To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

autumn57565 · 04/07/2018 19:47

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

Women shouldn't be allowed to watch the world cup or have fun, they should be at home washing the dishes.

Itchytights · 04/07/2018 22:38

Oh get a fucking grip.

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 all the way !!!!

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 22:39

God some miserable boring feckers on mumsnet tonight.

Piss off and don’t watch it then. Huddle in your miserable covens

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:39

Baddiel and Skinner were great back then. Real passion for a sport!

bluemascara · 04/07/2018 22:39

Yanbu op
I fucking hate the way England fans / commentators behave. You're right, it's embarrassing

JacquesHammer · 04/07/2018 22:41

You know all of them?

Dowser · 04/07/2018 22:42

Let the fans and players have their moment of glory
Heavens above ...they’ve all had a hell of a kicking over the years.
My 15 year old , footballer grandson is loving it...and it’s given me a bit more common ground to meet him on.

Go England...bring it home lads 👍

SoapOnARoap · 04/07/2018 22:43

You've got to hold and give
But do it at the right time
You can be slow or fast
But you must get to the line
They'll always hit you and hurt you
Defend and attack
There's only one way to beat them
Get round the back
Catch me if you can
'Cause I'm the England man
And what you're looking at
Is the master plan
We ain't no hooligans
This ain't a football song
Three lions on my chest
I know we can't go wrong

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 22:43

I find these idiots who feign superiority over foot ball fans totally embarrass themselves.

MissEliza · 04/07/2018 22:43

Agree The80s this team are more low key and better role models for kids IMHO.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/07/2018 22:44

FOOTBALLS COMING HOME Grin

🦁🦁🦁

Shockers · 04/07/2018 22:46

I get a little thrill every time I hear it. Hope is a wonderful thing!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2018 22:48

No other country is going to be worrying about what we chant. They will all be chanting their own preferred chants and cheering their own teams on. Unless they are out of the WC. In which case they will be refusing to have anything more to do with footie while they lick their wounds Grin

TheFirstMrsOsmond · 04/07/2018 22:49

As well as the song, I thought "football's coming home" was also a reference to the fact England has not been at the forefront of world class football for a very long time and have the ambition to bring the World Cup trophy "home" again like they did in 1966. Is this incorrect?

Starlive22 · 04/07/2018 22:49

OP - Stop ✋ being a whinging bore. It will be over soon enough and you can have another moan in 4 years time!

cherrytrees123 · 04/07/2018 22:51

I don't mind the song, but the flags and the mania drive me mad. I don't particularly like rampant nationalism, and i hate football. I can see that it brings the country together though in the main and a lot of people get pleasure from it. It just bores me rigid.

tiddliewinkiewoo · 04/07/2018 22:52

I don't know any woman who likes football

A post a few pages back - you need to meet my 81 year old mam Blush

She was at every match my son played from 6 years old onwards and still goes now (he's in his 20's)

She points out all the players in the world cup matches and says which English team they've played for - if there is something she doesn't know about football then it's not worth knowing Grin

I like footy too but not to that extent - if I didn't like it I'd frankly not post threads/post on threads about footy! Go me! Grin

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 22:55

i dont know any woman who likes football

Probably the most stupid thing on mumsnet today.

Are you normally this thick?

NorthenderNamechanger · 04/07/2018 22:57

It's coming home, it's coming home, it's cooooming, football's coming home!💃⚽

Love it. Reminds me of my brother and I singing along in '96, a lovely summer, excited atmosphere and lots of family time spent watching the football. I haven't enjoyed football as much since then, but love hearing that song.

Don't be a bore, OP. It'll all be over soon enough.

Who cares whether or not it is nonsense? It's nice.

zeeboo · 04/07/2018 22:59

You don't seem to understand the song @autumn57565 . It was written for Euro 1996 which was held in ENGLAND the last major tournament held in England was the 1966 World Cup, which we won. The fact that it was exactly 30 years later and the fact that the tournament was coming to our HOMEland is why the Lightening Seeds and Baddiel and Skinner wrote the song.
While in this World Cup the football hasn't come home physically, there is a chance the trophy could as this team are our best in many, many years.
The song became a football anthem and is sung at every match and by every one watching a winning match in a pub.
Sadly they haven't rewritten the lyrics so it's factually accurate enough for you.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 04/07/2018 22:59

I don't know ANY woman who DOESNT like football.
