To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

quite frankly, a fuck load of people would rather watch the semi final and not a children’s play that makes you want to gauge your eyes out.

parent of the year award right here!

Justtheonequestion · 10/07/2018 16:00

Its a game ffs

AIBU kids activities should be cancelled so a load of alcoholic chavs can go wild?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 10/07/2018 16:00

I think you'd have to have worked pretty hard to determinedly not know what day the final is tbh

No idea when it is

And i NEVER work hard

I am following the football, and until recently was convinced it was on Saturday for some reasons, completely forgot about the losers match on Saturday. It happens.

tiggyt · 10/07/2018 16:20

@CtrlCandCtrlV some parents enjoy watching their children’s school plays, others don’t especially when your child would rather be anywhere else other than on the stage performing.

The clubs/ activity organisers will make the best decision for them and their attendees. England getting to the semi final is a big deal and those who think otherwise well that’s your opinion but most people think differently and are treating the match as a rather important thing to watch tomorrow evening.

CtrlCandCtrlV · 10/07/2018 16:28

but thankfully not all schools have cancelled school plays, my kids school haven't changed their schedule and looking at the parents group, all parents are really pleased - having already made all arrangements with work and child care to ensure they could come.

None of us would come to watch a school play if our own kids were not in it! None of us would spend 2 hours in the pouring rain every Saturday and Sunday on the side of a football field if our kids were not playing that day either...

CharlieAustinsMagicHat · 10/07/2018 16:32

Nobody decent cares?

What about Gareth Southgate, eh?

arghhhhhhh · 10/07/2018 16:36

@Justtheonequestion Im not decent then....neither are millions of other people. Let's all bow down to you as you clearly know everything and everything you say is correct........or could it be the other way round????? Hmmmmm

Or could it actually be that everyone has a difference of opinion....likes and dislikes....and the majority are understanding of that. Football fans don't judge others for not liking football. Cricket fans don't judge those who don't follow it...the list goes on. The majority don't care.

Yet there will always be a few narrow and closed minded fuckwits that think they know it all and judge everyone for not living up to their standards. Not pointing the finger at you there obviously.....Hmm

I love football however so I'm not a decent person and therefore opinion is invalid. My dh is also a massive football fan and spends his life helping disabled people....but he's also a massive twat as he will be watching France vs Belgium tonight

NerrSnerr · 10/07/2018 16:41

Nobody decent cares
Why do you get to decide who is decent and who isn't?

I feel I have to add the disclaimer that of course the utter cunts who smash up cars, trash Ikea etc. are dreadful but they are the minority. The vast majority of people will be watching it at home, at the pub or on big screens enjoying themselves and not being idiots. We can't let them ruin it for everyone else who just wants to watch the football and hopefully something most of us can celebrate.

ShouldofWouldofCouldof · 10/07/2018 16:48

I work in a childrens club, on a wed night. It is a business we need custom to stay open. And we have to pay rent, even if we are closed we still have to pay. If your child wants to progress then they should attend. I love football but i will be missing the first half tomorrow as i will be teaching the children whos parents bother to bring them. Next week i will have to teach the same thing to all the kids that dont attend tomorrow. Meaning i have some students "behind". We also have a cancellation policy so if you dont attend without notice you still owe subs. Yes its a big event, dont send your kids if you dont want but no wonder small kids clubs fail and go bankrupt so often, when parents pull them.out for no reason. IPlayer/catchup tv/pause button.....

Ironically one of the chavviest replies on this thread Grin

DramaQueenofHighCs · 10/07/2018 17:25

The problem is not football fans (most of whom are totally decent people) the problem is those who think everything else must be rearranged because of a semi final. Plenty of genuinely once in a lifetime special events happen at other times and things don't come to a standstill. It's the attitude that it is always non-football fans who have to be inconvenienced because of it as if we haven't already had to put up with programme cancellations, extra crowded pubs, TVs blaring in pub style restaurants etc because of sport! Hmm (I'll being here and say sport in general there, not just football.) It just only seems to happen for sport.
I'm not 'proud' not to like it, in fact I quite enjoy a live football or sports match. I'm just not someone who enjoys watching sport on tv and am not particularly interested in whether we win or lose as for me it makes no impact. For others it does and that's great, I enjoy things they don't and that's how it should be! I'm neither proud or not about that fact, it's just how it is.

Sparklyglitter · 10/07/2018 17:27

Lovely that you are so excited about the football - it’s not my thing, but I will certainly be rooting for England, but re-arranging my life...er no! Grin

Stillonthatbloodycomputer · 10/07/2018 17:34

Ffs it's a football match that's all. Better they should have had today off and watched the 100 years celebration and commemoration of our Royal Airforce

Willow2017 · 10/07/2018 17:36

Ffs not caring about football doesnt make you snobby.

I dont care if someone likes football or not its thier choice and i wouldnt mock them for it!

Tbh most of the posters on here calling people names/saying they are stupid, snobby, ignorant etc are doing it to the posters who dont care about football. Its not a crime not to be interested in something. Its not a crime not to avidly swallow up every mention of it in tv or in papers. Its not a crime not to watch something just because some random on the internet told you it was the most important thing ever to them

Anyone is free to watch it if they want to just as others are free not to want thier lives dictated by a game of football. Its really not a difficult concept.

RoseWhiteTips · 10/07/2018 17:37

The World Cup is not “literally football”.
Think about it

DPotter · 10/07/2018 17:48

I would be really annoyed if any activity I did on a Wednesday evening was cancelled because of a football match, be it run by volunteers or paid staff. I don't follow football and wouldn't expect the world to stop just because something I was interested in was happening.
If you don't want to go - fine, but please don't deprive those who aren't interested of their activity.

ivygem · 10/07/2018 17:51

Is this a joke? I’m Scottish, live in the south of England, have to go to work regardless and don’t give a hoot. Why on earth should things be rearranged? They haven’t made it compulsory have they? Hmm

dorisdog · 10/07/2018 18:11

More ppl watch game of thrones than watch football in the UK. Maybe we should also rearrange all activities around episodes of GoT as well. (Joke. I don't think we should rearrange browies for either.)

Buffythesofasitter · 10/07/2018 18:16

My son has football training 6-7 on Wednesday nights. I've asked the coach if the session can end early to allow people to get back to the watch the football. Bit different to cancelling brownies etc though as I think it's fair to assume kids who are part of a football club have an interest in football and will want to watch the match!

dorisdog · 10/07/2018 18:18

Also, to the poster suggesting that you'd have work hard to NOT know when the final is (or whatever). I don't. And I didn't work at it. None of my friends and family give a shit that much. Not actively - they've just got other interests. And as for the snobbery stuff - I'm from a very working class back ground and most of my family are working class, fairly poor, non home owners. So quit with syerotyping.

fatimashortbread · 10/07/2018 18:30

It is not a historic event it is a football match affecting only 1 part of the country!

Frazzledstar1 · 10/07/2018 18:44

I think yabu to expect things to be cancelled, just don’t go if you want to watch the game.

I do share your excitement for Wednesday though OP, but it seems we are in the minority!

IT’S COMING HOME!! Wink Grin

chocolateworshipper · 10/07/2018 18:51

Pretty much everyone in RL is interested. I think there are literally 20 people in England who are uninterested, ones my dm and the rest are on mumsnet

Stupid comment of the thread award winner right there! Your DM + me + my DH + my DD + my DM + the people my husband went to an event with during the last England game. And we're already over 20. Oh and there's the estimated 1 million people watching the Pride parade during the match. And the people who were watching Wimbledon instead of the last England match. etc etc

wood0032 · 10/07/2018 18:55

Only if England make the final. If so, Aldi will close early on Sunday.
