To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

It's coming home. Grin

likeacrow · 07/07/2018 18:49

no one can deny this team is absolutely fantastic.
Genuinely wouldn't know either way. I've heard they've won obviously, but I can't name one person on the team or say whether or not they're "fantastic" or shit. I know as much about them as the English curling team and care about their matches to precisely the same degree.

Anyway, it's Saturday, your "fantastic " team have just won some football... shouldn't you lot all be celebrating not dicking around on MN?! 5

Pinkgeorge · 07/07/2018 18:49

It’s going to France 🇫🇷

likeacrow · 07/07/2018 18:50

Dunno what the "5" is in aid of!

DiegoMadonna · 07/07/2018 18:52

It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming,
Football's coming home!
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming,
Football's coming home!
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming,
Football's coming home!
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming,
Football's coming home!

I am not interested in football ever, I’m not going to pretend that I give a shit now just because of the World Cup!

What I really resent is people constantly telling me I should be interested/excited/proud.

I’ve just heard a chorus of ‘it’s coming home’ and Looked out of the window to see a group of men high fiving and dancing around with a group of teenage lads as they past each other- it was quite sweet actually. I love the optimism and hope in the air it feels like they actually could win and that would mean a huge amount to a lot of people.

likeacrow · 07/07/2018 19:00

a group of men high fiving and dancing around
Cringe.

surferjet · 07/07/2018 19:01

likeacrow

You seem overly bitter about people enjoying themselves.

How sad.

VioletCharlotte · 07/07/2018 19:03

I don't normally watch football, but I love the spirit of excitement that's on the air at the moment. It's especially nice as no one really expected this young team to do well.

HollyGibney · 07/07/2018 19:04

The miseries on this thread remind me of...

To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense
likeacrow · 07/07/2018 19:06

surferjet

Thank you for your concern. 😙

IndigoSpritz · 07/07/2018 19:06

All this 'coming home' stuff is nonsense anyway. Football never fecking goes away ( or so it always seems) so, by definition, it can't be coming home. I just try to ignore it. I fully accept it's important to many folk and makes them happy but it's all lost on me.

likeacrow · 07/07/2018 19:09

For all these supposed fans being over the moon, a lot of them appear to be "celebrating " by commenting on MN every few seconds. But yeah, proper bitter and jealous at all the fun you're clearly having... 😂

Mercurial123 · 07/07/2018 19:09

I'm not a football fan but the hatred coming from Irish people I work with makes me REALLY want England to win.

Plimmy · 07/07/2018 19:09

Quite possibly the stupidest, most Ill-timed and most life-sucking AIBU ever.

WHAT FUCKING DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE TO YOU?

surferjet · 07/07/2018 19:10

You’re welcome,
Just try & loosen up a bit.
Happy people find other people’s happiness infectious, even if it’s not their particular thing. It’s only miserable bitter people who find other people’s happiness offensive.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/07/2018 19:12

Ladyp I hope that is an organic biscuit and not - as I fear, a common jammy dodger

ghostyslovesheets · 07/07/2018 19:14

Likeacow I am celebrating by watching the Russia Croatia match while eating my tea - or can you only ever imagine football fans drinking cheap beer in vest while chanting slogans Grin

I am sober as well !

ladymariner · 07/07/2018 19:15

With you all the way surferjet, there's some really miserable people on here.....

Oh yeah, and its coming home!!!! 🏆⚽

HollyGibney · 07/07/2018 19:16

I don't really understand this. It's the second time you've said we should be off celebrating and not be on MN. I'm a single parent with two children and no child care. What should I be doing exactly? Confused. I watched the match, I watched the interviews and post match analysis, baked cookies with dd from a mix that's been sitting in the fridge since Thursday and had to be used today. Am I supposed to be getting pissed and cavorting round the streets wrapped in England flags, like supposedly typical football ruffians?

Mrsmadevans · 07/07/2018 19:17

It feels good to be connected with a lot of ppl. I love it that no matter who we are, we are joined together for once.

Itchytights · 07/07/2018 19:20

Thank fuck the nastiness I have encountered for England is only on MN.

Mrsmadevans · 07/07/2018 19:20

'For all these supposed fans being over the moon, a lot of them appear to be "celebrating " by commenting on MN every few seconds. But yeah, proper bitter and jealous at all the fun you're clearly having... 😂'

I am currently caring for my very elderly parents and have no option to go out to celebrate anything. I am enjoying the matches with my family is there really something wrong with that?
