School leavers hoodie is wrong

Namechangedforthispost18 · 21/06/2018 12:00

We ordered a school leavers hoodie for our dd, at a cost of nearly £20.
The PTA were in charge all proceeds going to the school, we recently changed DD surname however old surnames is now a middle name.

So we asked for previous surname and new one to be on it so the kids in class would know who it was and it would have the new surname we legally have to use on too.

The front has the initials on and is correct, both surnames.

The back is completely wrong.

They've left out punctuation within her name, and it only includes her old surname.

The school are claiming it is the PTA's fault, PTA are claiming it is a data protection issue (although it was handed from 1 person to the next to another) and that they couldn't clarify names however we confirmed it via facebook and have screenshots, we are not the only one to have a child with an incorrect name on the hoodie.

The pta and school are refusing to recall the hoodies or communicate with us or update us. Yet they've updated another parent and told them the wrong name will be scraped off and the right one stuck on top (it will look shit).

AIBU to expect all hoodies to be recalled and corrected? Her friends will have the wrong name on.

Also we the leavers are wearing theirs but the children without correct named hoodies have had them taken and are left out. This is causing other kids to laugh at these pupils.
The pta member who royally f up, her child is blaming the parents for giving her mother the wrong spellings etc and is intimidating the kids.

The school arent touching the issue with a barge pole.

Do I have rights as a consumer?

Really you are making a mountain out of a molehill. Wanting all the shirts recalled is just absurd. Slightly annoying to not have the new name on both front and back - but surely all the kids know her by the old name anyway.

Doing end of year T-shirts/hoodies is a thankless task and the PTA are volunteers. It is an end of term novelty item. At my kid's high schools they had to arrange it themselves - DD was the organiser for her class and it was a huge pain in the butt to liaise with the printer and chase classmates for money. In a few months it will be at the back of the wardrobe and never worn.

SingingSands · 21/06/2018 12:28

It’s such a non-issue though isn’t it? I mean, who really reads the names? By September the hoodies will have been relegated to the bottom of the wardrobe, never to surface again.

I’d just shrug it off and move on!

I paid £30 for a year 6 leavers hoodie and leavers t shirt. DSs name is spelt wrong on the front and back of both! To be honest, we just laughed at the mistake, what can you do? He will wear it once, on the last day of term.

At the end of the day I didn't take on the responsibility to sort out and compile the orders/chase money etc, I also didn't arrange the year 6 leavers outing so, based on that, I can't really complain. These parents volunteer their own time and I am grateful that he got anything at all, with very little effort on my part.

Hillarious · 21/06/2018 12:31

Does your DD want the hoodie or not?

No-one ever really looks at these names - the exception being when I row, so am on occasion sitting in a boat behind someone in a leavers' t-shirt and I spend the next two hours staring at their back. I spotted about 15 minutes into the outing that her sixth form was small and they'd had to repeat the names four times to fill out the artwork sufficiently.

FannyFaceAche · 21/06/2018 12:31

Sorry, babies and disabled children are being torn from their parents at the border of America - they're desperately seeking a new life away from the threat of violence and you're bitching about a typo on a jumper. Piss off. Plus the PTA are volunteers. It's a whoops. That's it. No refund, no return.

who can tell I've had a shite day

KittiesInsane · 21/06/2018 12:31

Mine do, Barbarian, but as DD sagely says, 'Length of hoodie use is directly related to length of time spent outdoors getting mucky'.

There's a 2013 one still in circulation here but I don't think much of it is still legible. It gets worn for gardening, camping and sleepovers.

shinycat · 21/06/2018 12:31

You can ask for your daughter to have a new one made with her name put on there correctly, but you can't possibly expect them to recall ALL of them.

PrivateDoor · 21/06/2018 12:31

OP have they actually spoken to the printers do you know? If they use them every year maybe they would provide another at a reasonable cost? Though my understanding is that the large bulk of the cost is the actual designing of the logo which I suppose will need changed a fair bit to fit both names on. So it would probably be a fortune even just to get one corrected Sad

lalahotpants · 21/06/2018 12:31

My DDs leavers hoodie has school logo on the front and all the kids names on the back inside the 18 with a name of their choosing along the top, this is her's!

School leavers hoodie is wrong
Takethemdown · 21/06/2018 12:33

God what a massive drama over nothing.
I can't believe you originally wanted them to recall and replace all the hoodies tali v hundreds of pounds from money that could be used on books and trips or resources for school.

Is it annoying yes. But seriously let it go.
They will be on the bottom of the wardrobe in a month.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 21/06/2018 12:33

Honestly you need to get a grip!

Namechangedforthispost18 · 21/06/2018 12:35

Why would parents be thankful when they are wrong?

Other parents aren't happy that their Childs close friends name is wrong. One child's name is completely wrong and they've been told the same as us.

Dd avoided using her old surname, as her father was violent towards her, years of counselling via the school. They know the issues she has and yet they still can't see why she is upset.

It doesn't bother me, names were only changed at my dc requests.

This is primary school.

I'm going to suggest to dd we sack off the hoodie and don't bother.

We have also been told by the school the school nor the PTA are involved and the list of names were given to a parent, and it is they who ordered them! So much for data protection!!

These things are a waste of time money and resources.
Kids feel they have to have one or be left out.

End up dumped because they are only good for a week of term.

Takethemdown · 21/06/2018 12:36

at a cost of
Stupid autocorrect just as I posted Ffs.

Lala my kids secondary school do that. They all have weird nicknames on Hmm
Grin

clairethewitch70 · 21/06/2018 12:37

From a Printers point of view (not t-shirts), doing just one hoody will cost way more than printing a large order - individual set ups etc. The school may have been told the cost by the Printer, which may be more than they charged you which is why they are not redoing it.

Serendipityme · 21/06/2018 12:37

I can imagine it has been frustrating and a little upsetting but honestly these things do take forever to organise and it's a genuine mistake not a malicious act. I would advise you to suck it up, keep the one she's been given and save your energy for the fun and games that come when they get older!!!

Quickerthanavicar · 21/06/2018 12:38

Primary school , oh my goodness, she'll grow out fo it in a few months.

NoSquirrels · 21/06/2018 12:39

Express your disappointment by all means - suggest the PTA have a different process next time. Printing companies usually provide a “proof” via email to check - would cost them nothing to whack that on a FB page and ask individual parents to check it before the order gets printed.

If your DD’s name is on the front right, just ignore the fuck up in the back.

Ask for a discount.

It’s annoying but it’s only annoying- don’t make a drama.

clairethewitch70 · 21/06/2018 12:40

Just thinking of school names lists, we print calendars with class drawings/photos etc. Usually given a file of names from the school. When laying up pages we noticed a child named Poopy, the school had mistyped Poppy.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 21/06/2018 12:40

What are you talking about legally have to use a name on a hoody? Also names don't have punctuation.

Takethemdown · 21/06/2018 12:40

I'm in a similar situation name wise. My kids top has the name of her father on which she doesn't want. It's upsetting of course. Just don't take the hoodie. They don't wear them anyway unless it's for a specific day.

'Other parents aren't happy that their Childs close friends name is wrong'

Other parents won't care what name is on a hoodie if it isn't their child.

AForegoneConclusion · 21/06/2018 12:42

Just don't have one then? Go and buy one she wants for £20 that she will actually wear beyond one day. If she wants, get it printed with her mates names on. Such drama! She won't give a shit about it beyond the last day, and she will have forgotten who half the people are on it in a year or so.

NoSquirrels · 21/06/2018 12:42

We have also been told by the school the school nor the PTA are involved and the list of names were given to a parent, and it is they who ordered them! So much for data protection!!

I don’t quite understand- how did you sign up & pay? If it’s not PTA or school, you must have known that already.

Honest mistakes happen. Preventing them for next time is all you can do - sucks for you, but there it is.
