School leavers hoodie is wrong

Namechangedforthispost18 · 21/06/2018 12:00

We ordered a school leavers hoodie for our dd, at a cost of nearly £20.
The PTA were in charge all proceeds going to the school, we recently changed DD surname however old surnames is now a middle name.

So we asked for previous surname and new one to be on it so the kids in class would know who it was and it would have the new surname we legally have to use on too.

The front has the initials on and is correct, both surnames.

The back is completely wrong.

They've left out punctuation within her name, and it only includes her old surname.

The school are claiming it is the PTA's fault, PTA are claiming it is a data protection issue (although it was handed from 1 person to the next to another) and that they couldn't clarify names however we confirmed it via facebook and have screenshots, we are not the only one to have a child with an incorrect name on the hoodie.

The pta and school are refusing to recall the hoodies or communicate with us or update us. Yet they've updated another parent and told them the wrong name will be scraped off and the right one stuck on top (it will look shit).

AIBU to expect all hoodies to be recalled and corrected? Her friends will have the wrong name on.

Also we the leavers are wearing theirs but the children without correct named hoodies have had them taken and are left out. This is causing other kids to laugh at these pupils.
The pta member who royally f up, her child is blaming the parents for giving her mother the wrong spellings etc and is intimidating the kids.

The school arent touching the issue with a barge pole.

Do I have rights as a consumer?

IrmaFayLear the OP said at 2pm yesterday 'Doesn't matter now, we will get a refund and that is the end of it.'

Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Namechangedforthispost18 · 22/06/2018 10:22

I never said it did I said that I couldn't use my fingers properly to correct my spellings.

@annperkins

Thanks, the responses have been harsh especially the ones about data protection because they haven't read my posts properly or understood I was taking the piss or the ones saying I am BU for wanting them all recalled when I already said I didn't want that nor did I even think about what I said and I only thought it in the moment of typing the post.

WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE HOODIE!!!!!

So can people stop going on about it

But you made an entire post about it. People are responding. You can't then just shut them up because you're ready. Hmm

Kattyy · 22/06/2018 17:48

Ds was ill the day leavers' hoodies were given out and his went walkabouts. Was 2 yrs ago... I'm still ticked off!

Oh OP, you walked right in to that one

Kattyy · 22/06/2018 17:51

Actually thinking of it now- he may have grown out of it by now Grin so maybe time to let it go Grin

Nerdybeethoven · 22/06/2018 17:54

Tbh this will have been a massive ball ache for the poor volunteer. The woman doing ours has clearly been regretting it. School data protection issues have meant that the school can't give out the names. Some parents are awful at replying and returning slips / money. Just let it go. You'll look back and chuckle about it in years to come. My son decided to call himself by a competely different shortened version of his name for some reason so nobody will know who it is (first names only). I am just past caring!

Wrongintherightway · 22/06/2018 18:01

I was responsible for the ordering of the leavers hoodies and yes I made a spelling mistake in one of the names and the parents were absolutely fine about it, the company we used kindly provided a replacement for postage cost only with correct spelling so everyone happy. It’s totally unreasonable to expect to reprint all hoodies and at £20 the school are not making money on these

Caribbeanyesplease · 22/06/2018 18:14

A replacement for ALL the jumpers or just the one child?

Leavers' hoodies are lovely and it is important to get the name right.

My dd is in Year 6, they have just got their leavers' hoodies. They were ordered through school and they sized each child. I think the cost was included in the cost of their residential trip.

All 90 children in the year got their hoodies and all with correct name on as far as I know Smile Apparently they live in them on their residential trip.

viques · 22/06/2018 18:36

Why do schools do these ridiculous over the top hoody things? We used to buy a job lot of decent autograph books, print off and stick a fancy label in the front and let the kids loose getting as many autographs as they could ( with the proviso that If they wrote something nasty in some ones book their own would be taken back - never happened though) Cheap and cheerful, they all had a memento it didn't cost a lot, and no one got missed off or mis spelled.

NonnoMum · 22/06/2018 18:54

They won't be wearing them after about mid-August...
They'll be in the cupboard of doom under the stairs with the skateboards and sleds... Oh, and unlatching gloves...

Dancergirl · 22/06/2018 18:56

viques we also had autograph books at school but times have changed! Move on!

mummytippy · 22/06/2018 19:17

We just used to sign each others school shirts

viques · 22/06/2018 19:18

times have changed Have they Dancergirl? So now all the memories of seven years of primary school childhood can be crammed onto a cheap but surprisingly expensive hoodie that you will grow out of in six weeks.

How sad , our kids used to collect the names and signatures of all the children in their year group plus all the staff in the school, their old teachers, their TAs , the midday assistants, the music teachers, the school cooks, the caretaker, the lollipop lady, the football coaches, the after school staff, the head and deputies, they often had little memories of them written in, "keep on with your singing" , "thank you for making me laugh in the school play" .

Though I am sure your children will have as many memories to hold dear when their outgrown hoodies are discovered at the back of their cupboard having been chewed by moths and now only fit for cutting up as dusters. Grin

OldHag1 · 22/06/2018 20:00

Jeez another thread where the op gets ripped to pieces.

My 10 year old would be upset if her name was spelt incorrectly. She probably would have gotten used to it after a few days and worn the hoodie. Every child is different and your daughter has a past with unhappy memories attached to that name. The PTA should get the wrong hoodies replaced with the correct spellings.

You can order similar from eBay

mumof3boys33 · 22/06/2018 20:00

When my son got a leavers hoodie we had to go online and fill in our own child’s name, choose size etc. So that way any mistakes will have been ours or the print company. Surely the best way to do it.

raisedbyguineapigs · 22/06/2018 20:05

I agree Viques. I still have my autograph book from leaving secondary school. It has some really lovely personal messages in from my friends, with pictures and messages specific to me. A hoodie with a list of pre printed names, half of them of people you didn't even like or know? Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's better. I bet it's parents all jumping on the same bandwagon rather than the kids who have made this a thing. They grow out of them and they cant even be given to the charity shop!

BrewDoggy · 22/06/2018 20:15

AIBU to expect all hoodies to be recalled and corrected?

Fucking hell. How sad and precious.

Padstowonthames · 22/06/2018 20:20

Lol. What are you like. First world problem.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 22/06/2018 20:44

I’m also a bit surprised every family out of sixty kids ordered one too

We only have one or two that don't get one out of 90. Ours had them shortly after Easter and have been wearing them since then to and from school, at break times and on the residential trip, so have had a fair amount of wear.
