How the hell is it possible to look like this woman??

OK I qas having that Sunday sadness feeling and now I'm feeling casually pissed off and jealous because I went on FB and an ad popped up featuring this woman (Tammy Hemsomething apparently).

How is it possible to look like this?! What I mean is is this the result of just working out or what? But how can she get her body fat down so low for the waist, but not on her bum or tits?!

Obviously I'm not an expert.

Obviously. I mean, last week you had no idea who she was. No clue. None.

But - correct me if I'm wrong - if she was selling herself as a sex object surely her personal photos would be of her posing sexily in lingerie?

You mean, like in the photo above?

Not her children or fitness activities?

Her children are part of her PR image, at least according to what you've said in your post. As for her 'fitness activies' we've done that one.

If there's a teacher who absolutely cannot stand her ears, they make her feel self-conscious and uncomfortable and hates them, I don't see why she shouldn't have surgery if they will make her feel better.

Her ears?

Why not his ears?

And you're picking a fairly extreme example. Ears are pretty obvious and can really change how you look. Plus, having them pinned back is a pretty simple procedure not nearly as invasive as getting your chest cut open under general anaesthetic - all in pursuit of pornstar tits. But you know that, don't you?

IcedPurple · 21/06/2018 14:45

I said her dedication and ambition and what she does with her children made her inspiring, not the size of her boobs.

What does she 'do with her children' that millions of other mothers don't do every day? Surely the women you see around you are more 'inspiring' than some "Instagram influencer" on the other side of the world who you only found out about a few days ago.

It's also simply not true that people only get surgery for life-or-death reasons.

it's also simply not true that I ever said that. I said most people only get surgery for health reasons, not to get a gigantic beachball shaped arse.

INeedAnAero · 21/06/2018 14:48

My over riding feeling is that she is sexualising herself to promote something that has nothing to do with sex.
Why does it have to filter into everything?
Great, be into fitness and health, thats brilliant, but why can't it be just that?
If you can't see that her poses and facial expressions are overly sexualised then there's no going back for you.

And the argument that it has always been so 'sex sells' just doesn't wash. We're supposed to be a progressive society.
There's lots of things that have always been 'just so' it doesn't make them right.
We've spent generations trying to change unhealthy mind sets and attitudes. Racism, poor attitudes towards women, treatment of those with learning difficulties etc.
And this is something that needs to change too.
We can promote healthy attitudes towards fitness without sex.

rosesandflowers1 · 21/06/2018 14:50

Obviously. I mean, last week you had no idea who she was. No clue. None.

I don't know where you're trying to go with this. If you have some weird conspiracy that I'm her mother or something just say so. These obscure hints are strange and oddly ominous and I could do with a good laugh

You mean, like in the photo above?

  1. We still don't know if it's a personal photo. I don't think it's a recent one and unless someone is willing to scroll through her account until they find it we won't know.
  2. Having one sexy photo doesn't mean your whole image is based on sex. If someone had 10 photos, 8 of them were of their cycling club and the other 2 were sexy pics, I'd say that based on that, the bike club was their priority.

Her children are part of her PR image, at least according to what you've said in your post. As for her 'fitness activies' we've done that one.

So … her PR image isn't based on her being sexually attractive, it's based on her children (and fitness)?

Glad we're in agreement on that.

Also obviously I think she does very clearly adore her kids. The captions and her video interactions with them I think are very loving. Obviously I don't know her and she could just be a very good actress who is very good at putting fake emotion into words, but I think it's more plausible that she just loves her children.

Why not his ears?

You've stated multiple times that women are more likely to have plastic surgery, which is true. I'd think using a male example is counterproductive.

Ears are pretty obvious and can really change how you look. Plus, having them pinned back is a pretty simple procedure not nearly as invasive as getting your chest cut open under general anaesthetic - all in pursuit of pornstar tits. But you know that, don't you?

I don't have much experience of breast augmentation Hmm Do you think I've had plastic surgery?

In which case, I'm happy to say no. It's not an option I'm personally inclined to.

I just chose ears because my niece recently got her ears pinned back. In that case, if there's a teacher who feels really uncomfortable because her breasts are too small, and she won't wear low-cut tops and hates going swimming and generally just feels very insecure about them, she could go and get plastic surgery to feel more confident and happy. On the flipside, if we have a librarian whose breasts are very large and they make her feel silly and she has back pains and struggles to find a bra that fits, she's welcome to have them reducted.

Not my business, not my choice.

rosesandflowers1 · 21/06/2018 14:53

What does she 'do with her children' that millions of other mothers don't do every day?

Obviously lots of mothers will do things with their children. But I think that, especially as they get older, you can stop taking them to activities and buying them matching pyjamas and having fun family nights, especially as much as you used to.

Her account was a reminder to maybe do those things before my children move out and it becomes a lot harder.

Great, be into fitness and health, thats brilliant, but why can't it be just that?

It's not so much that "sex sells" but that, in the current fitness industry, having a shape that is considered attractive is selling - because you really don't need expensive surgery to get a slim waist or a big bum. Her promoting her body shape is a way of promoting the workouts she might have that are supposed to enhance these features.

rosesandflowers1 · 21/06/2018 14:56

it's also simply not true that I ever said that. I said most people only get surgery for health reasons, not to get a gigantic beachball shaped arse.

Which is why most people only do it as a last resort

Your suggestion of the "last resort" had a slightly foreboding tone to it. Sorry if I misinterpreted.

Also, that particular phrase suggests that there's no other option. Whereas for most, more minor health problems than, say, kidney failure, there is another option. It's just less effective and often more time-consuming than surgery would be.

INeedAnAero · 21/06/2018 14:57

Her facial expressions and the way she holds her body are deliberately sexual.

IcedPurple · 21/06/2018 15:03

Mother loves her children!

Stop the presses, please!

I've never met a mother who doesn't love her children. Most of them, however, don't use that feel the need to convince total strangers of that. But then, they're not marketing themselves on the interwebs.

Her account was a reminder to maybe do those things before my children move out and it becomes a lot harder.

Isn't it a good thing that you just so happened to come across Tammy and her arse (just one week ago, mind)? Otherwise, you'd never have realised how important it is to do stuff with your kids!

And since you believe in getting 'inspiration' from complete strangers, wouldn't you be better doing that stuff with your kids instead of pouring so much time and energy into defending a silicone-enhanced Instagrammer? Especially since, as we know, you didn't have the foggiest who she was only a few days ago.

Anyway, I think we're running around in circles now so I'll leave you to enjoy your new-found Tammyness.

rosesandflowers1 · 21/06/2018 15:03

Her facial expressions and the way she holds her body are deliberately sexual.

Sure, in this photo. Maybe she was just feeling sexy one night and took a risqué pic? I think it's fairly clear from her page that she's more interested in her career and her children than sexy poses.

Or - and it would help me out a lot if someone could recognise the underwear brand - this photo was taken to appeal to a particular customer base? Obviously most Instagram influencers change the "look" of each photo to appeal to the most likely fan base of each product.

rosesandflowers1 · 21/06/2018 15:05

It's a Thursday, my love. The only one not in school is DD1, who's taking advantage of her early summer and out with her friends.

I don't see why her being 'silicon-enhanced' would make her achievements less admirable to me.

I also don't get why you think it's strange to be inspired by strangers Confused Lots of people I'm inspired by I don't know personally. Same with most people, I'd have thought.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 21/06/2018 16:06

IcedPurple
reading all your post make me picture you with a very VERY unflattering body appearance.

Is that fair or realistic? Probably not, but how is that any difference than posters now judging the family values, brain or IQ of this Tammy person based on one photo!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/06/2018 16:16

I've never met IcedPurple but I'm certain she cannot have an "unflattering body appearance".

Clothes can be flattering, make up can be flattering, body appearance just is, it doesn't flatter anything.

Jonbb · 21/06/2018 16:24

On a final note, I think I would shoot myself if I had to do the stuff this woman has done to get attention. It's a shame.

Lethaldrizzle · 21/06/2018 16:30

Its v porny

rosesandflowers1 · 21/06/2018 16:42

I think I would shoot myself if I had to do the stuff this woman has done to get attention.

I'd say it was a career she's gotten, rather than attention.

But I agree I'd find it very difficult. Not just achieving the body, but maintaining it - and also always having to look perfect, polished in public etc. - even to go food shopping.

But what can I say? Some people are more attuned to this lifestyle than others, or feel that the benefits outweigh the problems.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 21/06/2018 17:22

I've never met IcedPurple but I'm certain she cannot have an "unflattering body appearance".

I was trying to be politically correct and meant something like she doesn't look great to say the least.

Again, no way of knowing if that's true or not, just pointing out that making judgement about intelligence, family values, work ethic based on one photo are as ridiculous as deducting the body shape of a poster based on her comments...but some posters seem to think that's it's perfectly acceptable. Is it?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/06/2018 17:36

So you were trying to insult her in a "politically correct" way?

rosesandflowers1 · 21/06/2018 18:01

So you were trying to insult her in a "politically correct" way?

I wouldn't say "politically correct". It's more along the lines of "tactful."

IMO politically correct is a stupid phrase anyway.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/06/2018 18:05

I'm quoting ikeep there.

Gretol · 21/06/2018 18:06

I don't see why her being 'silicon-enhanced' would make her achievements less admirable to me

And therein lies the issuey

Gretol · 21/06/2018 18:07

*issue

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 21/06/2018 18:11

I wouldn't say "politically correct". It's more along the lines of "tactful."
thank you rosesandflowers1 it makes much more sense.

Do you think it's ok to insult people and make huge assumptions based on a photo or a few postsChardonnaysPrettySister ? My point was that it really is not.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/06/2018 18:22

I gave my opinion on the photo, I'm not getting drawn into this again.

It's not ok to try and insult posters and then hide behind "political correctness".

You are misusing a good concept for your own purpose here. This isn't right, this is now political correctness has turned into a something it's not.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/06/2018 18:24

You might want to apologise, instead of going on the offensive in a classic deflection move.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 21/06/2018 18:35

I am absolutely not going to apologise, I am not hiding behind anything, but I am really glad that we agree: factual opinion is one thing, but it's not acceptable to make nasty judgments and assumptions based on photos (or comments) even if the subject of the photos happens to be beautiful and slim.

That's what I have been saying all along. What on earth do you want me to apologise for!
