To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

We've never had such optimisum for our national team in the last few years. Football is our national sport (some say cricket but look at the figures) and to be in the last 8 and to play Sweden then Russia/Croatia we've never had such a good chance .

Southgate is soon to be Sir Gareth Southgate after saturday.

To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense
Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 21:46

Gareth does look very smart in his waistcoat. Smile

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 21:52

It’s just a song. A very catchy annoying song , but that’s all it is. The lightning seeds were a very 90s group ( they sung it with the other two) / theydid another song which was the theme to the football focus show.

Justanotherlurker · 04/07/2018 21:53

I love the insinuation that you have to have a penis to like football, these threads are getting worse as the day go on.

By saturday these threads are either going to become more inane, or the types who don't understand/hate it will be gleefully starting threads about how england are now out whilst still not caring about it.

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 21:53

Sir Gareth! Sounds quite regal.
He could wear a red white and blue waistcoat to the ceremony.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 21:54

Oh yes. The AIBUs will be brilliant if we lose on Saturday. Hmm

'AIBU to not care we got knocked out' etc etc

aldaniti · 04/07/2018 21:55

People are going on like we've got to the final though - someone above said Gareth Southgate was managing a possibly World Cup winning team! I don't think we need to get ahead of ourselves - i've seen them in quarter finals and semi finals of worlds and Euros a number of times and not got past them. I don't understand why it's such a big deal this time.

ItscominghomeItscominghome · 04/07/2018 21:55

terrible isn't it- should be banned

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 21:57

I would care if the team go out if it.

It wouldn’t affect my life that much - although 96 rankles more than 02 when they lost in the semis! I would regroup and realise it’s just a game etc. ( give it a few decades to move on 😂)

LondonKensley · 04/07/2018 21:58

YABU. It happens once every 4 years. Get a grip!

Layla8 · 04/07/2018 22:00

Bet you’re fun on a night out.

Amyerda · 04/07/2018 22:01

you're right...love England as a country, and so welcoming on holiday....but when it comes to football....the arrogance of the pundits. .makes me want them not to win...feel bad about this(but only a tiny bit)

Growingboys · 04/07/2018 22:01

YABU

It's fun

Strax · 04/07/2018 22:02

Well I'm sort of with you OP, I couldn't care less about football and don't care if they win or lose at the weekend. But, it's had so little impact on my life the last few weeks I can't get much worked up one way or another. My kids are fed up of it being dragged into every lesson at school but apart from that, meh.

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:03

Some of the pundits are a bit too much.

It s all very silly really in the great scheme of things but best not to think too much about it.

Excellente · 04/07/2018 22:04

Oh lighten up. Read the #GarethSouthgateWould tweets on twitter and try and appreciate how this tournament is bringing men, women and kids together in such a fun, uplifting, positive way.

tinygirlsmum · 04/07/2018 22:04

Sorry... 😂

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:05

4 4 2 is a good song.. just saying.

SamHeughansLeftEyebrow · 04/07/2018 22:07

The story of Gareth Southgate's managership is a classic underdog story - from missing the vital penalty in Euro 96, to possibly managing a world cup winning team.

It's this sort of hyperbole that puts me off the whole thing.

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 22:09

It’s not hyperbole - it’s what’s happened!
England manager is a poisoned chalice.

bookworm14 · 04/07/2018 22:09

Just let people enjoy it. I’m not a football fan but I realise the world doesn’t revolve around me and my interests.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 04/07/2018 22:10

OP did you actually watch the last game? If you did there is no way you would be so unpatriotic. ITS COMING HOME!

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 22:12

You miserably cow

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 22:13

And miserable
