I cannot make head nor tail of where we’re at. It’s a long standing Tory feud coming to a head with others joining.

I don’t see a way out of it so I just wish they’d get on with this car crash so we, in the UK, can see the long road ahead. Also for EU citizens as there’s no clarity now and once we leave I’d hope they’d see better the road ahead here and what they might need to do if they want to stay.

GameOfMinges · 13/07/2018 20:46

There's a bit of clarity, to be fair. Took them long enough but HO have now given some idea what will happen.

Heaven forbid anyone have actually thought about this before the referendum so people weren't in avoidable limbo for over 18 months, of course.

I think we can safely say that since the ref was announced in Feb 2016, thinking hasn't been a strong point in the British Psyche.

By that I do include both sides because the Remain campaign spent precious little time on things like the effect on EU nationals and the EU border. Instead it let Leave set the agenda whilst laughing at it. Nor did it really sell the EU.

And no one gave a thought about what would happen if God forbid they lost.

It amazes me that even now we have government MPs freely and openly without shame state they've never read the Good Friday Agreement and MPs of all stripes repeatedly demonstrate they have not got a clue what the single market is (and isn't), what the customs union is and what countries in the EEA can and can't do.

You even have MPs refering to 'Southern Ireland' or talking like the UK still has control of Dublin.

It's beyond bonkers and utterly shameful.

To me, it's one thing to have an opinion as a member of the electorate - that's fair enough. But if it's your actual job to sort out Brexit, not being an ignorant tosser should really be a job requirement. Sadly not so. Nor is there any effort to try and understand the nature of the problem at hand.

Why anyone, regardless of their remain or leave status should have any faith in the shower of shit that works at Westminster is beyond me.

Calling many of them lazy and ignorant is being charitable.

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/07/2018 21:17

And the problem with the remain campaign was it was largely run by the government who chose not to admit that they were the cause of many issues and not the EU.

Oakmaiden · 15/07/2018 13:06

Well, I care.

bellinisurge · 15/07/2018 13:11

@Oakmaiden - I used to care. Don't care as much now because so many turkeys voted for Christmas. And to take my DD's rights off her.

You are so so right

The longer this farce goes on, the more the companies with European bases or those that trade (goods or services) with the EU will either pack up and go or wither and die. The chances of serious inward investment into the UK dwindles by the day.
A while back I was suggesting on MN that the 3 part series about the possibility of leaving the EU presented by Jeremy Paxman BEFORE the vote was a well researched programme and with not much further thought required showed WHY so many of the wild claims being made in the run up to the vote could not be true. It would be interesting to see a re run and see what has happened in the intervening 2 years. The lies told then by the campaigners are STILL being told now, and the EU does not have to change it's stance at all.
The 'sunny uplands' are the present good weather (and you complain about it being too hot) but a 'winter of discontent' is on the way.
Welcome back to the '70's.

If you are fed up now fast forward 20 years.
This is going to go on for decades.
