To hate this English Summer and the boiling hot weather we’re having?

It’s so hot! Appallingly so. I am in the lightest of t shirts and yet still sweating. I love the sun on holiday but hate it in this country, it seems more a blistering kind of heat, disgustingly so. Hope the summer ends very soon! Bring back Autumn/Winter!!

NC because people display negativity to those that dare say they hate the sun

I don't cope well with the heat so do sympathise, but would rather have this hot weather than the grey we had for months on end.

I also feel that weird superstitiousness that complaiinng about the heat will make it go away! Its weird, as I am not superstitious about anything else. But I did get very down with the continuous greyness.

We have breeze here so that helps. but I'm stuck indoors anyway. Boo

Lizzie48 · 24/06/2018 14:02

That's true, @PolkerrisBeach I've worked in Africa in the past! Consequently, I never burn in this country. If it weren't for my hot flushes, I would find this temperature as just right. Smile

Dobbythesockelf · 24/06/2018 14:07

I quite like autumn and winter but I understand other people don't, however I don't jump down their throats telling them that they are wrong to hate it. I have been told by 2 people today i should embrace the weather etc. Normally I would be ok at this temperature but like I said I'm 40 weeks pregnant and not coping at all, I am miserable and being told that I'm being ungrateful or a baby does not help matters. Everyone is different and copes differently.

BarbedBloom · 24/06/2018 14:07

I love the winter and cold, but am enjoying a bit of sun at the moment. However I am dreading it getting to 27/28 here as is forecast this week as that is way too hot for me.

Aragog · 24/06/2018 14:08

BBC app says its 21 here. It's not, it's much warmer than that, especially out of the shade in my garden. I am currently, shade hunting and have to keep moving my sun bed.

It's going to get warmer the rest of the week. Pity I'll be at work. The computer room at school, where I spend most of my time, will be unbearable at times!

I much prefer warm and hot weather though. My arthritis plays up far less. So long as I have shade, sunglasses and a hat I'm fine.

Mind you, my tendency to drink alcohol seems to increase with the heat which is less good, lol!

Aragog · 24/06/2018 14:12

Thing is, we get so little of the sun and heat in thenUK usually. So yes, I will revel in the sun we do get and enjoy it.

We get a lot more cold, grey and wet days than we do these days, and we seemed to have soooo much snow this winter too.

Winter for me equals pain and discomfort, way more than in the summer.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 24/06/2018 14:13

I think I would prefer this weather much more if I had air conditioning in my bedroom, that's what I dread about summer, my bedroom is always so stuffy. We're not really set up for hot weather in this country as we have so little of it, so there's no reprieve, whereas in actually hot places like Australia, there is air con everywhere

AlonsoTigerHeart · 24/06/2018 14:16

Wow people get really angry at people who don't like heat....

jainaproudm · 24/06/2018 14:20

But that's the thing, @polkerrisbeach - you think it's preferable.

I'd rather it was dark at 4pm and crispy cold and raining any day.

Maybe I should start going round to people moaning about winter going, "stop whining it's not even that cold, it gets PROPERLY cold in Norway, just enjoy this cold weather and stop being a big baby..." 😂

specialsubject · 24/06/2018 14:22

problem is not the weather, it is buildings designed by fools. there should be no need for aircon in the uk if architects thought about science. heres to my old house.

being pregnant probably no fun though!

ilovesooty · 24/06/2018 14:25

I can only assume people who like it being dark at 4pm don't have to commute by car in the rush hour.

Mogleflop · 24/06/2018 14:30

Yy Alonso. Best thing to do is just enjoy their ridiculous behaviour, or you end up getting angry and (ironically) hotter than before.

However I am a bit confused by that one; I love dark evenings and also drive every day to and from work in rush hours - why would commuting make them worse? Confused

SadieHH · 24/06/2018 14:32

I commuted by car in the rush hour for years and adore dark evenings. Don't assume anything about anybody.

PolkerrisBeach · 24/06/2018 14:34

I think if you took a straw poll of 1000 people and them to choose between a bright, sunny day in June where it's light to 9pm and a cold, wet day in December when it's dark by 4pm, 999 would go for June.

Living in Scotland I feel the dark days of winter have a real impact on my mood - and the mood of everyone else too. In winter everyone's rushing to get home, hiding in their houses and wrapped up and plans are constantly cancelled because it's too wet or cold.

In summer you can go out for a walk after dinner, sit outside to have a coffee and get all that Vit D on your skin - it's amazing. We get precious little of it and after the Beast from the East in the first week of Mrch which saw us snowed in for almost a week, the sunshine and warmth is very, very welcome.

SadieHH · 24/06/2018 14:42

Why does it have to be a choice between sunny or raining? It doesn't rain all winter and by MN logic, if it doesn't rain for me then it doesn't rain for anyone else either.

jainaproudm · 24/06/2018 14:42

I get that more people prefer summertime and that's (obviously) fine. But the weird kneejerk need of the sun lovers to tell us winter lot that we're miserable abnormal weirdos is just a bit odd. I hope you all enjoy your summer months and I will personally be looking forward to being able to wear a jumper and go for a run without sweating my entire body weight.

Daddystepdaddy · 24/06/2018 14:44

Humidity is important to how you feel heat. The UK is a reasonably humid place compared to many favourite holiday destinations in Europe.

jainaproudm · 24/06/2018 14:44

Oh and fwiw commuting in the dark is way nicer to me. In the morning it feels like the world isn't awake yet so it's like having my own little bubble in my car (and can enjoy a brew instead of needing ice cold water and the air con drying my skin out). And on the way home I just think about getting back to my nice cosy house and seeing all the lights on in other people's windows is nice :)

GinGeum · 24/06/2018 14:45

Please don’t all wish for rain, the Farm is so happy at the moment and the last two harvests have been a complete wash out. Just let this weather continue until September, and then you can have cold, wet, dreary days all the way until April if you wish Wink

whinetime89 · 24/06/2018 14:46

As an Aussie, when I lived in the UK I would giggle that every one would whip out the bikinis in 22 degreesGrin
Come to Australia in summer.... that will really get you complaining! (I love the heat!)

Mogleflop · 24/06/2018 14:46

Interestingly, I'd actually love to run a good poll and get great data.

I always wonder if people really truly enjoy hot weather as much as they say they do, especially when it's so taboo to say otherwise. People get so aggressive in hot weather, it must do something.

Taking a random 1000 people, and pretending you could make it representative - if you assume that maybe it's people with sensory or other differences like ASD (bit of a jump but not the worst one), then I think it could be closer to 1% or around there. So it might be more like 10-20 people. Then maybe a few who just like darker weather, colder days, or have other reasons, like they fucking hate June for no reason at all. Some who are trolling or choose the wrong option. So what, maybe 50, 100 out of a 1000? Way fewer or way more based on who's answering?

But then ultimately - so what? Even if the demonstrable majority loved heatwaves - it doesn't mean the 1, 10, 50, 100, or whatever wouldn't be able to say "fuck me I hate this".

If anything the relative isolation of feeling alone can make it worse, making it even more helpful to share with fellow sufferers where possible.

It is that weird thing though isn't it? Us saying "I hate hot weather" makes others go "Shhhh! The sun gods will hear you!" Grin

Mogleflop · 24/06/2018 14:47

Also I'm shite at maths, as you may be able to guess Grin

SadieHH · 24/06/2018 14:47

The only two reasons I'll allow good weather are for farmers and a couple of friends of mine who have brittle bones and suffer badly in the cold weather.

Wink
MistyReturns · 24/06/2018 14:48

I personally am in heaven. Sun & heat make me very very happy. I have various chronic conditions, one of them being vitamin d deficient so the sun helps. But I don’t think you’re unreasonable, I can’t tolerate the snow or severe cold so I understand where you are coming from.
I could do without the hay fever which has re-appeared aftera 13 year break Confused

LapdanceShoeshine · 24/06/2018 14:49

There are less than 3 months of hot sunny days in this country

Grin Grin Grin

A lot less than 3 months north of Watford Gap! Last year we only had a (literal) handful of hot sunny days all summer (it was a very bad summer admittedly) - never even felt insopired to have a BBQ.

We are loving this year's weather so far - most of May & a lot of June being beautiful, & none of it humid & sticky so far. It's been like 5 years of summer in one year!
