To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

Wednesday shall henceforth be known as Waistcoat Wednesday!

Grin

Wear your waistcoat with pride people. That'll really piss off all the haters. Something else to have an opinion on.

I really don't get why people feel the need to waste their precious lives on hating things with such passion!

I'll be 'coming home'Wink from work, closing the kitchen by 6pm and drinking in every single moment of a truly brilliant World Cup.

Waistcoat Wednesday- inspired! I will share that idea far and wide!

RoseWhiteTips · 07/07/2018 23:20

Well done Croatia. That was an epic battle that might stand you in good stead.

bananafish81 · 08/07/2018 06:18

I really do not get how anyone could care about a bunch of men running around after a ball. I generally do not care much about watching people do things. I'd much rather do something myself.

Do you ever enjoy going to the theatre or cinema, even though you're not the one acting?

Or watching and listening to music performances, even though you're not the one playing?

Or watching comedy, even though you're not the one performing?

Fair enough if you genuinely don't enjoy any kind of entertainment by anyone who's expert in their field of performance. Seems to exclude pretty much any form of entertainment, both high and low brow culture. Opera and Shakespeare is watching people do things, after all.

Each to their own, however. If you do enjoy any kind of arts entertainment, surely it's not within the wit of woman to conceive how perhaps someone might enjoy sports entertainment as well. Shows a distinct lack of imagination to not be able to wrap your head around why a large proportion of the world might watching sport, even if you don't - but there you go.

Oh just go and have a shag or something and chill the fuck out.

I agree with bananafish . It's smug superiority of the highest order. I bet no one comes on Mumsnet to say 'Oh Id rather play Tennis (poorly) than watch Wimbledon! '
Most of the time I'm completely bored and uninterested in the overpaid primadonnas of English football and their thuggish fans, but I've been jumping around with everyone else these past few days. It reminds me of when I was a teenager during Italia 90 when the excitement and atmosphere was similar. Some things make the world a better place just for a little while, and people just being happy and proud of a group of who seem like lovely young men doing well on the world stage is one of them. I think its brilliant that we can finally watch an England team that seems like they can be bothered to play for England and are doing well. I had to go into my City centre just after the match and was a bit apprehensive about it, but there were a few lads singing loudly and everyone else was just cheery and relaxed enjoying the sun. It was great.Come the Premier League season I will be once again happily going to bed early when Match of the Day is on but until then Come on England!!

TheFormerMrsPugwash · 08/07/2018 07:27

What do waistcoats have to do with football? Confused

FuckPants · 08/07/2018 07:30

People like different things.

Shock horror.

MaverickSnoopy · 08/07/2018 07:38

Back to the original point "it's coming home"....I think it's great that we have something to be excited about. There is so much bloody misery in this country, Brexit, budget cuts and so on. We never win at eurovision....it's nice to be able to get excited about something. Do I think England will win? No probably not. But I'm going to support my team and honestly the fact that we've got this far, for me, feels like football already has "come home". We've been waiting years to get this far, to win at a penalty shoot out etc. Why shouldn't we be allowed to get excited?! Besides which, it's not over until it's over! We haven't had any drunkens singing or shouting in our area and we live a 3 minute walk from the pub. Ditto my parents who live in a totally separate area to us.

And the woman thing. Me, my mum, DH and our 2 girls watched it yesterday. DH is massively excited but we, the woman, we're shouting louder and celebrating more. Of course women like it, why wouldn't we?!

GameOfMinges · 08/07/2018 07:42

Gareth Southgate's preferred match attire mrspugwash.

candlefloozy · 08/07/2018 07:44

Its coming home

likeacrow · 08/07/2018 07:45

@HollyGibney

Good one. No, YOU do... 🙄😂

WilburIsSomePig · 08/07/2018 07:47

FFS hate it and don't get involved with it if you like, but why would you resent other people from enjoying the atmosphere for a couple of weeks? That's just weird.

I'm Scottish and think it's brilliant.

Unicornandbows · 08/07/2018 07:47

Because... It's coming home Grin

TheRealMrsGarethSouthgate · 08/07/2018 07:49

The 'expert' commentators were saying the team were too young, too inexperienced same for Gareth Southgate.

But look what this young motivated team and English manager are achieving. They're so modest when interviewed. They really are wearing their England shirts with pride and leading by example with their behaviour on and off the pitch.

It's refreshing. It's exciting. And I truly hope they do bring it home with them.

bananafish81 · 08/07/2018 07:49

M&S might be issuing a special edition 'It's coming home' waistcoat (as the official supplier to Mr Waistcoat himself) Grin

ElMarineroBaila · 08/07/2018 07:52

Love how no one agreed so the sexism card had to come out instead.

It must be a miserable life going around whinging about popular things just because you don't want to get involved. Chill out and have some fun.

Also FOOTBALLS COMING HOME

strawberrisc · 08/07/2018 07:56

God there are some right boring and pedantic dicks in the world.

It's coming home.

stressedoutpa · 08/07/2018 07:58

What a miserable old bat you sound.

It's as cheesy as shite but it makes me laugh every time I hear it.

It's stuff like the football that helps to bring the country together. People are excited and proud. What is wrong with that?

emmcan · 08/07/2018 08:00

@autumn57565 is obviously trolling...
Beat Croatia and then the final.
It's coming home.
