To wish the people screaming outside would shut up?

Yes, I do understand that people are excited about the football, but it’s Tuesday night and my DC, who is completely exhausted, has to get up early for school - the rather scary shouting has just woken her up. Yep, I know someone will say I should move to the middle of nowhere. I would love to - as many people would - but sadly that’s not possible.

OP posts:

Jeez. The joy vampires are out in force tonight Hmm

Plumsofwrath · 04/07/2018 01:56

Anyway we've just got back in from drinking beers out the front with neighbours

So have we.

and we've just been out there chatting and it's been nice

So have we. Had a barbecue as well.

We hadn't watched any football though because none of us are sufficiently interested in football. We interact with our neighbours because it's a civilised thing to do. Not every 4 years because the football's been on.

CheekyCapsicum · 04/07/2018 01:59

Our lads

Train101 · 04/07/2018 02:06

OP has your child ever made any noise at any hour in the day? Because how dare you because others might be sleeping or working and you will be disturbing them Grin.

Get a grip people are happy and enjoying themselves and having fun and all before 11 o clock where you can expect reasonable quiet.

WorldWideWanderer · 04/07/2018 02:08

Bloody football. Hate it. Yes, I'm a killjoy and no, I don't care.
Didn't realise there was an England match on last but I have now, obviously.
Everyone keeps saying "It's coming home"....likelihood it isn't.
And if it does, does it really matter?
Wish people would get excited about meaningful things, not some bloody lads kicking a ball about, and paid far, far too much to do it....

Train101 · 04/07/2018 02:19

Yes it does matter how well we do.
The better we do the higher he prize money.
The better we do the better it is for the UK economy uk.businessinsider.com/england-world-cup-uk-economy-growth-2018-6 says the bank of England.
It joins communities together.
It encourages participation in sport.

Train101 · 04/07/2018 02:22

And why can't people get excited about how well a national team is doing?
So we can't get excited about any sports competitions as that's just people running, swimming, jumping, hitting a ball etc?
Can't get excited about any performances then as it's just people singing or dancing etc?
Can't get excited about motorsports as it's just people driving a car?

People are excited and happy that our national team are doing well in an international tournament and quite right we should be proud that the people that are representing our country on a world stage are doing well.

10storeylovesong · 04/07/2018 02:52

@peakpants

You are aware that the “superteam” of Germany were going home before the knock out stages... I would imagine that was more than a little embarrassing for them.

QuinnElle · 04/07/2018 02:56

Oh come off it, it wasn't even late, the football was on. We won. Its once in 4 years. Get over yourself and let people enjoy themselves! After 11pm then fair enough but the odd bit of noise before then, every now and then... No issue.

It is most definitely coming home!!

derxa · 04/07/2018 03:54

No kid I know has expressed a desire to stay up for this.
Hmm

derxa · 04/07/2018 03:57

Nailsshinelikejustice · 04/07/2018 05:47

@CheekyCapsicum The filtering works both ways. I would not choose to acquaint myself with a judgemental, snobby, narrow-minded twat who can't understand that people have different passions. Win-win.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 04/07/2018 06:00

If you're Irish @Bahhhhhumbug you should be proud of Harry Kane, he's half-Irish.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 04/07/2018 06:01

sleep deprived driver? It was 10pm!

foxssoxareinthebox · 04/07/2018 06:06

Gold that was my thought exactly last night Sad

foxssoxareinthebox · 04/07/2018 06:09
  • not in relation to me btw (sorry just realised my post makes it sound like that)
shakeyourcaboose · 04/07/2018 06:10

Why is it only football that brings out the gammon-faced yobs though? You've clearly never been to Ascot or Cheltenham for racing l assume?

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 04/07/2018 06:16

Shakeyourcaboose Grin,** absolutely.

UserX · 04/07/2018 06:18

It's been a lovely way to spend time with our neighbours so fuck you OP you joyless wanker.

There you have it folks: England’s attitude. Get aggressive with anyone who disagrees.

Nancydrawn · 04/07/2018 06:22

This is an absolutely ridiculous thread.

Congrats to all the hipsters out there who don't like football because it's beneath them. You are clearly cultivated, worldly, and esoteric. I am very impressed with how much you dislike the sport, and it makes me think very highly of you.

Meanwhile, the rest of us who aren't miserable, pompous, and smug can enjoy a well-earned victory played by a witty, joyful team.

KERALA1 · 04/07/2018 06:22

Fgs. We are not into football dh on his bike making most of empty roads but even we were transfixed by the end.

bellinisurge · 04/07/2018 06:23

I'll take a bit of good news. Even if it is fleeting and a prelude to national disappointment etc etc. Had some shitty news in our house recently. Nice to have a reason to smile.
Sorry you didn't like the noise, op. It'll pass.

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 06:24

Another thread is sunning currently about the funniest things you've heard in mumsnet.

I'm off to say that's it's the comment by @Wheretheresawill1 saying she's got evidence for environmental health to deal with cheering football fans.

That comment alone is just priceless Grin

Can you imagine the conversation?!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/07/2018 06:30

On nights tonight. Had a 15 year old patient who asked very politely if he could wait until after the football to be discharged. Then asked if he could stay for the penalties. Very sweet!
