Why is the story of this poor girl so far down all the news websites?

The people naming him can only have got it from people on the island, you'd hope they had more common sense wouldn't you? Clearly my expectations of common sense are, once again, too high.

SoddingUnicorns · 05/07/2018 18:11

Apparently MrsJayy, I haven’t seen it myself and I don’t want to if I’m honest. But I’m not surprised, especially on twitter its usually fairly common for people meant to remain anonymous to be named.

MrsJayy · 05/07/2018 18:16

I can see why they name him but it really isn't needed

RunMummyRun68 · 05/07/2018 18:17

I've seen it and won't be sharing. No idea what happened but feel so sorry for those families

SoddingUnicorns · 05/07/2018 18:24

I’m fairly sure there could be legal consequences for anyone sharing the name tbh. And there should be, otherwise it could have real consequences for the trial.

I think this case is best left in the hands of the police/justice system for now. If it doesn’t do what it should do, fair enough, but until then it’s best left and not derailed by SM users.

RunMummyRun68 · 05/07/2018 18:31

16 year old friends of this kid don't think like that though

They are shocked and angry and probably think they are invincible . I'd hope their parents step up and speak to them

This is third murder I remember where a teen has been the perpetrator.... all named on sm by their peers Sad

MrsJayy · 05/07/2018 18:42

I don't think sharing is right though.

SoddingUnicorns · 05/07/2018 18:51

These teens will probably have a chap at the door from the police shortly, as if they haven’t got enough to do.

It’s becoming a circus, when what really matters is that a family has been devastated by the awful loss of a lovely wee girl.

Alesha is who should be important here, but as usual the victim becomes lost in the rush to gossip and cast aspersions.

Far far too often it is the person who has died that becomes an afterthought, when it is they who should be at the forefront of it all.

Hum2 · 05/07/2018 18:56

He's named on Facebook, people keep posting screenshots of his Facebook profile on local news articles. He isn't the typical looking 'alterbative loner' (judging by his photos). He looks popular and social and still so young himself ☹️ I hope the omitting of the word 'murder' from the news release is a sign that this is an accident and he's panicked. Absolutely no comfort to the family but it's best that this was a covered up accident where she didn't suffer, than a brutal murder.

Nicknacky · 05/07/2018 19:08

At this stage he would be charge with murder, not culpable homicide. The charge may be changed by crown office but the police will put him to court for murder.

LagunaBubbles · 05/07/2018 22:51

It's the Procurator Fiscal here in Scotland, not the Crown Office.

Nicknacky · 05/07/2018 22:55

laguna It’s the Crown office and Procurator Fiscal Service in Scotland. I shortened it.

wakemeupbefore · 05/07/2018 23:23

Police are concerned about talk on sm that the actual culprit was someone from the settled refugees on the island, from Guardian.
Terrible, terrible thing to happen.Sad

RunMummyRun68 · 05/07/2018 23:31

The person arrested is definitely NOT a refugee!!

RunMummyRun68 · 05/07/2018 23:32

Wasn't it Katie Hopkins who stirred the pot about that?

Nicknacky · 05/07/2018 23:34

He is def not a refugee.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 06/07/2018 07:04

Flowers Parkhead. I am so sorry.

The fact that Alesha’s mum found out in Facebook is horrible.

MrsJayy · 06/07/2018 07:38

He isn't a refugee that was stirred up by her on twitter and then some people on facebook.

sashh · 06/07/2018 07:41

Because, unfortunately, in this country football is more important that a child murder.

There hasn't been much coverage of the nurse arrested on suspicion of murder of between 8 and 17 babies.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/lucy-letby-cheshire-baby-deaths-hospital-garden-dig-nurse-arrested-a8433466.html

Helmetbymidnight · 06/07/2018 08:13

Again, could those people saying there has been very little or even no coverage tell us what news sources they use?

The80sweregreat · 06/07/2018 09:11

It has gone a bit quiet about the nurse with the babies and the investigations into the doctor as well ( think thats in Gosport?)
Things do tend to ebb and flow on the news at times.

SoddingUnicorns · 06/07/2018 09:30

I knew as soon as Bute was mentioned that some dickhead would start blathering about innocent refugees. Ugh.

SoddingUnicorns · 06/07/2018 09:31

Again, could those people saying there has been very little or even no coverage tell us what news sources they use?

I’m on holiday in England and obviously have my usual Scottish news apps/SM, there has been minimal coverage (and the infamous bloody BBC tweet).

Only since he’s been arrested/charged has the coverage gone up.

It certainly hasn’t been headline news.

Helmetbymidnight · 06/07/2018 09:42

It was headline news for two/three days on radio four and two. I genuinely can’t understand those posters saying they hadn’t heard of this. [england]

could people be specific about the news sites they usually access that didn’t cover this?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/07/2018 10:04

I have strong family connections to another Scottish island where there hasn't been a murder for nearly a century, as far as I know. If this happened on the tiny community there, it would be a seismic shock. Everybody would know the families concerned, or be at one remove from people who did. It will take a long time to recover from this, in all senses. Sad
