Seen lovely footage of fans “celebrating” by smashing up a taxi ... jumping up and down on it, completely smashed the windscreen. All done with a large crowd watching them and singing.

Jumping up and down on bus shelters, again smashing them to pieces.

I’m so utterly disgraced with my hometown.

Humberside police reported a record 2000 calls, last night.

Middlesbrough had its fair share of violence. Thankfully a bus is tougher than a car, but there were also reports of missiles and flares being thrown

Ireland has no football culture and no decent clubs. Nearly all their players play abroad. It’s hardly the same.

Ireland has a huge homegrown sport scene all its own (Gaelic football and hurling, run by the GAA) and fierce tribal/county loyalties, many longstanding rivalries, several counties that have long and illustrious winning histories, but there is still little or no hooliganism though there was a rough patch in the 70s and early 80s. Supporters are generally out for fun. This culture rubs off on Irish (association) football fans.

mathanxiety · 09/07/2018 05:02

..And there is a huge crossover of fans.

camelfinger · 09/07/2018 05:51

I remember it all kicking off in Nottingham in 1996 and 1998. Terrible, inexcusable scenes but this long predates Brexit.

feathermucker · 09/07/2018 06:02

Despite the incidents of (shameful) violence, there are many, many more of us who are passionate England fans and don't display anywhere near the type of behaviour that has been seen.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 09/07/2018 07:29

West Midlands Police recorded over 3000 calls.

Similar in Essex according to Essex Police Twitter though they said due to a range of factors, hmm can't imagine what that would be. Grin

We had 1,860 incidents between 6am on July 7 and 6am on July 8, our busiest 24hr period of the year.

runningkeenster · 09/07/2018 08:25

I live in a "naice" town too and there were people and chanting at 3am on Sunday morning! They aren't football fans, they were just drunk. Very drunk. Fortunately the next game is a weekday so presumably, most of them have to be in work the next day, so will have to control their drink intake somewhat.

To all the lovely football fans this evening, we thank you it was lovely meeting you all, to all the idiots that just went out to get drunk, shout at a police dog for being German??? and throw stuff around.....we are sorry you can't handle sun, celebration and drink!

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 15:02

"Similar in Essex according to Essex Police Twitter though they said due to a range of factors, hmm can't imagine what that would be"

Well the consensus amongst staff and customers alike when i was in town on Saturday was "whats the point of calling them. They cant/wont do anything."

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 17:05

Hmmm a lot about the woman but nothing about the men. Are they going to be found and charged.

Because three weeks on these havent been.

Currently on holiday in Croatia. Strangely the Croats appear to be able to celebrate their teams success without trashing anything.

Quite glad I'm here for the next match.

labazs · 09/07/2018 17:43

always some who take it too far

Growingboys · 09/07/2018 17:44

This is awful.

I was driving through London at the time of the match ending and was so struck by happy people of all colours wearing England shirts and celebrating not too noisily.

I thought what a great unifier it was for our country - badly needed, too.

It cheered me right up seeing all these different people celebrating together without a hint of aggro.

TigerTooth · 09/07/2018 17:44

There are more good than bad - I love London.

SoloD · 09/07/2018 17:53

Apparently, an Ikea got trashed. The face of Brexit Britain, a group of hate-filled drunken yobs. Very ashamed of our whole country.

Look at the Japanese fans, they celebrate by picking up litter.

TornFromTheInside · 09/07/2018 18:13

Vile. This is why I hate football. You don’t see tennis, rugby or cricket fans carrying on like that.

Rugby and Cricket you do.

IrmaFayLear · 09/07/2018 18:24

If you look on YouTube, the England fans "trashing" the Ikea jumped on the furniture and hurled cushions. Silly, but hardly trashing . And "hate-filled drunken yobs" ? Again, look at the footage.

LOL at being ashamed of whole country because England are doing well in the World Cup. 99% of people are super excited - young and old, men and women (or whatever!). The mealy-mouthed miseries can all congregate on MN on Wednesday evening and moan about how awful this country is.

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 18:39

Are you fucking joking What about the women working in that Ikea store They must have been terrified. What about the woman here in Braintree who had her car surrounded and rocked by fans then one of them climbed up on the roof (a soft top) to dance around on it then his foot went through the back window shattering it.

Well Irma you and other fans clearly demonstrate that that car isnt the only thing with a soft top.

HelenaDove · 09/07/2018 18:43

And the ambulance that got trashed is now off the road.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/07/2018 18:45

How ridiculous to be ashamed of a whole country because a minority acted like idiots. Hooliganism isn't solely British, plenty of other countries have issues but that always seems to be glossed over.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/07/2018 18:47

Oh and before I'm accused of condoning violence I'm not, I think anyone who commits an act of violence, criminal damage etc should be arrested and charged.
