Sorry that post was a bit garbled. Should not post after wine (and when a mossie is trying to get you).

Germany considers the Netherlands to be their main football rivals as far as I know, not England.

BakedBeans47 · 27/06/2018 21:32

I like it when the favourites go out. Makes it more exciting

Amanduh · 27/06/2018 21:33

IT’S COMING HOME!
Or we’ll win the group and get knocked out in the last 16 but.. we take what we can get. Anyone saying the germany rivalry is one sided or racist is just ignorant themselves. It is a MASSIVE rivalry and just as much as utd/city esque! Rivalries don’t tend to be with ‘neighbours’ either. It’s a massive deal for all football fans that Germany are out! The commentators have been measured too. Yes Lineker, Shearer et al say ‘us’ and talk about England a few times, as English fans and ex players they would do the same way they talk about their clubs duringeafye season! There is a lot of discussion and representation of other nations on there too, Keane, Slav, Drogba, Zabaleta etc. They’ve all discussed their own countries (the ones that are in it ha) and said ‘us’ many, many times because they’re talking about their own counties just as the English are! For once nobody has got the ridiculous overhype this year for England and they’ve been discussed well.

DopeyDazy · 27/06/2018 21:42

so delighted they're out. The bastards bombed my grannies house in 1944

clumsyduck · 27/06/2018 21:44

dopey Grin

I'm kinda glad but they lost me my bet so Angry

BMW6 · 27/06/2018 21:44

I am thrilled that Germany is knocked out so ignominiously
Why? Because they are so clinically, ruthlessly efficient. Usually......
EVERYONE loves it when a bighead is taken down a peg or two.

JacquesHammer · 27/06/2018 21:54

I find the one sided rivalry between England and Germany rather tiresome and a bit cringey.

Absolutely.

The80sweregreat · 27/06/2018 21:58

I’m still not over Euro 1996 myself! Best chance of them winning a major tournament in decades ( and reaching a final) and England blew it! Still rankles.

Freshprincess · 27/06/2018 22:04

I’m not happy, I was on for £80’in the work sweep with them.

(Apart from that though, i don’t care that much)

The80sweregreat · 27/06/2018 22:06

The Germans are still in the EU though.

Jorah · 27/06/2018 22:42

Yes, poor them. A double blow.

Dumela · 27/06/2018 22:44

GhostofFrankGrime I do think you need to loosen up, dear Shock

BrewDoggy · 27/06/2018 22:55

They dont play as well as 4 years ago. But it would have been sweeter if they are out because we beat them.

MissEliza · 27/06/2018 22:58

I'm pleased but I'd rather have seen Argentina go out.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 27/06/2018 23:03

Hmm, perhaps, but my experience on MN is that posters are often very unhappy with Scots being pleased about England being knocked out of any sporting event.

So if it’s ok to be pleased about Germany going out, is it ok for Scots to be pleased when England goes out? (Just checking in advance)

As an English MNer, I am absolutely okay with my Scottish sisters taking the piss out of England losing any sporting fixture. Grin Further, any MNers who dislike it should put their big girl pants on.

Actually, that last is a lie. Whenever I'm sad about England's latest humiliating defeat, it cheers me right up to watch my fellow fans on MN wildly over-react to a bit of good-natured taunting from Scottish fans.

siwel123 · 27/06/2018 23:07

What I do love is when Scotland tease us about going out the competition that they didn't qualify for Grin. Brightens my day to know regardless of how bad England did in the world cup at least we did better then Scotland

BakedBeans47 · 27/06/2018 23:12

I’m Scottish but I’ll be delighted if England do well. Why wouldn’t I support a British team?

Jorah · 27/06/2018 23:14

What I do love is when Scotland tease us about going out the competition that they didn't qualify for

yup

ilovesooty · 27/06/2018 23:16

They should have taken Leroy Sane. I still can't believe that they didn't.

MadMags · 27/06/2018 23:19

As long as England don’t win, I’m happy Grin

FlybirdFly · 27/06/2018 23:24

I wanted a England V Germany final!!!

I didn’t know they’d gone out but did hear “there were 10 German bombers in the air” sung very loudly earlier. Haven’t heard that one in a long time

PinkCalluna · 28/06/2018 00:03

Jamie you sound like a good laugh!

siwel to be fair there are 65milluon people in England and only 5 million in Scotland. If you weren’t better than us, it would be really embarrassing. Grin

siwel123 · 28/06/2018 00:17

Now that's a very good point Grin.
But still we're better then you so FootballGrin

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 28/06/2018 01:06

On the subject of small populations, I always felt so sorry for Ryan Giggs in the days of yore. What with Wales' population disadvantage, Wales never managed to compete on the world stage during his hey-day, and he never got to play in the adults' World Cup proper.

Meanwhile, at his day job, practically the rest of his team at Man U were all on their national squads and qualifying for the World Cup and better.

PolkaDotHats · 28/06/2018 01:31

I love it when the underdog wins, enjoyed seeing the fans celebrating Smile
