what is it with cats?

Neighbour's cat keeps coming to our back door, crying to be let in. We've never let her in. She's just now hopped up on our window sill, giving out to us. We've never paid her any attention, given her any food, given her the least encouragement. Surely at this stage she should have realised that we're just not interested and she's barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.
Why do cats do this? Does she think that we should be overjoyed that she's picked us to do her bidding? If we'd shown her any kindness, given her food, would we now be her new owners? Is this how it happens when people steal someone else's cat? Why won't she be told?

She’s fine was just her jabs and annual health check. It was meant to be her brother going today but he declined to get in the carrier. He is hissing under the bed, he doesn’t know yet but he’s going on Thursday

Cat haters hate cats because they're evil, unfriendly, greedy, selfish bastards with zero fucks given about you, your health or your mental state.

And cat lovers love cats for exactly the same reasons

I think that's true. I have a friend who isn't too keen on cats because they appear not to give a fuck about you - aren't subservient enough - but it's their snooty attitude that I love.

Grin They do try our patience!

He's beautiful. Real lord and master by the look of him.

Timeisslippingaway

You should let wellfuckme's cat in on your furniture...

This is so true and yes to pinkgirl too - I love the snootiness.

My cat is hilarious when she's annoyed with me she comes straight in for the friendly biff with the head and deliberately skims past me not giving the head butt. It's a deliberate snub - puts me in my place.

She also comes in the OPEN back door and walks straight to the front door to be let out - this is called demonstrating your power to the minions and is an essential part of their training. She is completely in charge here.

Some gorgeous cats on this thread.

So OP yes, cats rule and you are to know your place subservient minion.

Oh he is lord and master... he’s too clever for his own good. My partners kids still doesn’t know he exists. He hides until they go to bed when they stay over then appears like he owns the joint

SolemnlySwear2010 · 19/06/2018 12:25

Our cat is now affectionately known as 'Twat Cat'. I said from the beginning that he was not allowed in our room - he now sleeps on our bed with us Blush.

Also, during the night he will meow at the window until my DH wakes up to open the window and allow him out. He will then meow/scratch the window outside about an hour later to be let back in - this happens most nights Smile.

We put up with it because we love him because he is a complete sweetie to our DD and cuddles up with her and never even attempts to scratch or bite her, me and the DH aren't so lucky!

My puss. Beautiful girl but, everything, every single thing, is on her terms.

I want a cat. My son wants a cat. My husband is allergic to cats..... my son asked in that innocence tone that only children's can ask: "mummy when daddy dies, can we get a cat?"
Grin
Yes my love. Yes we will get a cat when daddy dies..... daddy is only 30........

On a related note..... what do we know about "hypoallergenic" cats? Myth or miracle????

SolemnlySwear2010 · 19/06/2018 12:54

ApollO88 - i am allergic to cats, my sister has a cat and I immediately cant breathe as soon as i enter her house. My asthma kicks up and i get a rash all over.

We went to a cat shelter last year and within minutes i had to leave as even inside my ears were itching.

However, we tried again a few months ago and i didn't have a severe reaction, i then held a cat for a few mins and was fine. We adopted him and i have never had a reaction, even though he routinely like to sleep on/near my face.

I still seem to react to every other cat / animal though - except him Confused.

I would go to a few shelters and see how your DH reacts.

SolemnlySwear2010 · 19/06/2018 12:55

ApollO88 also ours is a Maine Coon - so not hypoallergenic and he has quite a long thick coat.

Katgurl · 19/06/2018 13:01

Why are you being so disobedient?

Elspeth12345 · 19/06/2018 13:04

Get a dog? Also enjoyed your reference to said cat 'Barking up the wrong tree' lol.

It could just be that the cat likes the look of your house!

sashh · 19/06/2018 13:10

ApollO88

Send your dh to be desesitised. I know of a vet in a a small animal practice who was allergic to cats, he had to have treatment because you can't really work with small animals if you can't work with cats.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 19/06/2018 13:11

Any of you are welcome to my “cat”. He really is a dick.

RepealRepealRepeal · 19/06/2018 13:19

My neighbour grows catnip in her garden. My cat doesn't give her any attention at all, but spends his days under the catnip. Comes home stoned out of his tree for dinner. She's actually harvesting, and drying some for him, so he'll have a winter supply.

A friend of mine is really allergic to cats. So she takes a daily dose of antihistamines.

User For the love of all that's holy, don't mention the v word out loud. Took me seven months to get dcat to the vets for neutering. I stupidly kept mentioning it within his ear shot, so he kept wandering off, I'd cancel the appointment, and he'd appear for breakfast the next day. He even went to the bother of disappearing for two months. I won in the end, and he has no balls.

VikingBlonde · 19/06/2018 13:33

@SolemnlySwear2010 I had a skogkatt (Norwegian Forest Cat) cross which has never given even the worst allergic people a sniffle. And our nursery had a Siberian which was the same. I think it's the spot not the dander? Worth a bit of research

GrumpyInsomniac · 19/06/2018 13:34

My cats didn't get the memo about being snooty, and are very affectionate. But the two boys are utter tarts and do like to visit as many people as possible. Since moved north I have heard one of them goes and sleeps by the fire in a nearby cafe, while the other has been known to use a neighbour's cat flap in order to access her husband's study and sleep on his window sill.

They have all the food and comforts they could want here, and are called home with Dreamies at bedtime every night because the smallest cat would probably be rabbit-sized to the owls we hear at dusk. They're just sociable and like to be loved by lots of people. And one of them likes to come on walks round the village with me, and complains at the door if I stop in the shop.

My husband had never had pets before living with me. Now I think he'd be lost without a cat. I'd certainly never be able to live without the little furry gits.

Repeal he used to enjoy going he would sit purring in the waiting room, however we used to lure him into the carrier with dreamies however these days they seem to make him sick so need a new lure

user1467976192 · 19/06/2018 13:56

@Apollo....😆. Borrowed time, then. For your DH!

FluffingtonPost · 19/06/2018 15:30

Aw loving all these pictures! I’ll have to find one of my 3, affectionately knows as Absolute Dickhead, Bear (surprisingly well behaved for a cat) & Little Shit...not sure my DP knows their real names anymore Grin
