To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

We, it’s from Euro ‘96 when we hosted it, so yes it did ‘come home’, although we lost to Germany in the semis.
Considering we’re in the semis again it’s pretty exciting even if you’re not usually a football fan - like me. It lifts the mood of the nation.

Just watching Russia v Croatia, having sat through England v Sweden and all the previous games

Some beautiful happy women picked out by the camera(people) except among the England supporters.

Is this because of a reluctance the objectify the women of England or an absence of female England supporters - or just an absence of happy, beautiful England women supporters?

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/07/2018 19:23

LadyPenelope68
Typical football mentality on this thread from supporters, why does that not surprise me? Have a biscuit

I don't like football, I haven't since the mass of hooliganism it became when I was younger, and the tribalism that it promotes now.

But I do like seeing people enjoying themselves.

Whether its talking about last nights love island, football or wimbledon.

Some people need to unclench

Itchytights · 07/07/2018 19:23

Here op have a Biscuit

And please do shut the door on your way out

likeacrow · 07/07/2018 19:26

@surferjet

That's so profound. You have totally changed my mindset, thank you.

I drink beer from cans regularly and am currently wearing a (stained) vest top. No snobbery here, just think football is dull as fuck.

And if I'm totally honest, I'm finding it hilarious how wound up and defensive some people are getting over their special little game! Chill out. Enjoy. I'm off to watch Corrie on catch up. Cheers 🍻

emmcan · 07/07/2018 19:30

Looking a bit stupid now though, OP...

TheOnlyLivingMumInNewCross · 07/07/2018 19:30

YABU
My DC are 9 and 11 and it's the first tournament that they've been old enough to get really excited.
We've got the best team we've had in 28 years.
People are smiling, chatting and enjoying themselves which is great for the economy.
Stop being so boring and miserable and join in!

lemonnmeringuepie · 07/07/2018 19:30

Really not a football fan but can't deny it's coming home!! 😃

emmcan · 07/07/2018 19:31

@Itchytights lol

Trampire · 07/07/2018 19:31

I don't normally follow football, but this World Cup is GREAT!

I LOVED the match. My dcs are all caught up in it, neighbours are all talking about it and cheering each other over the hedges.....

I don't get the cats bum faces, I really don't.

GirlsBlouse17 · 07/07/2018 19:32

They are not a mediocre team. They are pretty good actually. Best England team in a long time and our best chance of winning the World Cup in a long time. The Coming Home song is getting annoying but no need to be so miserable about it. I think we do get excited about the Olympics and Wimbledon. Is nice to have an opportunity to be proud and supportive of our country and sports teams

futuristic1 · 07/07/2018 19:32

It is the BEAUTIFUL game!

Although the English (wo)men seem to be mainly pot-bellied, bald and middle-aged - but each to their own.

At least there's no chance of the Colombians or Swedes coming over here stealing our wimmin!

Mercurial123 · 07/07/2018 19:33

Futuristic maybe you would like to post your photo I'm sure you are gorgeous.....

futuristic1 · 07/07/2018 19:34

Even Gary Lineker said we haven't beaten anybody yet - meaning anybody good and already lost to the Belgian B team.

Anything could happen though.

futuristic1 · 07/07/2018 19:35

Better looking than you...

footballscominghomexxx · 07/07/2018 19:36

Well, I am a part time football supporter, I like watching it and support a team but I don't keep up to date with what is happening and don't always understand the rules... but this world cup is just super!!! The match today - I saw the second half, and the goal keeper was amazing!! He defended both shots, both quite fast shots, from sweden, the first he had to dive to the left and the second he tipped up over the bar. The English team were full of energy, they look really serious and committed and fit, not like some of the former teams, who looked like they had been out on the razzle strutting their stuff all night. And the last match with the penalties, soooo exciting! I was in a pub full of non English people this afternoon (I am abroad) and they were all supporting us! It was lovely!

mydogisthebest · 07/07/2018 19:36

LadyPenelope, I am no way a supported of football but I would love to see England win for all the supporters that have had years and years of disappointment.

I am happy that so many other people are happy - my neighbours, my dad, my sister, my brother in law. When I knew we had won today I went into the garden and shouted to my youngish male neighbour(he is 30) "It's coming home". He is so happy about it.

I got really excited with the London Olympics. I was lucky enough to see a few events and the atmosphere, not just in the stadium or in the park but also on the tube, on the buses etc was brilliant. I watched Andy Murray win his Gold on a big screen at Hyde Park and people were dancing with joy. Seeing other people happy makes me happy.

IT'S COMING HOME, IT'S COMING HOME, FOOTBALL'S COMING HOME

YearOfYouRemember · 07/07/2018 19:38

It in the it's coming home is the trophy....

Mercurial123 · 07/07/2018 19:38
