To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

autumn57565 · 04/07/2018 19:47

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

I honestly can’t believe that england will win, next week or the week after it will all be over. Then don’t give it another thought for 4 years

ReadingRiot · 04/07/2018 22:14

The80s I don't get Twitter but I'm thinking I should learn just to see those tweets. I wonder what he makes of them?

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 04/07/2018 22:16

Ill be surprised if its coming home as they have been meh but while there's a chance.. Positive positive!

Then should we go out sat they'll be the usual media blahhh and Southgate slated by some no doubt for some minor reason.

THE ENGLISH DID NOT INVENT FOOTBALL

We set out the rules for association football, but the earliest record of football is in the 2nd-3rd centuries BC in China.

If you won't believe me, then believe Fifa:

www.fifa.com/about-fifa/who-we-are/the-game/index.html

www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35409594

And if you think it only counts since the rules were laid out in the 19th century, then Scotland also has a pretty strong claim:

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:18

The sir thing is a bit much really.
They haven’t won anything yet!

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:20

I don’t care about the ‘Chinese connection’
England invented football! F A rules are also English. It’s not going home to China.
They are not even in it!

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 22:20

My gran said there were 2 types of oriole drains and radiators.

Radiators siresd warmth hope and happiness and drains were the exact opposite sucking all those out of every situation.

Wonder which one op you are?

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 04/07/2018 22:25

Jesus! You’re an absolute joy, OP. I’m not a big footy fan but I’m enjoying the competition.

Neverender · 04/07/2018 22:25

I agree. It's utter bollocks.

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:26

Let’s ‘take back control’ of the World Cup.

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 04/07/2018 22:26

I’m no football fan and I’m no nationalist not come on OP, lighten up. It’s a bit of fun and a nice distraction from the wars, the poverty and the shit show that is our government. To paraphrase a very wise man, 70 million of us have to wake up to this. Murder and All-Bran and rape. And you’re sitting in this bloody shack and you can't cope with a few of us saying “it’s coming home”? You must go home at once and discuss our problems in depth Grin

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:28

Let’s control the ‘Swedish borders ‘_ get our cup back ( from 1966)

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 22:28

i sgree it’s utter bollocks

So the boost to the economy and jobs is utter bollocks is it? You are a silly billy arnt you

goingtotown · 04/07/2018 22:28

No one is asking you to join in the feel good factor. Go shopping on Saturday, the shops will be empty.

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:29

Roads and shops will be quiet on Saturday.
Good time to go out if you really hate football.

AlexanderHamilton · 04/07/2018 22:30

It’s a song. Written for the Fantasy Football Show (which was hilarious - Stattoooo anyone?) when England, the home of football hosted Euro 96.

I lived in Birmingham back then & the atmosphere was amazing.

Sara107 · 04/07/2018 22:30

I loathe football and everything around it, and especially the England team. However, I have to say I have found this tournament much, much less annoying than usual. In previous times, there has been a ridiculous amount of hubristic build-up, puffing up players like Beckham and Rooney as though they were definite gaurantees that England must win, and wall to wall coverage of every minute of preparation. Followed by humiliation on the field, and usually a bit of bad behaviour from the worst, most embarrassing sort of fans. This time I thought the build up was very low key, the team seem to be fairly down to earth young lads with no superstars or divas and the media treatment has been proportionate. The fans haven't rioted, and the team have progressed steadily - now people are getting excited and enjoying it and why not. Brexit, global warming, etc etc, maybe we all need to just chill out and relax about the footie!! It's only another few days.

ItscominghomeItscominghome · 04/07/2018 22:32

place marking or protesting

BackforGood · 04/07/2018 22:32

I think the reason many women don't like it is because the World Cup IS for men. There are no female players, and you'd never get men making a fuss and cheering about women's football or any all-female tournament

What utter bollocks you are talking OP
I take it you've never watched Women's football ? Well, clearly you haven't, from the rubbish you are spouting.
This total sexism about the Word Cup, or football generally annoys me, tbh. Why you think only men watch football, I really don't know.

As the the 'football's coming home' line, it is a lyric from a catchy song. Do you also object to people 'dreaming of a white Christmas' or telling you that 'New York is so good they named it twice' ? Hmm
I love the fact that corwds have something other than the National anthem to sing at England games.

DangoDays · 04/07/2018 22:33

Kind of see it as football is coming home to the England team. So yeah football is coming "home" to the winning team's home.

Perhaps premptive and optimistic but surely that's a nice change for England.

Just can't agree with the miserable attitude op. Sun is shining and something to enjoy.

Get into the summer world cup spirit or just ignore.

SamHeughansLeftEyebrow · 04/07/2018 22:35

it’s what’s happened!

More hyperbole. They've got to a quarter final. Whoopdedoo! That's a long way off winning the final. Every team which goes to the world cup is 'possibly winning'.

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:35

Sara - true. The Rooney / Beckham hype and wags nonsense marred most of the 90 and 00s. This team seem a bit more ‘real’ and focused.

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:36

It is what it is! No point kicking against it.
By the 16th July this and Wimbledon will d distant memories.

BackforGood · 04/07/2018 22:36

Alexander - I used to love Fantasy Football. Smile It was great. I was trying to describe it to my ds the other day - he'd have loved it if it were on now, but it was difficult for him to grasp how funny it was before the days of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
