Why is the story of this poor girl so far down all the news websites?

Once a person has been charged and appeared before a court to answer the charge there can be no more reporting on the case. Sub judice kicks in.

Nicknacky · 04/07/2018 22:08

Until the trial, that is.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/07/2018 22:09

But it has been on the news non stop, here in S England.

Which news sources are not reporting this?

Tutlefru · 04/07/2018 22:54

DM says a teenage boy has been arrested, under 18.

Poor girl, poor family. Sad

LoniceraJaponica · 05/07/2018 07:04

"Which news sources are not reporting this?"

I'm puzzled by this as well. I have been getting news updates on my phone, hearing on radio 2 and on TV.

PolkerrisBeach · 05/07/2018 07:36

BBC reporting "a man under the age of 18" - so probably 16 or 17. The law says:

"Section 47 of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995 prohibits the publication of the name, address, school or any particulars calculated to lead to the identification of any person under the age of 18 who is an accused, victim or witness in criminal proceedings."

"This applies even when such details are revealed in open court. The media may apply to have this restriction lifted through a court motion or by lodging a formal minute"

So any person of this age will remain anonymous at least until a case goes to trial. Press can than apply to have the restrictions lifted, which they may or may not be. Often not - that case a few years back with the lad being stabbed at a school in Aberdeen had a perpetrator of 16/17 who has never been officially named. Although it doesn't stop people speculating on social media.

Clawdy · 05/07/2018 08:03

Surprised the facebook page hasn't been removed, it is full of weird comments and speculation.

TheGlaikitRambler · 05/07/2018 08:09

What facebook page?

ButchyRestingFace · 05/07/2018 08:12

I read that it’s a 16 year old, on FB there were posts talking about who he is (obv not repeating here).

Both this case and the baby murdering nurse

alleged baby murdering. In any case, the DM has done enough salacious reporting on this story.

Fluffyears · 05/07/2018 08:14

It’s a horrible tragedy and people would be best to keep that in mind. Nowhere has stated she was removed from her mothers care it’s thr school holidays up here and she was on holiday with her dad’s family. Butebis a tiny island but easily accessible from major cities so not remote.

gamerwidow · 05/07/2018 08:17

I’m pleased that for once there hasn’t been wall to wall press coverage of this tragedy.
The girl is dead let her family mourn for her without everyone ghoulishly watching the spectacle.

LimboLuna · 05/07/2018 08:47

It’s been one of the lead stories on the bbc. As it should be. Poor poor baby. But sometimes I think it’s better when not too much is reported. This isn’t like one of the other cases where police have needed the publics help.

The nurse story though, pictures of her have been published which surprised me. I guess actually, there’s very little to report until after a trial

SoddingUnicorns · 05/07/2018 09:48

Often not - that case a few years back with the lad being stabbed at a school in Aberdeen had a perpetrator of 16/17 who has never been officially named.

Actually he was formally named in the press on his 18th birthday, his name is Daniel Stroud.

SoddingUnicorns · 05/07/2018 10:03

This was the BBC on twitter. Interesting that despite hundreds of complaints about the inappropriate headline it’s still there 24 hours later.

MrsJayy · 05/07/2018 11:30

I can't believe that was allowed to stand yaaayyfoot ball oh yeah and a child murder but yaaayy football

SoddingUnicorns · 05/07/2018 11:43

The thread underneath is just people telling them how appalling the headline is. Nobody at the BBC decided to respond or even give a shit.

This is where we are as a society, that football is an excuse to minimise the murder of a child. Ugh.

Groovee · 05/07/2018 12:06

It's been news up here. But reporting restrictions means things will be limited. In Scotland there are restrictions but when Mikaeel was found the English press could report things about his mother that the Scottish press couldn't.

RIP Alesha x

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/07/2018 14:53

It's probably just as well there isn't 'huge' amounts of interest (journalists paying for the story etc.).

It won't be speculation in Bute — there's only one senior school, people there are going to know exactly who's been arrested. There are less than 200 people of vaguely the right age, and about half of those will be girls.

Xenia · 05/07/2018 15:16

It's been all over my newspapers including The Times.

Nicknacky · 05/07/2018 17:00

He has been charged. Poor wee soul and her family.

RunMummyRun68 · 05/07/2018 17:22

And named already!

Nicknacky · 05/07/2018 17:29

Are folk naming him on fb? Clowns.

MissEliza · 05/07/2018 17:57

I see a boy has been charged. I feel so sad for the family. Poor wee girl Sad.

SoddingUnicorns · 05/07/2018 18:00

These fucking idiots naming him have no idea that by doing so they could derail a trial. These constant twats on SM with their speculation and pitch forks need to understand that.

MrsJayy · 05/07/2018 18:08

Has he beennamed on social media ?
