DH just gone away for three days, otherwise he would talk me down I’m sure. But right now it’s just me and the DC and I’ve opened DDs room to discover this.... nest? Chrysalis? It’s about 5cm x 3cm. Help!

Its definitely not a wasps nest, we had one and they are very papery.

I'd use the cup and card method (like with spiders) and put it outside. Its probably a pupa of some kind, or a snail.

Tinkobell · 20/06/2018 19:38

Just go and blow very gently on it OP and report back on reactions....does it flinch, shudder etc?

singadream · 20/06/2018 19:38

Marking place shamelessly

Eenymeeny123 · 20/06/2018 19:39

I'm so sorry you're living with this monster but can I say I'm thoroughly enjoying your post and others responses. It has seriously made me laughGrin now if it was me who had THAT as a visitor i would have first vomited and then moved out. What kind of snails do you people have!!! Snails are cutish that is just scary and not from this world!!, give me a mouse any day!!👽👾🐀🐌

NoParticularPattern · 20/06/2018 19:39

100% overinvested in this. I can see why people think it’s a snail! I’ve never seen one like it but it’s either a snail or first contact with an alien life form. Just saying.

73kittycat73 · 20/06/2018 19:39

Thanks for those DrFoxtrot. Smile

Tinkobell · 20/06/2018 19:39

Contact your local wildlife trust?

LucyAutumn · 20/06/2018 19:39

Another one for snail! Come on OP, be brave and give it a poke Grin

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 20/06/2018 19:40

Ohhh 11 pages...what happens next?

Doobydoo · 20/06/2018 19:40

What are you hoping the towel will do?Grin

AlwaysDancing1234 · 20/06/2018 19:40

That’s some scary shit whatever it is! Do you have a brave neighbour who could come and get rid of it for you?

Betsy86 · 20/06/2018 19:41

Ok totally s placemark i have no suggestions I just need to know wtf that is Grin

RitaMills · 20/06/2018 19:42

OMG, I couldn’t resist poking it. I’d be right in there inspecting it. Looks like a snail to me but surely if you’ve stood under it you’d see the slimey underbelly which would presumably be quite noticeable. If it had just appeared it can’t be a nest can it? Are nests built that quick?

shinycat · 20/06/2018 19:42

This is just getting a bit daft now. It's obviously a snail, and the OP is now leaving the thread!

Just get a big glass and a piece of card and move it! (The OP said it's only 2" across!)

Tinkobell · 20/06/2018 19:44

If you don't want physical contact with the lovely nature-thingy, why don't you try sticking a stereo in the room...play something loud and horrid (like Robbie Williams), leave the window open for an escape and then see if it just flutters away?!

RainbowGlitterFairy · 20/06/2018 19:44

Can people stop telling OP to put it outside please! How will we ever find out what it is if OP doesn't keep it long enough to see if it hatches/anything comes out?

Sweetpea55 · 20/06/2018 19:45

spray it with hairspray,,deoderant airfreshener or bath cleaner
Failing that ring the police

Fgs - parenting??? You can't be serious. We need to know what it is. It will of course be a snail. It needs a name - Sebastian?

bimbobaggins · 20/06/2018 19:45

It looks like a pile of shite to me. I don’t know how anyone can see snail.

Tinkobell · 20/06/2018 19:46

@Rainbow......something might hatch!!!! So OP could be a proud parent tonight?! Waiting with baited breath!!!

EmmaC78 · 20/06/2018 19:47

All three photos look like a snail. Surely you have dealt with worse things in life than having to pick up a snail and put it outside. Don't wait 3 days for your DP to come home.

SerenDippitty · 20/06/2018 19:47

I think it’s a 🐌.

Problematique · 20/06/2018 19:47

Yes it does look like that nightjar pic! Looks feathery to me

tastylancs · 20/06/2018 19:47

Bluetroos I honestly am normally a competent brave member of society. Yes I did make and push out two new people and have since cleared up mountains of shite.

But this.... my fear is that it is not a snail but a nest and if I poke it I will meet the residents.

I’d love it to be a snail. I can see the sort of snail shape people are talking about. And possibly a foot attaching it to the wall. But there is no trail. And it’s up near the ceiling.

Really must put youngest to bed.
