Yes I'm pleased they are out, mainly because this world Cup has really rejuvenated football. Good to have some younger teams coming through.

But then who is supposed to defend the net?

If the ball doesn't go in your net the other team has won.
If it goes in your net the other team has won.
If it goes in the other team's net, the other team hasn't won.
So the more people there are trying to get it in their net the better.

Remember, 1999 Champions League final Man U v Bayern, Schmeichel legged it up front trying to get something. Then had to leg it back to make sure Bayern didnt score again.

Germany threw what the had at SK. It just wasnt enough.

No one. If your fate depends on scoring a goal and you only have minutes left, to concede one makes no difference in the big scheme of things.

I would have much preferred Germany go through and not England. Anyone but England I take it you're not English? Or are you one of those handwringers that like to say every other nation on earth is great apart from the English?

I am disappointed. I was looking forward to Brazil v Germany. Though pleased for Mexico having gone through.

I can’t speak for the OP but it was current: it had literally just happened. I imagine there’ll be delight if Brazil go out later.

I’m not interested in the tenuous faux-rivalries. I would love an open and exciting tournament with one of the bigger names not winning. Germany going out assists that for sure.

You are trying to dig out something to validate your preconceived ideas, Germany are the current holders (the curse strikes again), every nation is glad they are out as they are one of the favourites. England fans are generally happy because of the amount of times they have beaten us to kick us out of previous tournaments

If you are not a football fan you will not understand it, if you are a fan then you are being deliberately obtuse.

No, most Germans don't see England as being particular rivals. But English fans do see Germany as being a strong rival; that's well known.
