We could have another upset tonight, Brazi and Switzerland are on 4 point, Serbia on 3.

Cornettoninja · 27/06/2018 17:46

It’s the nature of the tournament though, only one team gets to be chuffed at the end of it all.

I do hope that nice Korean fella has an ice pack on his balls. He paid for that win with his testicles ShockGrin

PinkCalluna · 27/06/2018 17:47

Isn't it just a long standing sporting rivalry?

Hmm, perhaps, but my experience on MN is that posters are often very unhappy with Scots being pleased about England being knocked out of any sporting event.

So if it’s ok to be pleased about Germany going out, is it ok for Scots to be pleased when England goes out? (Just checking in advance)

BigChocFrenzy · 27/06/2018 17:49

The Germans don't celebrate when England has gone out early in the past
Probably because it happens so often !

petrolpump28 · 27/06/2018 17:49

hilarious!!!b had 5 live on in the car and it was such a load of nonsense, predicting huge amount of goals for Germany, like the other team was a joke.

BringMeTea · 27/06/2018 17:51

Yay for S. Korea! What a year it's turning into for them.

nervousnails · 27/06/2018 17:53

Grin Comment of the day!

If people were being insulting about Germans /Germany then yes, that could be classed as xenophobia. The OP has not suggested anything of the sort and neither have they given any suggestion of being overtly nationalist so why they are immediately judged in that context is baffling. Germany are a traditionally strong footballing nation. The fact that they are out does, in theory, have the potential to provide England with a better chance of winning the world cup so that will be seen as a good thing by some England fans.

siwel123 · 27/06/2018 17:55

Yanbu. Glad they're out, they have played rubbish and don't really deserve to go through to the next stage.

It's not racist to be glad a big rival of ours is out. And yes Scotland can be happy if England go out, but hey England can be happy scotland didn't even qualify Grin

between4and7 · 27/06/2018 17:55

I'm thrilled GrinGrinGrin
We now won't go out on penalties to them

Justanotherlurker · 27/06/2018 17:56

Pretty much every other nation is happy that Germany is out, Brazil are laughing after the 7-1 drumming they had. Spain, Sweden, Poland are all laughing at Germany, thats before we get onto Italy, France and us.

Its a nice upset and no one really expected it.

Just adds to the current world cup status of: "It's coming home "

Mulberry72 · 27/06/2018 17:56

No idea what Manuel Neuer was doing, completely his fault that second Korea goal.

WallisWindsor · 27/06/2018 17:56

I do hope your comments are not racist!

Are you fucking kidding me?
What meds are you on? Crazy person. Angry

pinkcanulla of course Scots can be pleased when England are (inevitably) knocked out. Just don’t be surprised if it isn’t well received on a predominantly English forum....

Never nice to poke the loser which is why I’m not posting on a German forum.

ravenmum · 27/06/2018 18:00

Considering Germany's poor performance this time, England would probably have had a better chance of winning if they'd stayed in!

TinkyWinky40 · 27/06/2018 18:00

I was rooting for Germany.

The World Cup will not be the same but this year without the Italians and Dutch it just feels odd.

Hoppinggreen · 27/06/2018 18:01

Well my DH isn’t happy ( German)
I’m not saying that OP is being racist or similar but people do make comments that they wouldn’t make if DH wasn’t white
Remember a SUN headline quite a few world cups ago? “Bash The Bosch” there would have been (quite rightly) outrage if there had been a similar reference to a largely non white nations team
Having said that they did play badly and desserve to go out, base son their playing though NOT based on being German

swimmerlab · 27/06/2018 18:02

The fact that we cannot now lose to Germany on penalties is, of course, reason for celebration!

I was so pleased for the South Koreans, they had been pretty much written off before the match.

Come on England!

mzsink · 27/06/2018 18:02

I would have much preferred Germany go through and not England. Anyone but England

LighthouseSouth · 27/06/2018 18:03

I can't find the World Cup thread

if we (England) lose tomorrow, do we still have a chance of getting through?

stevie69 · 27/06/2018 18:04

Any need? There’s a well documented rivalry at the World Cup between our two nations that usually ends up with us on our arse. Of course a football fan is going to be pleased that scenario is off the table

Precisely this Smile

user1471453601 · 27/06/2018 18:04

It's the way of the world cup. A country, in this case Germany, has a winning squad. That squad is usually aged between24 and 32. The manager is reluctant to change a winning squad, so ends up with player in the 28 to 36 age group. That's too old in football terms.

Germany will be back with a vegence, possibly in the euros in two years time, but most probably in the next world cup in 2012.

letstalk2000 · 27/06/2018 18:04

It is not racist in the least to have a bit of a chuckle when the Germans go out ! Secondly the rivalry between England and Germany is nothing like the rivalry between Scotland and England.

England and Germany will always be a massive game for both countries with both teams having a realistic chance against each other (even a friendly will be serious). Scotland will always be a 'small' footballing country, who have not qualified for a tournament since 1996 therefore no comparison . Though Scotland should have done well in both the 1974/78 World Cups .

However, I don't think Scotland will ever get back to those heights.

England by comparison are outstanding at under 17/19 and 20 levels wining the both the under 17/19 World Cups.

I also think this success is starting to trickle over to the first team. The outstanding youngsters will be served well by playing consistently. This being the Championship rather than as piecemeal players in the Premier league !

We're already through. It's all good Grin

I’m quite sure there’s a good number of German/part German/German residents on MN Cornetto you don’t think it might be rather unsporting to be relishing their defeat with so much glee?

Is MN “predominantly English”? I wonder what the stats are on that?
