Seen lovely footage of fans “celebrating” by smashing up a taxi ... jumping up and down on it, completely smashed the windscreen. All done with a large crowd watching them and singing.

Jumping up and down on bus shelters, again smashing them to pieces.

I’m so utterly disgraced with my hometown.

I hate living above a pub when it's the world cup Sad

catarinapovre5 · 08/07/2018 15:36

I’m in Nottingham and so disappointed about this, what damage woul they have done if England had lost? I’m s big football fan, but just don’t get this. It’s moe about booze/drugs than a proud sorts event. 😢

HelenaDove · 08/07/2018 16:03

Oliversmumsarmy Just one rapid response vehicle destroyed is one to many.

NAFFALT.

3asAbird · 08/07/2018 16:13

True blue 22 I assume you live downend area too.

Locals all helped recover the flowers this morning and at least 1200 been raised to help downend in bloom fix the broken flowers.

Least the grommit wasent vandalised although thats a worry around bristol if any are damaged.

Some said must be youths but appears damage was done 1am to 5am so probably drunken football fans.

IamaBluebird · 08/07/2018 16:17

Most of the people behaving like complete idiots, drinking too much and watching England are not football supporters. They've probably never been to a football stadium in their lives.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2018 16:39

I'm from the same city OP and I completely agree with you.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2018 16:43

I was in town near the end of the match and didn't see anything. I must have missed it by a phew minutes, thank goodness.

hotcake80 · 08/07/2018 17:31

On the smashing up of the IKEA shop; Those young men will have been through the Kick it Out Anti racist football campaign. Some great work has been done at grass roots football to mitigate poor behaviour. They will have been taught about the holocaust and Kristallnacht. I read that even a German police dog has been attacked and there was a riot of england football fans in Benidorm.

Even if this country doesn't realise what this looks like others do.

I await arrests. But agree with HelenaDove could be a long wait. Sad
The EDL and FLA have access to very deep pockets and more.

HelenaDove · 08/07/2018 17:46

Does anyone have a link to the IKEA footage or a link to an article about it?

HelenaDove · 08/07/2018 17:56

Found some footage Fucking disgusting. Felt so sorry for those working there.

Justanotherlurker · 08/07/2018 18:20

Even if this country doesn't realise what this looks like others do.

Lets not pretend this is just an english problem, our media picks up on more as we wrongly started the "english disease" and have largely stamped it out compared to the rest of Europe.

We do not have the out and out racism of Italy/Spain etc at football matches, nor do we have the Ultras and street fights of Sweden/Italy/Poland etc etc.

If anything it speaks more about our soft power in the world that sucj incidents can spread worldwide and not it just being an english problem, ironically there was a repeat of a Live at the Apollo on last night and Russell Kane did his sketch about how the English have no second gear, I think that says more about us, in a bad and good way

hotcake80 · 08/07/2018 19:16

Lets not pretend this is just an english problem
Where's the footage of football fans in other countries smashing up "foreigners' " shops?

Justanotherlurker · 08/07/2018 19:25

Where's the footage of football fans in other countries smashing up "foreigners' " shops?

Show me the footage of english fans throwing bananas onto the field because of black players, show me the footage of the english national team singing homophobic chants, show me the footage of english ultras kicking off.

FInd that evidence that is within the generous time frame of 2 years, then we will talk about the "foreigners" that the english fans have apparent problems with.

hotcake80 · 08/07/2018 19:38

Don't understand your post lurker . If you mean Russia, well that's a whole nother linked story to us. (and FLA)

Brexit's racism has contaminated football. There's one country where louts smashed up 'foreigners' shops, and they learnt a profound lesson.

I'm signing off to do the sort of unpaid domestic work menball players and the football capitalist elite don't. Grin Bye.

Justanotherlurker · 08/07/2018 19:53

Nope, nothing to do with Russia. Italy, Spain, Poland, Sweden and France etc have a serious problem with racism and Ultra's that some day time drinking dickheads jumping on a bed in the reception area of IKEA is not comparable. Nor is it representative of football fans in general, nor of a sign of racism which is what you tried to imply

Brexit's racism has contaminated football. There's one country where louts smashed up 'foreigners' shops, and they learnt a profound lesson.

You bringing politics and brexit into this says more about you than it does about about your understanding of football, if you wanted to make laborious political associations then you need to address who is be dividing in said narrative.

Justanotherlurker · 08/07/2018 19:59

@IntelligentYetIndecisive

Well done in your google search but you seem to have ignored the fact of within 2 years, as a hint, it was only last year that Mario Balotelli was at the receiving end of bananas being thrown on the pitch, and it was in the run up to this current world cup that Mexico, Brazil, and others where warned by the FA as to homophobic chants.

You may think you have scored a win, but you are so wide of the mark

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 08/07/2018 20:12

Last year is within 2 years.

Any footage filmed after 8th July 2016 is within 2 years.

What are you on about? Hmm

catandpanda · 08/07/2018 20:33

www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/03/chelsea-football-fans-convicted-of-racist-violence-in-paris

I'm not sure how other countries also having issues makes it better. Other countries have murderers, doesn't make it fine to murder here. I think the issue is more one of drink than football though. Live near a pub and its all day drinking almost every day past month - police here said England game day was the busiest 24 hours this year and think its largely as they were drinking from 2pm to early hours of morning.

Justanotherlurker · 08/07/2018 20:41

What are you on about? hmm

Well for a start your only reference of throwing bananas and out right racism is from Scotland and another from an article that harks back to the 1980's that ignored the rise of Malmo and Germany, Italy as to being dominant in football culture

The fact the last year there is Italian/Spanish etc supporters regularly throwing bananas onto the pitch on a regular saturday game goes against the narrative of the english being small minded.

I was disputing the situation which, as insinuated in this thread. is solely an english problem.

You haven't refuted that.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 08/07/2018 21:03

It's not a solely British or English problem.

Who said that?

DelRaya · 08/07/2018 21:14

JUST WANTED TO POST SOMETHING POSITIVE.

Apparently thousands of people messaged the taxi company to check the driver was ok and a Just Giving page was started for him.
The company is also helping with the repairs.

There are good people in my city.

OP posts:
kalinkafoxtrot45 · 08/07/2018 21:18

Some English fans were kicking off in the city where I live too. Not even in England! Tossers, they spoil it for everyone, especially the fans who can behave.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 08/07/2018 21:46

A far cry from the Irish fans at the Euros.

BubblesBuddy · 08/07/2018 22:36

Yes but 4 times the number of English people watched the game than the whole population of Ireland! Ireland has no football culture and no decent clubs. Nearly all their players play abroad. It’s hardly the same. The vast majority of England fans have been fine. Yes there are a few idiots everywhere but the Police should have been geared up for this. Generally speaking it has not been a World Cup with badly behaved fans.

Here: people drink too much. Moronic drunks tend to support England football. Intelligent drunks support Rugby. They all get drunk!
