To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

Aeroflot

I love the olympics Wimbledon and footy. If that makes me sad desperate and pathetic so be it.

You sound really miserable.

Re Vindaloo :

He was spectating whilst I was lactating - I could have murdered him! Grin

We're gonna score one more than you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aeroflotgirl · 04/07/2018 23:27

Thanks Seasawride no it does not, just not a football fan, but that coming home stuff, sorry we are not there yet are we! Yes I hope that we win, that would be fantastic, I would be really pleased. I am not that miserable just because I am not keen on Football, I am quite a happy person actually Smile.

LizB62A · 04/07/2018 23:28

FFS if you need "It's coming home" explained to you, you need to get out more.

On a serious note - there is so much bloody horrible stuff going on in the world today - I cannot find any reason to get angsty about a song or a nation who yes, may be deluded in thinking that we could win/bring football home but you know what? It's bringing people together - families planning barbecues and getting together to watch a match - Feeling proud (whether to some deluded or not) to be English if it even is for some crappy sport in your opinion.

You don't like it? Turn the tv off. Put netflix on? I just don't get the negativity against those who DO enjoy it.

Plimmy · 04/07/2018 23:29

Just so long as Russia go out we can all be happy. Hosts, non-winners and back to being international pariahs - got to be right, surely.

LeighaJ · 04/07/2018 23:34

How many bitter old biddy threads do we need from the football haters? Hmm

I don't know if I have enough spare 'grips' to go around. Grin

Aeroflotgirl · 04/07/2018 23:35

Sorry LeighaJ, a thread like this will always bring us misery football haters out of the woodwork, or we would still be hiding Grin.

Aeroflotgirl · 04/07/2018 23:36

I don't think I am that old at 41 btw Grin, yes I was alive and kicking in 96 thank you Grin.

Lockheart · 04/07/2018 23:37

I will be watching the game with great interest and enthusiasm on Saturday.

I think “footballs coming home” is nonsensical and factually incorrect, as I have already explained.

Both sides of the argument on this thread are being unnecessarily vicious to each other.

Could everyone please not be so unpleasant?

augustusglupe · 04/07/2018 23:40

The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team

Well I was pissing myself watching that bunch of childish louts they were up against!! How England managed to keep their cool atall is a miracle. They deserved to win that game!! I’ve never felt prouder 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️

Of course this was the best anthem ever - can't believe we aren't all chanting OP's ears off Grin

CoughLaughFart · 04/07/2018 23:44

Fuck off.

mathanxiety · 04/07/2018 23:49

Delusions of grandeur is assuming the rest of the world is thinking anything at all about England fans or what they say...

GunpowderGelatine · 04/07/2018 23:50

I always thought it meant the world cup trophy's coming home (after 1966)?? Confused

I so want England to win on Saturday, I think they will but I don't think we'll make the finals. I feel quite sorry for people who are totally convinced this is our year, I fear disappointment is on the horizon!

Plimmy · 04/07/2018 23:53

CoughLaughFat

Er, ok. Wrong thread maybe?

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 23:57

Aerofkot

But but you can dislike football and refrain from calling fans sad, desperate and pathetic!!

Well if we don’t win at least Germany and Argentina won’t either. If France are out that would be better too. Grin

I played vindaloo to my toddler grandson to piss of my oldest son who couldn’t give a crap about footy. My Other kids love it.

It’s my duty to make my son shiver on touchlines like I did for years. Grin

I do hope that wasn't directed to me? Hooligan Grin

But fearing disappointment isn't a reason not to hope. Yes, we all know in the back of our minds that anything could happen on Saturday and that if we do get through, it's highly likely we won't make it past the semis, but that's all the more reason to enjoy this while it lasts and to revel in the celebration and the hope for the future while we can.

Once the future is here and we're knocked out, we will all be put back in our place, don't worry!

MargotLovedTom1 · 05/07/2018 00:09

I'm pleased one other person remembers the best ever football song as evidenced by the quoting of John Barnes' seminal rap aboveWink.

"We're playing for England (IN-GER-LAND!!), we're playing the song..."

Italia '90 was amazing.

HollyGibney · 05/07/2018 00:09

The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

Well all countries who qualify deep down believe they'll win, no matter how unrealistic and we are not laughing at them are we? Why would they be laughing and sneering at us? What a nasty way of looking at your own country. Why shouldn't we revel in our small triumphs? We need a bit of positivity. I have no doubt they'll be out on Saturday, but What If?!

GunpowderGelatine · 05/07/2018 00:11

Margot have you seen where they do the rap on Gavin and Stacey? Excellent scene Grin

Seasawride · 05/07/2018 00:14

this time more than any other time this time we are on our way

Christ I remember that on top of the pops but no idea the year. Grin very very old.

I was pregnant in 1990 with ds2 and was very excited and shouty at the footy. He’s a massive fan and now 27 was pretty shouty on Tuesday. I think it transferred through the placenta Grin

tiddliewinkiewoo · 05/07/2018 00:31

Seasawride · 05/07/2018 00:34
