Agree with this, it's not unusual for goalkeepers to come out of goal in the last few minutes when their team has no option but to be offensive to stay in the competition. My opinion is that Neuer was too far away being in midfield but oh well.

Expressing Schadenfreude seems a bit previous to me. It's only a matter of time before the inevitable happens and England goes out. They won't win. They won't even get through the first knock-out round.

It is a bit OTT i agree as we all know that England wont win this tournament either - I think that being a bit humble ' we've been in your shoes' might have gone down a bit better - the papers need to get over themselves. Germany's record in the WC is sublime, so much better than England's in any big football tournaments.

People are realistic that we will not win it, Italy and Netherlands won't win it either it, hasn't stopped all my Dutch,Italian, Polish or US friends ripping into our German friends about dropping out in the group stages.

You don't have to think you will win it to have some friendly ribbing at Germany's loss.

so unusual for them to be in this position - its not happened since 1938 or something - most people expect them to make the semis or final - they are a team you don't doubt to do well and win the trophies.
England we doubt every time they play. Thats the difference and i'm not even that keen on football, just past experiences colour my view of them.

hoppingreen, no i can see your point, but I can imagine that German newspapers have had lots of digs in the past over England's very poor record at football - its when the ' bantz' turns really nasty i don;t like it.

England team have a very long way to go still, the press will turn on them soon enough if they crash out. its the nature of football and being England manager must be the worst job in the world as most real fans all turn into armchair pundits and are quick to criticise.
