To wish the people screaming outside would shut up?

Yes, I do understand that people are excited about the football, but it’s Tuesday night and my DC, who is completely exhausted, has to get up early for school - the rather scary shouting has just woken her up. Yep, I know someone will say I should move to the middle of nowhere. I would love to - as many people would - but sadly that’s not possible.

Wow I was shouting for Colombia but Christ I'm nearly tempted to start shouting for England on the basis that they might need some support...what is it with all the misery....its the world cup, its a big deal...

Celebrate, enjoy or at least stop giving out to people who r celebrating

UserX · 03/07/2018 23:11

I get woken up by random children every weekend at 7am.

Are those children swearing? Are they singing racist songs? Are they drink driving? No? Might not really be comparable then.

teenagetantrums · 03/07/2018 23:12

Surely if your child was exhausted they wouldn't have woken up with outside noise. I might be wrong but kids grew up in London there was always noise outside. So many festivals, fireworks and parties if they were tired they didn't wake up. I'm not really into football but a bit off noise before 11pm seems fine to me

ALongHardWinter · 03/07/2018 23:12

I take it that England won then? runs and hides

Nailsshinelikejustice · 03/07/2018 23:12

But surely removing provocation is not the solution to DV? Is it?

How is IT'S COMING HOME a racist song? Be proud of your country.

UserX · 03/07/2018 23:14

It's a new experience, and one they won't get again for many years.

I don’t think England’s inevitable loss is new for anyone and am pretty sure your kids will have many more chances to experience it in their lifetimes.

LemonysSnicket · 03/07/2018 23:15

I don't even like football and I was excited!

I just Googled and it's thought England is thought to be the birthplace of modern football/soccer. That's what "it's going home" is about seemngly

Whilst I think it’s coming home is inane, I agree it’s not racist. Shouting fuck Colombia, however....

I used to be a football hater but I have seen over the last 16 years what an amazingly positive influence it has been on my DS's life and I'm a convert.

Just think of this - just over two years ago you could have been kept awake by people celebrating Brexit. I know which one I prefer.

Maybe I'm you’re neighbour? I was shouting, cheering and said the odd swear word! Shock My windows were wide open. I totally forgot, was far to engaged.

clumsyduck · 03/07/2018 23:19

Football screaming Woke my dc up too.

Not a leg to stand on tho coz it was me screaming .

It's coming home !!!

In fairness I do agree normally op and am also normally very quiet !

coffeeforone · 03/07/2018 23:20

YABU!! It's a one off.

DH and I were both shouting at the TV whilst our toddler slept upstairs. His window was open and neighbours shouting too! He didn't wake up but even if he did...it's a one off!

mumfest · 03/07/2018 23:20

LizB62A · 03/07/2018 23:20

YABU

We won on penalties - that deserves a bank holiday !!!

2up2manydown · 03/07/2018 23:20

What a bunch of misery guts. The same people who start “I hate summer” threads.

Come on, we never win on penalties. Let them have a yell.

ReanimatedSGB · 03/07/2018 23:22

There's nothing I can see to be 'proud' of. Most countries seem to have a percentage of people who are good at chasing, kicking, throwing or catching balls, or running about, or swimming fast, or driving racing cars or riding horses. None of that has anything in particular to do with me, whichever country any of them come from.

Goldmandra · 03/07/2018 23:22

So DV is the World Cups fault?

Not the fault of the individual violent men who commit it?

Looking for the post that said that. I can’t find seem to find it. Could you help, @kissthealderman?

Kismett · 03/07/2018 23:23

I don’t care about football but I can’t imagine being upset at other people having fun tonight, if there’s nothing violent or damaging going on.

ReanimatedSGB · 03/07/2018 23:24

And I can't see what's a 'one off' about it, either. Don't the English football team usually win some of their matches?

ButterChickenwithyellowrice · 03/07/2018 23:24

Sport does not 'unite the country' FFS

Of course it does. For many people it is a pretty depressing time to be English. Success in sport, such as cricket, football or tennis certainly raises morale.
