MUST WEAR BLACK

AIBU?

Hen Party tonight... not even a close friend, one of my friends sisters.

We absolutely must wear all black. Completely black. Not black with a pattern or embellishments or a bloody red stripe. Completely black.

She will "obviously" be wearing white.

She has reminded everyone 7 times this week that we MUST ONLY WEAR BLACK.

AIBU to not go. I don't have any plain black dresses, I could wear jeans and a black top but then I'll look like a flumpy flumperson and I actually think it's completely ridiculous.

Even my gorgeous heels that are black with silver stars on them are not permissible.

AIBU?!?!?!?

Ditto another poster, nip to Sainsos or Tesco and grab a beach dress or kaftan in black and some cheap flip flops

Fickleflock · 30/06/2018 17:01

The thought of wearing black in this heat sounds like torture. The thought of BEING MADE to wear black?! It’s a hen party for Gods sake, not the actual wedding with bride’s maid outfits...although thinking about the bride’s maid outfit I wore once, black would have been preferable Hmm

MollyHuaCha · 30/06/2018 17:07

Wear black? Is it a funeral? Give it a miss!

FrayedHem · 30/06/2018 17:07

Wear your bodycon, but tell the bride it looked plain black in the photos and it must be an optical illusion dress.

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 30/06/2018 17:28

Wear your bodycon and if challenged completely deny having seen any of the messages.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/06/2018 17:54

Is it too late to buy a gimp suit?

LeighaJ · 30/06/2018 17:58

YABU for not owning a little black dress.

YANBU to not go because hen parties are stupid, but I thought stupid themed outfits were the norm but whatev.

sueelleker · 30/06/2018 19:06

Why U not to have a little black dress? Black makes me look sallow, and I don't have a single piece of it in the wardrobe.

Ilovemypantry · 30/06/2018 19:26

Hamandcheesebaguette

So what have you decided then?

Hamandcheesebaguette · 30/06/2018 19:29

Rightio. I found a black bardot top I didn't know existed and a black pencil skirt.

I have rebelled with the shoes and a red belt Grin

If she's consistently reminding you I suspect she's got some kind of surprise in store.

I would buy something black and go, or just say you can't come. You'll sound silly if you say you won't because of the dress code - you could get a black dress in Primark for £12!

Hamandcheesebaguette · 30/06/2018 19:29

I do look like a goth with the Smokey eye and red lipstick as well mind you

come on Baguette girl, whadja decide to do/wear?

lljkk · 30/06/2018 19:32

oops, sorry, xpost! sneak some pics of everyone to share here, I bet you're far from the least in-black subservient guest on this hen-night.

liverbird10 · 30/06/2018 19:36

Go dressed in red from head to toe. Claim you didn't know. Get 100% ratarsed. Wine

MyKingdomForBrie · 30/06/2018 19:41

I think it's mean to wear the belt. Can't get excited about the shoes.

Yes she's being OTT but you're supposedly her friend, either play along or don't go.

CaptainBrickbeard · 30/06/2018 19:42

Why is it mean to wear the belt? If the bride is enough of a control freak to get upset about someone wearing a red belt, I couldn’t be doing with someone like that in my life. It’s deeply pathetic!

liverbird10 · 30/06/2018 19:44

My fella says to go dressed as Mr Blobby.

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 30/06/2018 20:55

Have you been sent home to change OP?

MexicanBob · 30/06/2018 21:31

Can you hire a full Victorian widow's costume - with veil, of course.

Graphista · 30/06/2018 22:26

Bride is being RIDICULOUS! Especially in this heat and at this time of year there's not even much black in the shops!

What has led to brides thinking they can dictate to people like this, obligating them to spend money they don't have or face being excluded from events which are supposed to bring their community together and celebrating friendship? Seems to me brides like this value appearances photos on bloody sm more than their loved ones. People matter more.

Thenightsky - I hope you told her to do one! What was the event?

"You will look like a whiny primadonna" I highly doubt it! The brides already endured they have that title more than covered!

If bride loses her shit over a belt she needs to get a fucking grip!

SimonBridges · 01/07/2018 07:37

I would have not gone.
If she’s this much on a nightmare over a hen do then you’d have been better pissing her off and not being invited to the wedding after all. Imagine what a shit storm that’ll be.

Pengggwn · 01/07/2018 07:40

I'd have no problem with a vague 'black dress' rule, provided I could still wear my nude heels or whatever. It's her hen. I'd just go with it, for a friend.

lljkk · 01/07/2018 07:45

How's the hangover, Baguette?

KirstenRaymonde · 01/07/2018 07:54

Ha ha, just scrolled through Instagram and saw pics of a friend of friends Hen with the Hen in white and everyone else in black Grin Id have thought it was you but I didn’t spot a red belt! That Hen is well known for being a diva bitch too.
