To hope they lose

Last Saturday my town centre was awash with ambulances frequently after they won that game. Quite frankly I do hope they lose as many of the fans are just wasting NHS resources and a slow Salk home would be far better than hours of celebrating drinking and all the violence that would ensue.

Other sports just don't get the same behaviour at all

Think you've made a bit of stretch from a fairly commonly used phrase

SlartiAardvark · 11/07/2018 11:21

Mummyschnauzer who is haranguing you?

No one, she's just sulking because only 3 people in the UK watch Horse jumping..... Grin

RickOShay · 11/07/2018 11:25

Well I really really hope they win.
Gareth for prime minister Grin

PsychoPumpkin · 11/07/2018 11:29

I usually hate football but even i’ve Found myself getting excited. YABU OP, if you’re English & hoping England lose.

The idiots will idiot whether England win or lose. I’d rather there be happy chaos than angry chaos.

BasilFaulty · 11/07/2018 11:30

I'm a police officer, all our annual leave has been cancelled, 50% on my force have had their rest days canceled so will now be working this weekend when they had plans with family, there were 106 jobs in the queue yesterday and I didn't eat lunch for 9 hours straight.........

And I still say YABU!!! Football Football

ilovesooty · 11/07/2018 11:31

I want them to win but even more so when I see yet another stupid vacuous thread like this.

Seasawride · 11/07/2018 11:34

BasilFaulty

Flowers thanks for all you do.

knittingdad · 11/07/2018 11:34

There will be at least 20 million people watching the match, hoping for an England win and, at most a few hundred idiots causing trouble.

Why seek to punish the large group of people for the crimes of the few?

BasilFaulty · 11/07/2018 11:36

seasawride Thank you! You're more than welcome Flowers

daffodillament · 11/07/2018 11:36

Stop being so miserable and get into the spirit ! Yes, there will be arseholes but there always will be arseholes draining the NHS simply because it's happy hour 12 hours more like on a Saturday night and we live in a binge drinking is their thing !

daffodillament · 11/07/2018 11:38

sorry for non sensical post there at the end.. meant to say that binge drinking is their thing !

Mummyschnauzer · 11/07/2018 11:38

Soy - work are. We had a lovely team meal tonight planned, which we are all expected to attend now switched to a room with big screens and half time buffet. Still expected to give up my evening to attend! So yes I am pissed off with being forced to watch it!

purplelass · 11/07/2018 11:42

Wouldn't it be a whole lot more constructive and less goady to hope that England win tonight and everyone is lovely to each other?

It's coming home Football - come on boys! Smile

SoyDora · 11/07/2018 11:47

I understand that’s irritating, but I imagine that decision has been made because more people want to watch it than don’t want to watch it.

Seasawride · 11/07/2018 11:48

There’s a proper England supporting thread people.

ilovesooty · 11/07/2018 11:49

I'm sure the football fans would have been pissed off at being forced to attend a team dinner whereby they weren't able to see the match.
How were the changes decided on? Is there a requirement to attend or simply an expectation? Is it part of your working hours?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/07/2018 11:53

But people who don’t like it shouldn’t be harangued because they have the audacity to want life to carry on as normal

Most of the 'haranguing' seems to be coming from the football haters!

Mummyschnauzer · 11/07/2018 13:40

Slarti what the actual fuck is horse jumping? Is that people jumping over horses? Not my sort of thing either so unlikely to sulk if people don’t want to watch it!

RabbityMcRabbit · 11/07/2018 13:52

You are being ridiculous. What do you think is going to happen if they lose?

DieAntword · 11/07/2018 14:01

1.Be proud to be British and support England
But Britain and England are two totally different things...

Usernumbers1234 · 11/07/2018 14:04

Riddo. Domestic violence goes up by way more at Christmas and new year, should we cancel them as a lose lose situation too?

OP - the result will have nothing to do with the amount of ambulances and trouble. Indeed there will probably be more if they lose. There are ambulances in the town centre every weekend anyway, all you are seeing is an increase commensurate with the increased numbers of people in town.
More people will go out tonight than they will on any other weekday evening in the last 4 years, of course there will be an increase in trouble. Just like there is an increase in trouble on a Saturday night vs a Thursday night on any normal week.

And to the “this doesn’t happen in any other sport” people......come on, wake up. It’s the national game, indeed it’s the Global game, it drives more interest and viewership than all the other sports combined and with numbers comes idiots and with idiots comes trouble.

expatmigrant · 11/07/2018 14:05

Well we're not English but will be supporting England all the way. In fact my DD and I have tickets to go and watch the match at Hyde Park tonight with 30.000 others.
Yes it will probably be carnage either way. I don't get that bit, especially as we are also massive rugby supporters and you don't get that kind of after match response. Guess the violence is mainly left on the pitch.
