To be disgusted by my own city?

Seen lovely footage of fans “celebrating” by smashing up a taxi ... jumping up and down on it, completely smashed the windscreen. All done with a large crowd watching them and singing.

Jumping up and down on bus shelters, again smashing them to pieces.

I’m so utterly disgraced with my hometown.

I was in Nottingham on Saturday OP, I left to catch my train just as the match was starting and there were already signs it was going kick off - lotta drunk people and knobs spilling out of one bar and standing in the way of a tram. Always a good idea. daft bleddy boggers.

LeeBee11 · 09/07/2018 18:58

I think your in the same city as me, I’m totally ashamed what a bunch of dick heads!

worstmotherintheworld · 09/07/2018 19:02

I think the combination of hot weather and football is awful, add a weekend to the equation and it makes things ten times worse. I really hope it pours with rain on Wednesday!

I was out and about in my local area on Saturday morning and the number of idiotic drivers was unbelievable. All fired up and out to prove themselves, it was frightening.

user1497607114 · 09/07/2018 19:10

This is also my city - I live a mile from the centre. At 10am on Saturday people were already drinking. Alcohol + heat x football= disaster. Alcohol is at the root of the problem - these people would never behave like this sober. Shameful and embarrassing but well done Nottingham City Council and Notts Police for sending a very clear message that this won’t be tolerated.

SuzieCath · 09/07/2018 19:39

I am wih you. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from grown adults! Glad the man has been arrested but I think all those that cheered him on should be too! Goodness knows how they'll behave if we win the whole thing! Stay clear of the city on any England match day is my sad but wise advice x

BitchQueen90 · 09/07/2018 19:55

The lady who set up the donations page for the cab driver is local to me. It's done really well.

Police warn about fans' behaviour in England during World Cup

On day of Sweden match, there were 387 football-related incidents and 70 arrests

“This behaviour has real consequences. Numerous roads across the country were blocked, stopping emergency vehicles getting to people in need, and an ambulance is now off the road while being repaired.

“Shops were damaged, people were abused and assaulted and others climbed on buses and cars, causing damage to vehicles and in some cases, themselves.”

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 20:05

i cant find any articles about the cab driver.

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 20:07

Thanks for the link woman11

TornFromTheInside · 09/07/2018 20:23

30 million people watched it.
400 'incidents' and 70 arrests.

Much alcohol was partaken, and therein lies the prime cause.
There are more arrests on a Saturday night.

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 20:27

Nothing in that link about the incident on 18 June.

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 20:30

Well Torn its still too many...................im sick of excuses being made for pissheads

AESLEHC · 09/07/2018 20:32

I love football. Hate booze. Too many fans get carried away and then the mob mentality takes over.
I want England to win but worry about the unforseen consequences like the behaviour mentioned up thread and the increase of domestic violence etc.

TornFromTheInside · 09/07/2018 20:35

Agree @ HelenaDove

We as a nation are not good with drink. We can't behave responsibly.
Plenty of us do behave sensibly and drink in moderation, but as a whole, we are very poor at dealing with alcohol.

kateandme · 09/07/2018 20:45

its always the football fans

TornFromTheInside · 09/07/2018 20:50

It's not always the football fans at all.

But football at this level tends to attract big crowds and drinking happens. When that happens you get problems.

You get precisely the same on Saturday night in pubs.

It's the binge drinkers. Some of whom like football, or like cricket (and binge there too) or Saturday night 'on the tiles' etc

Ary2017 · 09/07/2018 21:01

Maybe a little unreasonable.
I mean obviously this behaviour is not ok and I don’t condone it at all however it is a TINY minority of fans.
20 million people watched the game on the tv. Many many more millions would have been in the pub watching it. The percentage of people behaving like dicks is extremely small.
People are only outraged because it’s linked to football. Much worse goes on every weekend in nighttime economy areas involving a much higher percentage of revellers

NurseryFightClub · 09/07/2018 21:04

I fear Wednesday maybe worse, there is an optimal temperature which people drink alcohol at, too cold they don't drink and too hot switch to water (at least it is @ festivals), given the later hour and the cooler weather due. Wednesday maybe worse.

TornFromTheInside · 09/07/2018 21:07

Fortunately it's in the evening and should reduce all day drinking.

If England get to the final on Sunday, then that's a very different matter (but still fortunate it's not in the evening as usual)

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 21:07

Ary yes but the NHS doesnt have money to burn which keeps getting repeated ad infinitum on the obesity threads.

Yet when pissheads do it every Saturday night its minimized even when a NHS vehicle is trashed.

Does the NHS suddenly have money to burn then? Why do the goalposts keep getting moved.

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 21:08

Im teetotal and have never been drunk and a few times ive been treated like im an anomaly.

TornFromTheInside · 09/07/2018 21:14

I often elect to drive... (I do drink sometimes), but when you're sober, it's actually quite awful to witness how people start acting after too much. It's embarrassing sometimes - overly emotional, or loud, or aggressive. Definitely an eye-opener.

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 21:18

Torn thats it really big crowds + drink sometimes = mob mentality.
