Yes, I do understand that people are excited about the football, but it’s Tuesday night and my DC, who is completely exhausted, has to get up early for school - the rather scary shouting has just woken her up. Yep, I know someone will say I should move to the middle of nowhere. I would love to - as many people would - but sadly that’s not possible.

I don't follow football at all but loved seeing DH and the DC getting so excited watching it - I hope my neighbours aren't getting as huffy as you lot!

It's once in a blue moon that England get this far - chill out and let people enjoy it - all the drama about little precious DC being asleep does my head in tbh. The world doesn't revolve around children's bedtimes, nor should it.

ThroughThickandThin

YOU'RE WRONG! I thought I was in the clear too but they pushed Love Island back! I'm having to watch it now.... Sad

ShatnersWig · 03/07/2018 22:52

To several previous posters, yes some people at Wimbledon get pissed on Pimms and champagne. What you don't tend to get are crowds of people filling pubs watching tennis on the big screen, getting pissed, shouting, effing and blinding, then spilling out onto the streets and behaving like tossers. Or any violence.

Although I dare say many felt like being violent to Cliff Richard that one year...

I'm not a footy fan but the noise and excitement brought a smile to my face...it's still going on round here, cars honking, people chanting. Love it!

ReanimatedSGB · 03/07/2018 22:53

Wimbledon is just as fucking tedious (and the other thing that people seem to want to bore strangers about) and we have to put up with that every year.

Growingboys · 03/07/2018 22:54

YABU

It's a one off. It's bloody exciting.

TheFirstMrsOsmond · 03/07/2018 22:55

I'm watching the World Cup, enjoyed tonight's match and don't mind the carousing in the streets!

But:

Regarding domestic violence, I believe the statistics are that reported incidents rise by 27% when the home team wins and by 31% when the home team loses.

JacquesHammer · 03/07/2018 22:56

Meh some people on MN want to bore strangers every day Grin

TwitterQueen1 · 03/07/2018 22:56

And since I'm feeling bolshy...
YES my workmen turned up at 7.30am today
YES they started making a noise in the garden at 7.40am (not for very long though)
YES they will do the same tomorrow.
NO I won't apologise. It's so hot and uncomfortable that I think people can put up with this for 3 days during the working week.

I wouldn't worry, if England can't beat Colombia in 90 minutes they're not going much further.
According to DH, who says this is Fact not just Opinion.

bluemoonchances · 03/07/2018 23:02

God there are some miserable people on MN. It's not the middle of the night, get over it!

There was a similar thread after the last England game... was that you too OP ?!

I'm not a football fan but seriously don't mind others getting excited, it's not every night is it?! As other PP have said, I'm sure there have been times your precious angel who might have life changing health issues if they don't get 10 hours sleep one night Hmm has often annoyed the neighbours when crying or playing outside.

TheBigFatMermaid · 03/07/2018 23:03

Sorry I shouted a bit. I am not interested in football, but I am interested in England. I feel the need to cheer them on (while plugged into my laptop on Amazon Prime Video). It all got a bit stressful, so when we won, we all got a bit excited!!

Again, sorry!

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/07/2018 23:03

Be grateful you don’t live near me when my DP is “coaching” Andy Murray. He is the most gentle man other than when sport’s involved, and when we first moved in together and I saw him watch “his” football team on TV I was genuinely gobsmacked - I’d never really heard him shout before.

We’re in Scotland so thankfully he’s not particularly invested in the World Cup.

Lockheart · 03/07/2018 23:04

Yes it’s brilliant that England won (and a huge stroke of luck given they weren’t in all honesty playing a stellar game).

That does not mean antisocial behaviour is ok. I’m very happy England have won, and yet I’m not shouting and swearing in the street or blaring my car horn down the road at 10pm. You can be happy AND have consideration for others.

BeefyCakes · 03/07/2018 23:04

It is just so cringeworthy, all this it's coming home bollocks.

Plus saying things like it unites the country- bollocks it papers over cracks at best.

It's football not some super country healer elixir.

ReanimatedSGB · 03/07/2018 23:05

Sport does not 'unite the country' FFS. Loads of people find it very dull and some are distressed, intimidated or actually harmed when major sporting events are happening (as many PP have said, major sporting events lead to a marked increase in DV - partly because football, in particular, is very much about men. You'd hardly know we have a women's national football team even though I think they have won more world cups than the English men's team.)

TheFirstMrsOsmond · 03/07/2018 23:05

kissthealderman I think you've missed the point which is that the statistics reveal it's nearly as bad whether they win or lose, so it's not anger at losing that's fuelling the violence but something else. Such data is about trying to understand what's going on, not saying whose fault it is

Kelsoooo · 03/07/2018 23:06

I literally poked my DD til she woke up just to tell her we won.

She could have watched it all, but she was falling asleep at half time and asked me to wake her and tell her the score.

Given she's 8, she doesn't understand just how amazing it is, but she'll remember my excitement and the general atmosphere, at home and school.

My youngest DD asked me where the girls were and I promised that as soon as the women play a match we'll watch it

It's a new experience, and one they won't get again for many years.

Just take a moment to be happy. And stop being so miserable.

racingsnail1 · 03/07/2018 23:07

I'm in Scotland, people here are really, really pissed off that England won lol

HairDyedPink · 03/07/2018 23:09

given that children sleep so deeply you shouldn't rely on them being able to hear a fire alarm if it goes off.

unless you knock them out with drugs or alcohol, how can you possibly speak for all the children out there?

Thesearepearls · 03/07/2018 23:09

Granted that a lot of people are tuneless (why can't they be Welsh?) but even given that you wanted to start bellowing, why would you start bellowing that "Football's coming home"

It has no meaning. What, the football accidentally got lost and it suddenly reoriented itself and decided to come home? Is that what it means. Or does it mean that the entire sport has just picked itself up by the bootstraps and decided to relocate? To England? Well maybe

I think the England supporters could do with some coaching from Welsh rugby fans on the matters of (a) singing in tune and (b) singing a tune that has some/any meaning.
