To hope they lose

Last Saturday my town centre was awash with ambulances frequently after they won that game. Quite frankly I do hope they lose as many of the fans are just wasting NHS resources and a slow Salk home would be far better than hours of celebrating drinking and all the violence that would ensue.

Other sports just don't get the same behaviour at all

OP posts:

The whole point is the violent man will go out and trash stuff or be happier or get more pissed and fall asleep. A certain percentage will still sadly rape or beat up his partner. But a smaller percentage.

The issue is male violence. Not sport.

RunMummyRun68 · 11/07/2018 09:17

Stupid thread..... and op is,er, clueless.

I'm off..... this negative thread has a dull, damp feel to it.... and it smells musty

But before I go off to a sunnier thread, just want to say to the op

ITS COMING HOME ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Eatmycheese · 11/07/2018 09:18

I personally hope the following two things happen this week

  • we win the World Cup
  • this shambolic government finally collapses and that Maybot is destroyed.

If those things don’t happen there will be riots at some point. I’d pray for a victory for the England Team and a fatal blow to Tessy if I were you 😁

OftenHangry · 11/07/2018 09:19

I think these threads are often just wind ups 🙄
Even if you don't give a hoot about football you would have to be a pretty miserable person to wish for your national team to lose imho.

Come on England! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

WeirdScenesInsideTheGoldmine · 11/07/2018 09:19

And the elitist nonsense is all bollocks too, we’re as Middle class as you can get (yes yes all the Oxbridge tropes apply here) and are cheering on the squad. As is everybody we know actually.

SummerGems · 11/07/2018 09:19

There was trouble after the France game last night. Football violence is not a uniquely English thing, no matter how much people want to convince themselves that it is.

But the truth is that the kind of people who resort to violence and vandalism after a football game are the same people who go out for a punch-up of a Friday and Saturday night, it’s just that now they can give a name to it.

petrolpump28 · 11/07/2018 09:20

the thought of domestic ( or any other) kind of violence disgusts me. I am sick of hearing this statistic trotted out about a 30 percent increase if England wins.

There are millions of people who enjoy the game and go home and get on with their lives.

whatstheplanphil · 11/07/2018 09:20

YABU
Come on England !!! ⚽⚽⚽⚽

IrmaFayLear · 11/07/2018 09:20

Definitely found out some unsavoury things about mumsnetters over the last few days.

Classist, elitist, ignorant and arrogant.

I'm embarrassed to read some of the anti football/anti English/ anti working class posts.

Indeed. I don't know why they don't draw the curtains, select a Netflix series and enjoy their evening. No need to sit crouched over the computer spewing bile and hatred about anyone daring to enjoy a national event.

Sure there are idiots (violent idiots even) but these football-hating posters reserve their vitriol for them and wouldn't dream of criticising violence or property damage if it were of the "approved" variety.

LoniceraJaponica · 11/07/2018 09:20

"? keep away from the happy dancing French people ?"

They won't be so happy and dancing if they lose, especially if we are lucky enough to get to the final. I was in Paris on Bastille Day when I was 19. I have never felt so scared of a crowd in my life. A football crowd is far, far scarier.

Fleetwoodmac2 · 11/07/2018 09:22

Yes, you are.

Now fuck off.

Seasawride · 11/07/2018 09:22

Yawn yawn yawn.

It’s coming home I can’t bloody wait. Big family bbq tonight with all the kids partners and grandkids.

Pubs are Loving it and the weather.

Brilliant and so proud to be English.

Be proud to be British and support England

Not all British people are English, just so you know. I am grudgingly still in the British union but I don't support England!

JacquesHammer · 11/07/2018 09:24

With regards to the DV issue, whilst obviously a concern, incidence of DV increase at Christmas ITRO 25%, yet there doesn’t seem to be the same horror.

NotACleverName · 11/07/2018 09:25

Get yer lucky waistcoats ready because football’s coming home!

QueenOfMyWorld · 11/07/2018 09:27

maxthemartian v true but tbh I assumed I'd get flamed for saying English over British

thor86 · 11/07/2018 09:29

1.Be proud to be British and support England

They are not representing Britain, so what has being proud to be British got to do with supporting England?

SlartiAardvark · 11/07/2018 09:32

I know that MumsNet has a higher proportion of miserable bastards than is normally found - but the football brings the moaning gits right to the top!!!!

I'm not a footy fan, but I'm getting excited about the possibility of an England win & will watch the final if we're in it.

It's a hell of a lot more interesting than reading about people's bloody kids & "should i breath in & out or out & in" duff queries.....

ScreamingValenta · 11/07/2018 09:36

I don't care whether England win or lose as football doesn't interest me. However, I disagree with the OP's point - if anything, the likelihood of drunken violence will be greater if England lose the match this evening, and whatever happens, there will be another match to come as there's a runners-up one on Saturday.

sociopathsunited · 11/07/2018 09:45

Win or lose, a thousand or so morons will be photographed jumping on ambulances, punching their spouses and destroying street furniture. Meanwhile millions and millions of people of all generations will have had a wonderful time watching the games without any of the above. Why focus on the negative?

Seasawride · 11/07/2018 09:49

I think it’s such a shame to hear welsh, Scots not supporting England how sad.

We totally supportied wales in the Euroes 2 years ago. They were terrific.

What a shame to be so negative

OliviaStabler · 11/07/2018 09:50

I suggest that lots of pissed off, angry fans at a loss will be worse than lots of exceptionally happy fans.

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 11/07/2018 09:56

You hope they lose. I hope they win. One of us will have their wish granted.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 11/07/2018 09:56

I think it’s unpatriotic to hope your national team (assuming your English) lose at a massive sporting event like this. I’m not a cricket but I’d still want England to win. You’re not unreasonable that inconsiderate dicks don’t behave like dicks but that’s separate from the England team doing well. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ⚽️
