To wish the people screaming outside would shut up?

Yes, I do understand that people are excited about the football, but it’s Tuesday night and my DC, who is completely exhausted, has to get up early for school - the rather scary shouting has just woken her up. Yep, I know someone will say I should move to the middle of nowhere. I would love to - as many people would - but sadly that’s not possible.

There’s still shouting here and we’re in Wales! My DC would have woken half the street the way they shouted after the penalties! We may not be English but we live so close to England we can practically throw a stone across the Bristol Channel to it! Well done England.

Poloshot · 04/07/2018 00:13

Have a day off fgs

WaitrosePigeon · 04/07/2018 00:14

What does it’s coming home actually mean? I don’t get it.

ilovesooty · 04/07/2018 00:14

@IwankaTramp

Either you are on a wind up or you need help to dislodge that poker from your arse.

And the kids were running round playing football and making the most of the long day, when normally they'd have been in bed. Honestly, I can't tell you how nice it was.

psychomath · 04/07/2018 00:30

Sounds lovely Harolds! I could hear my neighbours celebrating too but no-one went outside, I don't think.

Ollivander84 · 04/07/2018 00:34

My city is rather excited...

LadyLance last qualifying stage was 100 times worse as it was on a weekend or a Friday, I'm dreading the next one now!

I used to live next to a football stadium and an emergency hospital so my commotion threshold is fairly high anyway, but there weren't just people shouting, it was the sheer number of emergency vehicles that passed as well, it was absolutely ridiculous.

Not all children are deep sleepers, there's no way in hell my son would sleep through a fire alarm or the racket at the last stage even if he's getting better as he's getting older.

Strangely, it's fairly quiet tonight, there were a few people shouting and there's more traffic, but nobody acting like a twat so I'm not fussed.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/07/2018 00:43

Psychomath yeah it was great. A golden evening.

Dontdrinkdontsmoke haha I'm not even English!

CheekyCapsicum · 04/07/2018 00:43

Every kid I know has been allowed to stay up for this

No kid I know has expressed a desire to stay up for this.

chrisinthesun · 04/07/2018 00:44

@Notcontent

YABU this is magical. First time we have EVER got through on a penalty shoot out at the World Cup!

Those Colombians were awful. Played nasty. Didn't deserve to win. Our lads deserved it 100%.

Well done to them.

ButterChickenwithyellowrice · 04/07/2018 00:58

I bet that Theresa may is jumping for joy hoping that we will all forget about Brexit and not protest about Trump (world cup final weekend)

Clarissa111 · 04/07/2018 00:59

It’s once every 4 years! And 12 since England got so far. I don’t watch football usually, but was screaming at the tv tonight! Let England celebrate something for once!

Plimmy · 04/07/2018 01:02

“Move to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I got on the tube late tonight and sat in a carriage with Colombian fans playing salsa. Both sets of fans dancing and chatting. Lovely atmosphere.

Don’t suppose you get a lot of that sort of thing up there. Where you can hear pins drop.

ButterChickenwithyellowrice · 04/07/2018 01:06

No kid I know has expressed a desire to stay up for this.

Really? I was in 2 primary and 1senior in London today and it was all that they were talking about.

Maybe the children that you know have parents who are miserable minnies

CheekyCapsicum · 04/07/2018 01:10

It’s only once every four years! And we actually won on penalties for once

It's this 'we' thing that irritates me. 'We' didn't do anything. Some bloke in shorts got lucky. Nothing to do with 'we'

MrsFezziwig · 04/07/2018 01:18

@PeakPants just in the interests of accuracy, England did not win the 1966 World Cup on penalties.

WaitrosePigeon · 04/07/2018 01:27

England invented football?

Choccywoccyhooha · 04/07/2018 01:30

Don't worry, it'll all be over by teatime on Saturday for In ger lund.
France will be bringing home the Jules Rimet, as is proper and correct. Allez les Bleus.

19lottie82 · 04/07/2018 01:40

There’s no way England will win the World Cup. I’m quite shocked people seem to think it’s a possibility. They’ve played one decent team so far and lost.

CheekyCapsicum · 04/07/2018 01:45

I would never have a relationship with a fan of football. I have found it a most excellent filter

Completely agree. I think that carries through to friendships and acquaintances. The football mentality is totally alien to me.
Love rugby though. Hate tennis. Bloody boring.
