To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

Most of the team and their families wouldn't be allowed in this country under current and proposed 'brexit' ban on freedom of movement HO rules. Enjoy it boys, this will be the last good team.

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/07/2018 08:05

I was explaining the 'it's coming home' thing to 7yo ds yesterday. I said we invented football, we gave it to the world. And then they got better at it than us. But this team are showing us, for the first time in many years, that that's no longer the case. A young, relatively inexperienced team, with a manager many believed wouldn't cut it, who seem proud to represent their country in a way previous England teams haven't. I enjoy watching them, I like listening to their modest yet confident interviews. They all seem like good role models who are giving everything they've got, both on and off pitch. What's not to like? This to me is what the English game is all about.

TheRealMrsGarethSouthgate · 08/07/2018 08:09

Yes yes LittleLion.

Rudgie47 come on - that's a ridiculous generalisation. My DM is 70 and used to love going to the football with her Dad. Just because none of your friends likes football that means nothing. What about women who play professional football or the numerous amount of women who go to football matches? Ridiculous statement.

likeacrow · 08/07/2018 08:10

I would definitely not rather play football than watch it. That'd be even worse.

People can enjoy what the want, I just find it boring and irrelevant to my life, whether it's England or any other country playing.

What I do find funny though is that I'm supposed to be "bitter" and "jealous" at all the joy and good times this football's supposedly bringing. Really really not.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 08/07/2018 08:11

The British Army say 'It's coming home' so you better believe it Smile!!!
People are happy and we need more of that so 'Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🦁🦁🦁'
World Cup Semi-finalists SmileSmileSmile

Itchytights · 08/07/2018 08:14

Likeacrow

Not just jealous or bitter- I would say more nasty and very mean spirited too.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 08/07/2018 08:15

Just for you OP.

To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense
Downtheroadfirstonleft · 08/07/2018 08:17

I'm not a football fan, but it's nice to see people happy. I do remember the '96 defeat and its nice to see Southgate smiley too, I felt so sorry for him.

The Brexit thread is bizarre at the moment. As well as the usual doom and gloom, they seem to want England to lose as a victory would make the uk govt overly demanding in its negotiations....

likeacrow · 08/07/2018 08:18

@Itchytights

Charmed to meet you too dear.

GameOfMinges · 08/07/2018 08:22

That's what I thought re arts banana. Wonder if that person never reads books but writes their own every time they feel like a nice novel!

MishMashMosher · 08/07/2018 08:25

Haven't read the thread but totally agree op. Hope England lose the next match so we can all just get back to normal and all these disgusting football yobs who think it's acceptable to smash up pubs, ikeas and emergency response vehicles, can go back to whatever they did before. Absolutely ashamed of this country.

billybagpuss · 08/07/2018 08:30

Went to the theatre last night and the clarinet played ‘it’s coming home’ to warm up his instrument

user1471596238 · 08/07/2018 08:30

Yobs don't need football to indulge in anti social behavior. Why should they spoil it for the majority of the law abiding football fans?

emmcan · 08/07/2018 08:41

@Remainscominghome How do you work that out? Are you being a bit Daily Mail in assuming that the skin colour of some squad members in some way makes them not British? Yes. You are.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 08/07/2018 08:47

mishmash your comment is as disgusting as the yobs that are doing the things you say. (If they are personally ive not seen anything like that)

99% of football fans are nothing like that and abhore that sort of behaviour. Come out of the 70s and stop taring normal law abiding citizens with the same brush criminals

IrmaFayLear · 08/07/2018 08:48

Can I ask England Football Haters:

  1. Is it ok to have a good time and make a noise at other celebrations, such as Pride? (They do make an awful lot of noise!)
  1. If Colombia had won, would be ok for their fans (and whole country) to go wild? If Croatia beat us [nooo!!!!!] would it be acceptable for Croatia to be excited?

Or is it just us who has to be - what was it? - the "laughing stock of Europe" ??? [wtf?]

Follyfoot · 08/07/2018 08:48

Most of the team and their families wouldn't be allowed in this country under current and proposed 'brexit' ban on freedom of movement

Eh? Which ones came into the UK from Europe through freedom of movement?

Plimmy · 08/07/2018 08:49

What is this about fans smashing up an Ikea?

Seems a very odd target for football fans. I’d have expected Ikea-hate to come from middle-class style fascists.

GameOfMinges · 08/07/2018 08:52

I expect Pride is ok. Doesn't have the same class associations after all.

Follyfoot · 08/07/2018 08:52

Yob behaviour happens every Friday and Saturday night across the UK. It's a societal thing, not a football thing. The - very small - number of people causing trouble last night would probably be tipping out of pubs and fighting anyway sadly. And if you think damage to emergency vehicles is only football related, you are very wrong in that assumption.

Follyfoot · 08/07/2018 08:59

Just to add, I abhor football related violence just as much as any other violence. I've been watching for more than 40 years and have yet to feel threatened or witness a person being assaulted. The most intimidated I've ever felt at a sporting event was at an international cricket match.

likeacrow · 08/07/2018 09:00

@IrmaFayLear

Not a football hater, just totally disinterested, but I'll answer anyway.

Pride, I'd be more interested in as it's about celebrating equal rights for all, which is something I feel strongly about, unlike football.

Columbia & Croatia fans can go as wild as they like. As can England fans. I just wouldn't join in. Same difference.

BitOutOfPractice · 08/07/2018 09:01

@Remainscominghome could you explain why people born in England wouldn't be allowed into the UK?

WrongOnTheInternet · 08/07/2018 09:04

Hi Folly. Another denier. Just why do police forces around the country spend so much time and effort policing football every week then? Why do many people who have no interest whatsoever in the sport stay aware of when matches are on so they can avoid town centres (actually you can tell there's a match on because the police appear in droves, it doesn't take much effort)?
