I always feel sorry for a team when I see them being knocked out, especially if it’s a shock.

Doubt if Germany would commiserate if it was us though tbh.

ZiziJeanmaire · 27/06/2018 17:25

I will cheer for any team who plays well, with skill, passion and commitment.

So yes, I'm glad they are out.

JacquesHammer · 27/06/2018 17:26

Why?

I’m not the OP but for me it’s simply enjoyable to be able to celebrate some of the bigger names going out. It makes for a far more interesting tournament. I will be equally as pleased if Brazil go out later on.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 27/06/2018 17:26

I'm in Germany and sad for the team and everyone here, but quite honestly they're deservedly out. (A PP is right about them not being arrogant, though. Wish the same could be said for the German tabloids. There was a horrible, borderline racist front page in one regional one I spotted today)

I like World Cups with turn-ups for the books.

Cornettoninja · 27/06/2018 17:27

Oh dear, are you also chanting "two world wars and one world cup, do dah, do dah" while owning tattooed knuckles, a bulldog and fine selection of St George's flag bunting

Now that’s offensive. Do cricket and rugby fans get the same stereotyping insults or is that reserved for football fans?

No german I’ve ever known has been devestated at England being knocked out of the World Cup, I’m sure they’re not expecting us to be round with the Kleenex today.

myomy · 27/06/2018 17:31

I was looking forward to watching it later - thanks for the spoiler alert Sad

SandyFagina · 27/06/2018 17:32

Why on earth would you expect a spoiler alert for a sports result?

JacquesHammer · 27/06/2018 17:33

I was looking forward to watching it later - thanks for the spoiler alert

To be fair if you want to avoid scores, I think some onus is on you to avoid social media

Tartyflette · 27/06/2018 17:34

but it is xenophobia... and so very very nasty
But doesn't the whole competition generally descend into xenohpobia easily anyway?....
Germany is the UK's traditional footballing rival so there is likely to be some, er, schadenfreude at its exit. Meh.

Shumpalumpa · 27/06/2018 17:35

There’s a well documented rivalry at the World Cup between our two nations that usually ends up with us on our arse.

I don't think Germans are bothered by the English. They benchmark themselves against the big boys (Brazil, Spain, France).

It's like Scotland caring about England but England not bothering with Scotland.

WallisWindsor · 27/06/2018 17:36

Ivorbig1 Dumb question!

Bugger. They were my work sweepstake bet..... Football

hmcAsWas · 27/06/2018 17:37

Whilst I am not revelling in their defeat - frankly a bit of me think they have won more than their fair share of occasions (4 times?) and as the pundits said, have consistently got beyond the group stage for the last 80 years...so I am quite satisfied that they get to experience the dashed hopes that England has had to shoulder on so many occasions - its seems like a fair rebalancing (whilst at the same time I feel a teeny bit sorry for them - hate to see weeping fans).

Shoxfordian · 27/06/2018 17:39

I'm not happy as my Dad put money on them so I'm sad for him

Cornettoninja · 27/06/2018 17:39

It's like Scotland caring about England but England not bothering with Scotland

100% accurate comparison

hmcAsWas · 27/06/2018 17:39

Jacques - I am also hoping for Brazil to go out. Its good to ring the changes

WallisWindsor · 27/06/2018 17:40

IT'S COMING HOME

I have it on full blast.............. Grin Grin

Absolutely. The next round of matches is looking very interesting

nervousnails · 27/06/2018 17:40

I love this world cup because of these upsets. Makes for a very interesting viewing. My heart goes out to the German fans, though.

Fairenuff · 27/06/2018 17:41

Can anyone explain to me why the goal keeper wasn't in goal? Confused

nervousnails · 27/06/2018 17:41

"IT'S COMING HOME"

Unlikely.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 27/06/2018 17:42

I've got a mental image of Jurgen Klopp and his bessie David Wagner crying into their steins right now.

JacquesHammer · 27/06/2018 17:43

Can anyone explain to me why the goal keeper wasn't in goal?

Playing as an extra out field player.

Haffiana · 27/06/2018 17:44

I do hope your comments are not racist!

Fuck off.

ravenmum · 27/06/2018 17:44

Funny how people go on about the word "schadenfreude" being German, saying that is very telling about the German character.
