To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

That last message was in response to the person asking about Aldi closing obvs!

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 10/07/2018 18:57

YABVu if you want to watch it then don’t take your kids to these clubs.
It’s football - it’s not historic and it’s not important in the grand scheme of things. The World Cup happens every 4 years.
We’ll be watching the last 15/20 minutes of it as were busy having fun before that’s

bringincrazyback · 10/07/2018 19:14

Good heavens. The world does not revolve around football.

PrincessConsuelaBanana · 10/07/2018 19:19

@bobbydeniro69
Great post - very well said! 👏🏼

missbloomsbury · 10/07/2018 19:26

The biggest issue is this: here is yet another example of ‘a better offer’ syndrome. If you’ve committed to another activity/event which has been planned and worked for, then that activity should have priority regardless of the attraction of an alternative. Old fashioned principle? Yes but one which still has real value.

BarbarianMum · 10/07/2018 19:32

There are limits though missbloomsbury Unless you seriously suggesting that no-one should ever commit to a weekly activity unless they can guarentee they will never want to do anything else on that evening. The reality with things like cubs or slirts clubs is that you are expected to attend most of the time but it is accepted that there will be tjmes that you miss - for holidays, family events and, in this case, a football match. The only difference here is that so many people want to miss the same session.

ndh1980 · 10/07/2018 19:32

It’s a football match. Not everyone is bothered about it. The whole world doesn’t stop because a group of overpaid men are running round a bit of grass.

Sharkwithknees · 10/07/2018 19:42

France are playing beautifully but I think Belgium's going to win tonight

Raspberry88 · 10/07/2018 19:49

France are playing beautifully but I think Belgium's going to win tonight.

Mm, yes, I agree.

wood0032 · 10/07/2018 19:57

Must say not a big football fan at all but (and this is where I get shot down - oh well!) I want Croatia to beat England and then win the final. They’re a more deserving team in my humble opinion. I’m not knocking the current England manager as I think he’s worked wonders with the team but I’m so NOT patriotic. If that offends...sorry...not sorry.

Sharkwithknees · 10/07/2018 19:59

Hazard and Giroud. Awesome.

JohnsonsSpreadsheet · 10/07/2018 20:01

Historic event?
I thought it happens every 4 years? Or is this the year they finally decide who wins football and that's the end of it?

CtrlCandCtrlV · 10/07/2018 20:03

France are playing beautifully but I think Belgium's going to win tonight

but someone has it on good authority that Russia will make a come back Grin

Suzielou66 · 10/07/2018 20:08

Are you mad? It’s football. It isn’t a major historical event. It’s just sport. I heard today of a school that has cancelled parents evening because of the match. Surely our children’s education is more important than a game. If it was my children’s school I would be furious. I’m sure there are many parents who have rearranged their work and social life to attend. The whole world shouldn’t stop for a game of football. No children’s activities shouldn’t be cancelled.

Sharkwithknees · 10/07/2018 20:09

Oooh like a wildcard Grin

France 1-0 Belgium Shock

Sharkwithknees · 10/07/2018 20:10

Umtiti

Plimmy · 10/07/2018 20:15

Of course it’s not a historic event.

I’m taking DS round to see a friend’s newborns - Harry and Raheem - and DD is chucking Brownies tomorrow for a ‘coming home’ party. Not sure who’s coming home but I imagine they’ll be happy.

Historic indeed!

CasanovaFrankenstein · 10/07/2018 20:18

Glad to see the trite cliches like "22 men chasing a ball" are out in force. Football is a cultural event and it's a big part of English culture. You may not like/be interested in it but it sounds ludicrously out of touch to downplay the excitement and positivity it's generating in such a negative way.

Backstabbath · 10/07/2018 20:19

Not read it all but those trying to belittle the event just remember 37mn are estimated to watch tomorrow , over 50% of the population.

Not such a small event!

cakesonatrain · 10/07/2018 20:34

My kids' martial arts training has been cancelled!

GlossyGlossy · 10/07/2018 20:36

It happens every 4 years... how is it a historic event?

Justtheonequestion · 10/07/2018 20:37

Theres just such a lack of culture, or rather, the culture is borish drunk behaviour and overpaid men with disgusting sexual behaviours.
Couldn't support that if i tried no matter how many tines they kick a ball in the net.

NerrSnerr · 10/07/2018 20:38

I don't think there's a firm definition for historical event. For me it's events from history that are notable. Gazza crying in Italia 90 was notable for me as was England winning in 1966.

Other sporting events in that in my eyes are historic were Super Saturday at London 2012, Murray winning Wimbledon, Sally Gunnell and Colin Jackson's world records at Stuttgart 1993.

I'm sure other people have historic events that I don't recognise and that's fine because we're all different and until there is an official list of things that can be called historic we can interpret how we wish.

Sharkwithknees · 10/07/2018 20:39

I so want Belgium to equalise. They deserve it.

whatwouldkeithRichardsdo2 · 10/07/2018 20:40

Of course children's activities shouldn't be cancelled. But you can choose to skip a week. Up to the individual to decide. Isn't that better?
