what is it with cats?

Neighbour's cat keeps coming to our back door, crying to be let in. We've never let her in. She's just now hopped up on our window sill, giving out to us. We've never paid her any attention, given her any food, given her the least encouragement. Surely at this stage she should have realised that we're just not interested and she's barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.
Why do cats do this? Does she think that we should be overjoyed that she's picked us to do her bidding? If we'd shown her any kindness, given her food, would we now be her new owners? Is this how it happens when people steal someone else's cat? Why won't she be told?

This is my sisters cat. Affectionately called "Asshole". He is the only cat that my DH doesn't seem to have sneezing fits over but she has no idea of his lineage. He's very fluffy though.

Also it's not an option for us to acquire him. They are fond of him

Our neighbour's half bengal cat is always outside our patio doors looking cute and trying to get in. Trouble is he's a bad tempered shitbag who is hated by our cats. (I still stroke him when I see him and quite often get clouted for it).

GallicosCats · 19/06/2018 16:33

We've got quite a character visiting our garden - white with tabby markings and an incongruous striped tabby tail. Rubs up against us, tries to get in (doesn't succeed though) and is very interested in something living in the undergrowth that passes for our flowerbeds. According to our NDN it's also terrorising their elderly 14-year-old tabby so she shoos it away.

Ollivander84 · 20/06/2018 00:33

Mine didn't get the memo about how to be a cat. He never goes to other people, demands hugs and brushing and kisses all day and has no concept of aloof. He's also utterly terrified of spiders/bugs and will run away and shout "ma-ma" (I'm not even joking) until I get rid of them Hmm

However I also appear to have cat spa on an invisible sign outside and cats regularly appear in my living room. I go for a shower and come out to find a cat on my bed. I said hi to my cat as he strolled in, only to realise it wasn't mine

Neither of these are my cat...

Awww. Fabulous post Ollivander84! I love your cat who says ma-ma. Grin

My little Tybalt doesn't catch mice (thank goodness!) but he's obsessed with bugs (even the teensiest, barely visible ones), moths and spiders. Basically anything that isn't too big. Grin

I love your visitors!

pinkgirl1234 · 20/06/2018 00:46

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats - I just adore that photo of the cat creeping up behind yours! I want to shout "He's behind you!". Grin

My darling little Tybalt looks just like your cat. He's bigger (although still not a big cat) and shaggier now than in the photos I posted above. He's very shaggy at the moment with it being winter here.

Ollivander84 · 20/06/2018 00:48

pink - he says mama at the very end of this video Grin

God we love cats and always had one but they are vile. Literally horrible to us.

Our first cat 1982 we rescued from a car crash and had for 19 years. We adored him
And he scratched and bit us and the kids. Many many times.

Numerous others but all psychos. Wink our tiny dog is petrified by our present dictator.

Lovecats though

So he does! Grin

I've just got a six-month-old black male shorthair rescue kitten. He's driving me CRAZY at the moment, but he's going to be an absolute sweetheart when he grows up. I hope he is a big cat!

IlikemyTeahot · 20/06/2018 17:50

How long have you lived there? Is it possible she once lived there and got left behind and the neighbours took her in...seems very unusual, unless she is getting old and confused.
Or she might be thirsty/hungry and someone used to feed her there.

lessthanBeau · 20/06/2018 17:58

Here's my elderly madam, she's 21yrs old and has outlived her son, daughter and 3 granddaughters, she's the last one of our 4 she's grubby and a bit smelly now, when she's gone. No more cats. I'm getting a new sofa and replacing all carpets Smile neighbours tabby regularly tries to get into our house and beats up our old lady we've had to lock the flap now but our cat never goes out anyway unless she wants to eat grass to throw up on the chair/rug, never on the tile floor that's easy to clean only soft furnishings will do!
