To wonder why the still play Michael Jackson songs?

stellenbosch · 29/06/2018 15:40

What with the #metoo movement and so many actors, entertainers, directors, singers and comedians being (rightly in most cases) shutdown, why do they still play Michael Jackson songs on the radio?

I automatically turn it over. Why does he get a free pass? Because he's dead? I thought though all the allegations were proven? I don't get it?

So what was proven?

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 29/06/2018 15:44

Wasn't he found not guilty?

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 29/06/2018 15:47

It was never proven, it was settled out of court under the condition that MJ was doing so not as an admission of guilt. There was also evidence that the family of the young boy had pursued the case for money and publicity. Additionally testimony given about MJ's genital colouring was found incorrect during a full body search.

To be fair, I don't know if I am 100% correct with the above BUT I never believed it at the time and I was not much older than the boy. I always thought MJ was chosen as he was kind to children and a vulnerable character. If it WAS true then why haven't a dozen more victims popped up since his death.

Disclaimer: I wasn't a fan of MJ but I think his music was very good! I also don't know much about it all.

What is it that he has been proven to be guilty of?

kikashi · 29/06/2018 15:59

I was shocked to see a puff piece for this exhibition:
www.npg.org.uk/exhibition.html

All pictures of Jacko often depicted in famous paintings instead of various kings. Tickets encouraging children to attend. Very strange. R Kelly has never been found guilty either Hmm

Good luck reading through the court transcripts and documents and finding a shred of evidence. Remember, they really went all out tooth and nail to find him guilty.

RunMummyRun68 · 29/06/2018 16:20

Ridiculous!

The heat seems to be melting mumsnetters minds atm!!

lubeybooby · 29/06/2018 16:22

MJ was amazing and I firmly believe he was innocent after doing my own research into it

Deshasafraisy · 29/06/2018 16:24

If anyone was a victim of abuse it was MJ.

GreatGizmos · 29/06/2018 16:28

I think he was framed, I never believed he was guilty. I also think he was killed off.

stellenbosch · 29/06/2018 16:28

I'm not saying any of the stuff SHOULD be banned (I miss Louis C. K. SO MUCH!), I'm just saying I don't get why MJ stuff got a free pass?!

OP posts:
bigknickersbigknockers · 29/06/2018 16:29

not a fan of MJ but he was a talented man and his music is a legacy that should live on

PianoThirty · 29/06/2018 16:30

stellenbosch,

That article is a master-work in juxtaposing perfectly legal activities to convey a false impression of guilt.

“Other books found by police contained images of children nude or in swimwear. There were also multiple porn magazines and videos.”

Each sentence separately is perfectly legal (non-sexual child nudes are legal in the USA); but when you read both sentences together, you get the impression that illegal material was found. That was clearly not the case.

WeeDangerousSpike · 29/06/2018 16:30

OP the article you linked says repeatedly that he was acquitted and that the leaked 'evidence' is a mix of real evidence (from the trial where he was acquitted) and random stuff off the Internet - how does it support your position?

Not a MJ fan particularly, a couple of his songs I enjoy, the rest I can take or leave.

I'm of the opinion he was a very damaged person who probably found kids easier to relate to than adults.

SnapeIsMyHero1 · 29/06/2018 16:32

Because he was found found got guilty in a court of law.

I actually think MJ was probably gay and struggled his whole life as he was bought up a Jehovah Witness and taught it was evil. He was a messed up man no doubt, but I doubt he was a child abuser - more likely someone very vulnerable who was surrounded by yes men and easily exploited.

Aeroflotgirl · 29/06/2018 16:32

I like his music, that's why.

MrsJayy · 29/06/2018 16:34

He wasn't guilty of anything apparently and a "genuis" I don't understand it either but the man is dead so I guess if he was a paedophile it died with him.

WeeDangerousSpike · 29/06/2018 16:34

He didn't get a 'free pass' he was tried and not found guilty.

Was it Cliff Richard that was investigated and nothing found (can't remember who it was) he didn't get a 'free pass' either - he hadn't done anything wrong!

MissionItsPossible · 29/06/2018 16:35

I'm not saying any of the stuff SHOULD be banned (I miss Louis C. K. SO MUCH!), I'm just saying I don't get why MJ stuff got a free pass?!

What do you mean by a 'free pass'? Apart from perhaps Gary Glitter My Gang not being played on radio anymore I can't recall anyone getting a 'free pass'

WanderingTrolley1 · 29/06/2018 16:36

Not guilty.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 29/06/2018 16:37

He didn't get a 'free pass' he was tried and not found guilty.

This.
