School leavers hoodie is wrong

Namechangedforthispost18 · 21/06/2018 12:00

We ordered a school leavers hoodie for our dd, at a cost of nearly £20.
The PTA were in charge all proceeds going to the school, we recently changed DD surname however old surnames is now a middle name.

So we asked for previous surname and new one to be on it so the kids in class would know who it was and it would have the new surname we legally have to use on too.

The front has the initials on and is correct, both surnames.

The back is completely wrong.

They've left out punctuation within her name, and it only includes her old surname.

The school are claiming it is the PTA's fault, PTA are claiming it is a data protection issue (although it was handed from 1 person to the next to another) and that they couldn't clarify names however we confirmed it via facebook and have screenshots, we are not the only one to have a child with an incorrect name on the hoodie.

The pta and school are refusing to recall the hoodies or communicate with us or update us. Yet they've updated another parent and told them the wrong name will be scraped off and the right one stuck on top (it will look shit).

AIBU to expect all hoodies to be recalled and corrected? Her friends will have the wrong name on.

Also we the leavers are wearing theirs but the children without correct named hoodies have had them taken and are left out. This is causing other kids to laugh at these pupils.
The pta member who royally f up, her child is blaming the parents for giving her mother the wrong spellings etc and is intimidating the kids.

The school arent touching the issue with a barge pole.

Do I have rights as a consumer?

Pleased you are over it. Hope the next school is not so full of bullies.

lljkk · 21/06/2018 19:52

I wear DC's Leavers' hoodies. They're very comfy. Do wish they had chosen colours that suit me better, though.

YouStacey · 21/06/2018 20:05

We have also been told by the school the school nor the PTA are involved and the list of names were given to a parent, and it is they who ordered them! So much for data protection!!
Omg! Call the cops! Names that parents agreed could be printed on items of outdoor apparel are passed to a parent to facilitate the ordering process - and it's a data protection issue Hmm

theforceisstrong · 21/06/2018 20:13

I think you sound like a drama queen and perhaps your daughter is too - in which case she may we'll be over exaggerating the fact that 58 people are bullying her because her name is spelt wrong on a hoodie

KataraJean · 21/06/2018 20:14

Oh for goodness sake, my DC’s leaver’s hoodie has the wrong name. DC’s friends know who is meant. I was a bit peeved no-one had checked, but DC loves the hoodie and was quite happy, so we just made a joke of it. The person who ordered them did it in their own time, and mistakes happen.

If you read correctly you would see my comment on data protection was in jest!!

The person in charge said they couldn't proofread the design due to the school not allowing her due to data protection! I was saying that if they were that concerned about data protection they wouldn't have given the details to 3 people/parents/pta. Nor would they have sent the design with the same info to the parent to proofread or even designed them if no one could see a list of names that are going to be on the back of the hoodies!

@theforceisstrong judge me all you like for my posts, but you haven't been in my Childs shoes and you don't know her and blaming her for the actions and words of others is not on.

A lot of posts here, it is obvious people haven't read all the updates and they are now the ones making a meal out of the issue.

There is NO issue, we do not care about the hoodie anymore.

Just like us then, we were peeved and now we don't care.

@theforceisstrong

Also, I only know about the bullying as the mother of another child with an incorrectly spelt name told my Husband. My daughter never told me until today, when she told me she didn't want it if they were going to treat her that way.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 21/06/2018 20:44

So you're upset that the name she has been known by for the last 16-18 years is on the jumper, and you want one that she has only used for a few months on it instead?

Er...yes! Do you know how disrespectful it is to get someone's name wrong?!

LARLARLAND · 21/06/2018 20:58

Why do you care so much? It’s only a hoodie.

BoneyBackJefferson · 21/06/2018 21:01

Fluckle
I did the leavers hoodies a few years ago. Most thankless task ever, and I've been on PTAs for years so I've got a looooong list of thankless tasks.

I agree with this, it took an absolute age to get the hoodies right and even then complaints where made.

Blueisland · 21/06/2018 21:03

Doesn’t matter. Laugh it off and let your DD do the same.

theforceisstrong · 21/06/2018 21:05

Drama llama

oracle2811 · 21/06/2018 21:08

I would not bother getting so worked up about it. My DD wear her leavers hoody once and i have never seen it since!

QuinnElle · 21/06/2018 21:21

It's a mess

Its a £20 primary school hoodie. Calm down for gods sake. All the fucking drama.

Mammalamb · 21/06/2018 22:00

Yabvu to be making such a fuss. Over on another thread a woman is planning her child’s funeral, so I guess that’s colouring why I think your complaint is so trivial

Kokeshi123 · 22/06/2018 00:44

When did hoodies become a thing for Y6s?

Come to think of it, when did all this fuss over "leaving" become such a thing for Y6s?

What is the point of a hoodie they will probably never wear again?

Shouldn't school PTAs be spending any funds on things that have educational value, like a field trip or something?

The whole thing sounds ridiculous.

MarthasGinYard · 22/06/2018 08:01

'When did hoodies become a thing for Y6s?

I know, ridiculous isn't it.

AnnUnderTheFryingPan · 22/06/2018 08:10

Oh fuck. I did the Leavers hoodies this year.

I have checked them a hundred times.

The reply slip stipulated what name was to be used.
No surnames due to data protection. Initial only.

If there’s a mistake (which isn’t down to the printers) I’m afraid I’d be offering a refund and paying the cost of it myself. That would be the best I could do.

I’d hope there would be some understanding and appreciation that I was the only person to step up and did everything I could to make them perfect.

AnnUnderTheFryingPan · 22/06/2018 08:12

Leaving primary is a pretty big deal. After SATs it’s all about leaving. Maybe it’s not such a big deal if they’re all going to the same high school, but around here they all head off in different directions.

kierenthecommunity · 22/06/2018 09:12

If the kids at the school are so vile I’m surprised your DD wanted a hoody to remember them by in the first place.

I’m also a bit surprised every family out of sixty kids ordered one too

AnnPerkins · 22/06/2018 09:41

Fuck's sake. I'm sorry for all the nasty replies here, OP. Why can't people read your posts properly rather than scrolling down as fast as possible because they can't wait to post and stick the boot in Angry

It's clear from your later posts that the school fucked this up. And that you have since spoken to the poor parent they dropped in the shit and you're not blaming them. AND that you are now over the whole thing and so is your DD.

And I'm sorry your DD has suffered such bullying. It sounds like a shit school. I hope she has a much happier time at her next one Flowers

IrmaFayLear · 22/06/2018 09:58

That's simply not true, AnnPerkins.

People weren't sticking the boot in , just trying to get the OP to see that in the grand scheme of things she was indeed unreasonable, especially in thinking that the school should have the whole year group's hoodies reprinted! It is a hoody. And the name change was very recent.

And, as kierenthecommunity observes, if the kids are so horrid then it's good riddance to the school and hello to the £20 that will be refunded for the wrong hoody.

ICantCopeAnymore · 22/06/2018 10:07

@MyLearnedFriend

You think I don't realise that? You do realise you can't put apostrophes in usernames? Goodness me Grin

OP - I have Fibro too. It doesn't excuse being a bit of a pain in the arse. I'm glad you got your refund though.

raisedbyguineapigs · 22/06/2018 10:17

I think the hoodies thing is ridiculous too! A hoodie? At the start of summer? And something that is just going to be embarrassing in September when the kids are at High School. Get them a book or a T-shirt for their friends to write messages on, like they did in my day Grin
