what is it with cats?

Neighbour's cat keeps coming to our back door, crying to be let in. We've never let her in. She's just now hopped up on our window sill, giving out to us. We've never paid her any attention, given her any food, given her the least encouragement. Surely at this stage she should have realised that we're just not interested and she's barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.
Why do cats do this? Does she think that we should be overjoyed that she's picked us to do her bidding? If we'd shown her any kindness, given her food, would we now be her new owners? Is this how it happens when people steal someone else's cat? Why won't she be told?

People own dogs, cats own people.

People own dogs, cats own people.

I read this somewhere; Dogs think to themselves "They feed me, love me, and give me a place to live. They must be god". Cats think "They feed me, love me, and give me a place to live. I must be god".

We took in a stray when I was little. My folks spent a fortune on vets bills as he was a scrapper and had a hole torn in his throat. He came home with a clean bill of health and promptly moved next door. It was a posh house with a swimming pool so I guess he upgraded. Cats give zero fucks!

My kitten has just started going out and all the neighbours are saying he's been snooping around their garages, car boots, houses etc. and has been really chatty and friendly with them.

He's not hungry, just loves being around humans and is generally a nosy bugger. I'm worried someone will start to illegally adopt him though! He won't wear a collar but is chipped.

lessthan I thought never again after my ginger boy died at 19, and here I am with two feline overlords. I lasted about 2-3 years before I succumbed. Life just isn't right without a cat or two.

Is that a tortoise I see? Two of my past masters spent endless hours trying and failing to work out how to open that mobile tin of food.

She's a beautiful cat, but of course, she knows that. :-)

Found her asleep in a basket in our laundry room last night. She looks well fed and cared for. And I wouldn't think that our house is quieter than where she's coming from
I wouldn't mind so much but we have guinea pigs. Will a cat attack the guinea pigs.

Lol at the naive human beings who think they can train a cat and expect obedience!

Loving the pictures of cats. I miss having a cat, but the hound is scared of them.....

Because they like a challenge, have a strong sense of entitlement, high expectations and absolutely no boundaries whatsoever.

The other day the cat (not the one I posted a photo of, we had him twenty years ago) sat on my lap while I had a visitor. The visitor was most perplexed at the fact I couldn't get up while the cat was on my lap. Cat people understand it though. Oh and what's even better, I don't even officially have a cat, he just decided he was going to move in and we had no choice in the matter.
