School leavers hoodie is wrong

Namechangedforthispost18 · 21/06/2018 12:00

We ordered a school leavers hoodie for our dd, at a cost of nearly £20.
The PTA were in charge all proceeds going to the school, we recently changed DD surname however old surnames is now a middle name.

So we asked for previous surname and new one to be on it so the kids in class would know who it was and it would have the new surname we legally have to use on too.

The front has the initials on and is correct, both surnames.

The back is completely wrong.

They've left out punctuation within her name, and it only includes her old surname.

The school are claiming it is the PTA's fault, PTA are claiming it is a data protection issue (although it was handed from 1 person to the next to another) and that they couldn't clarify names however we confirmed it via facebook and have screenshots, we are not the only one to have a child with an incorrect name on the hoodie.

The pta and school are refusing to recall the hoodies or communicate with us or update us. Yet they've updated another parent and told them the wrong name will be scraped off and the right one stuck on top (it will look shit).

AIBU to expect all hoodies to be recalled and corrected? Her friends will have the wrong name on.

Also we the leavers are wearing theirs but the children without correct named hoodies have had them taken and are left out. This is causing other kids to laugh at these pupils.
The pta member who royally f up, her child is blaming the parents for giving her mother the wrong spellings etc and is intimidating the kids.

The school arent touching the issue with a barge pole.

Do I have rights as a consumer?

School have said accept incorrect hoodie or a refund and no hoodie.
That isn't good enough.

Tell them you'd like a refund AND to keep the hoodie.

Tell DD "here's £20 to spend on something - what shall we do with it?" Maybe get her something else personalised, bet she'll have an idea.

KanyeWesticle · 21/06/2018 13:29

It's a shame, but it's just a mistake. Leave it up to your daughter, let her wear it if she wants or return it if not.

You could even buy a personalised (non-school-leavers) hoody elsewhere.

You've been offered to keep it, or get a refund. That's fair enough I think.

Glaciferous · 21/06/2018 13:29

There is no point in you returning the hoodie if you ask for a refund. Who else are they going to sell it to?!

Underparmummy · 21/06/2018 13:30

You should have organised the hoodies then as a PTA volunteer.

WellAndTrulyCurbed · 21/06/2018 13:30

That isn't good enough

They've offered you a refund. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. All this talk about intimidating children and mocking children sounds a bit ridiculous though, to be fair, the whole thing sounds ridiculous.

Why did you post OP? You've not really listened to a single poster.

Waitingonasmiley42 · 21/06/2018 13:32

Wow. It’s a fuking hoodie. Confused

The school have a million and one other things to be dealing with rather than a lunatic ranting about a jumper.

RavenWings · 21/06/2018 13:32

Why did you post OP? You've not really listened to a single poster.

It's the classic "tell me I'm right" drama llama. All this over a hoody, god forbid there were actual problems to deal with.

otterturk · 21/06/2018 13:34

Does it really matter)

purplegreen99 · 21/06/2018 13:35

Yes, I think YABU . Why not just take the attitude of 'never mind, these things happen, everyone knows who you are' which should minimise the impact on your dd. Who do you expect to fund a recall and reprint? It would come out of PTA funds which would otherwise be spent on school activities, equipment, etc. It just seems really OTT for something that will only be worn for a few months, and could end up souring what should be a happy last couple of weeks at school, not just for your family but the other children and the staff and volunteers who have worked hard on all the leavers' activities.

purplegreen99 · 21/06/2018 13:36

Didn't notice there were already 6 pages when I posted that -ignore it as probably already been said 100 times.

ElMarineroBaila · 21/06/2018 13:38

What a load of shit. This is so unbelievably trivial.

Foslady · 21/06/2018 13:40

I feel for your school secretary.....

Dd went on a trip with 60 pupils on it. Her name was spelt wrong along with one or two others (the printers used the draft and not the final). The poor teacher was beside herself with worry.
Dd and I didn’t care, who the hell looks that close? No way was I wasting a cash strapped school to replace it - at the end of the day it’s a functional piece of clothing, it would have been terribly wasteful to ask for a replacement.
Maybe you should volunteer to type up the names next year?

WellAndTrulyCurbed · 21/06/2018 13:41

Push hard enough OP and you'll fuck it up for next years kids. Who'll want to volunteer their time after this? Sad

AForegoneConclusion · 21/06/2018 13:43

If I was the headteacher I would lock myself in my office over this lunacy too. It is a fucking jumper. One you don't have to pay for. Can you imagine trying to do your job of running a school and having a group of parents battering on your door daily demanding answers about a bloody hoodie and having to police a he said/she said row between the PTA and parents. Pathetic.
Why don't you and the other parents who have their knickers in a twist over this get together and order a reprint of the number you want for your kids and pay the printer directly for these. School don't get the money so you get the satisfaction of that and the kids are happy.

StarUtopia · 21/06/2018 13:44

I had my name spelt incorrectly on my graduation (yes, uni) ceremony and certificate. Did I make a fuss? No, Did I fuck. I did actually at a later date ask that they redid the certificate as I needed it for job applications.

But these things happen. A year 6 hoody is neither here nor there. It's annoying but you're seriously expecting the company to redo a one off one just for you??!

You seriously need to get some bigger issues to worry about in your life.

MarthasGinYard · 21/06/2018 13:45

DM sad hoodie face coming up.

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2018 13:46

"Also names don't have punctuation."
O'connor?

bridgetreilly · 21/06/2018 13:47

So here's where you have a point: no children should be mocking or intimidating others. Teachers should be cracking down on that, absolutely.

Here's where you have no point: everything else.

HTH

getoffthathistoricrelic · 21/06/2018 13:47

I can’t imagine why people would be avoiding you

RolyRocks · 21/06/2018 13:51

OP, I have a really easy fix for you.

You say the front of her hoodie is absolutely fine.

How about you buy a picture frame.

Put the front of the hoodie in it and display on a wall or drawer for sentimental purposes.

Problem solved.

Loonoon · 21/06/2018 13:51

The lettering on the back is usually tiny. I’d take the hoody and get over it.

FloralCup · 21/06/2018 13:52

Can you give us made example of the names that are wrong?

catinasplashofsunshine · 21/06/2018 13:52

How long is her name Namechange ? If it contains punctuation and now two surnames is she something like Lucinda-Clarabellle Worthington Smythe or Lacy-Mae James O'Brian?

Perhaps there were just too many characters for the printers

Chapterandverse · 21/06/2018 13:53

One of my dd's teachers called her twice or three times by a classmates name.

Say her name is Ellie (it's not) but the teacher called her Amalie.

It stuck among her friends.... when she left last week after her final GCSE she had a lot of messages scrawled on her shirt "bye Amalie" "Amalie rocks" etc.... and if there were such thing as a hoody I can TOTALLY see her asking for Amalie on it!!

Guess it's horses for courses.

Plus Grin at 10" quiche Grin

StealthPolarBear · 21/06/2018 13:54

I don't get the 10" quiche joke!
