Aibu Father's Day card from pets

I have happened upon a "fanpage" on Facebook called The world according to Dylan, about what looks like a severely obese cat and the first post is a card "from the cat" to one of the owners.

This strikes me as an odd thing. I've seen people put the animal's name in addition to the rest of the family but not send a card specifically from it.

Do you send cards from your pets to people? Aibu to think this is a bit silly?

Ddog always gets everyone cards but not presents. I'm going to have a word with him!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 17/06/2018 16:10

I got our husky to do a paw print on a card I made Blush

OliviaStabler · 17/06/2018 16:11

Wish someone would buy me a Mother's Day card from my cats

Celticlassie · 17/06/2018 16:36

I saw a long thread on mumsnet once about how you shouldn't give cards to FIL as 'he's not my father'. Yet there is a massive consensus saying it's ok to give cards from the Cat / dog. 🤔 Grin

Chattymummyhere · 17/06/2018 16:41

I find it highly bizarre. I’ve seen a few pop up on my fb today. The only thing a cat or dog should celebrate on mother’s day or father’s day would be their own mother or father and as a human being you are not that and since they don’t have money or go to the shops they wouldn’t celebrate their own parents anyway.

FluffingtonPost · 17/06/2018 16:44

As others have said, how the fuck is this affecting you? Are you being pinned down and forced to read messages from the dog? Is the cat pointing a gun at you? Fucks sake, lighten up you miserable bastard.

WeirdCatLady This made me laugh...and then worried because if my cat had thumbs he’d totally point a gun at, well, pretty much everybody for Dreamies Grin

Back on topic...we do this on mother’s day, Father’s Day and Christmas. We’re really struggling to conceive, and at this stage it’s looking like it might never happen. Our pets are a huge pet of our lives, are completely dependent on us and part of our family...so I don’t give a fuck if anyone thinks it’s weird.

mydogisthebest · 17/06/2018 16:55

Me and DH have no children. We do have 2 dogs though. Today they gave DH a nice card and some presents (a book, some choccies and a T Shirt).

For Mothers Day they got me an orchid, choccies and earrings.

They also send us Christmas cards and birthday cards (also presents). We give them a card each on their birthday.

It's one of our dog's birthdays next week so we have bought a card, a couple of toys and he will have a doggie birthday cake (we also put candles on the cake).

I expect a lot of people think that is crazy but I could not care less.

Oh and my parents send the dogs birthday cards and Christmas cards with from nanny and grandad written inside

ChristinaMarlowe · 17/06/2018 16:57

cough Sorry, OP. If it helps, the cat is as thoroughly unimpressed as you are...

'Ddog' has just finished colouring in his card for his Ddaddy.

YABU OP

Gitfeatures · 17/06/2018 17:11

My dad get a card from my dog on fathers day and his birthday.

He doesn't give a shit about getting one from me.

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 17/06/2018 17:12

I get birthday cards from my cats Grin and so does my DH. It's just a silly fun thing.

DeadButDelicious · 17/06/2018 17:14

I used to get Mother's Day and Valentine's Day cards from my dog. I can't tell you how much I miss it now she's gone.

It's a nice bit of fun and does no harm to anyone. YABU.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 17/06/2018 17:45

I really cringe when I see people talking about their "fur babies"

They're not like having children. They're germ ridden, messy animals.

If you want to celebrate mother's/Father's Day then have children.

BiteyShark · 17/06/2018 17:49

Well I think children are germ ridden messy things Grin. I perform motherly roles to my dog so why shouldn't I celebrate Mother's Day. And no I won't have children just so I can buy a FD or MD card.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 17/06/2018 17:50

Yes but children learn and grow up and become independent.

Dogs and cats just stop. It so stupid. They're animals. Get a life and move on.

Eliza9917 · 17/06/2018 17:50

I wish I'd thought of this before. I'd have got dp a card if I had.

It's just a bit of fun, this place sometimes makes me wonder how joyless some ppls homes must be. They want to suck the fun out of everything.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 17/06/2018 17:51

@MrsSnootyPants2018 (which sounds like something I’d call a particularly haughty cat by the way)

Not everyone can have children. Try and find a hint of empathy and understanding in the cold place where your heart should be.

Feel free to cringe away, people as nasty and ignorant as your post makes you sound make me inwardly cringe on their behalf.

OliviaStabler · 17/06/2018 17:52

If you want to celebrate mother's/Father's Day then have children.

Not an option for me unfortunately.

However at least my cats are far kinder that you seem to be from your post.

BiteyShark · 17/06/2018 17:54

Wow aren't you a nice person. I really hope you don't have any animals 'of any kind' with that attitude.

SerenDippitty · 17/06/2018 17:55

Not an option for me either. What a nasty little comment. And wouldn’t “so that we can celebrate Mothers’/Fathers’ day“ be a great reason to have children?

ICantCopeAnymore · 17/06/2018 17:58

Snooty - I think you need to get a life, actually. You sound like a nasty mood hoover.

0h · 17/06/2018 18:01

This is our first year having pets (2 guinea pigs) and when my DS's gave DH their cards I was annoyed that I hadn't thought to get one from the pigs! Blush

Before I had pets this fur-baby thing made me roll my eyes and be fairly scathing and rude about people (only on my head though!) but now I totally get it.

They're part of the family and they definitely see us as part of their pack. So cards from them are definitely going to be a thing now!

FluffingtonPost · 17/06/2018 18:04

@MrsSnootyPants Genuinely what actual impact does this have on your life?? If you are so seriously affected by something so harmless and inane that other people choose to do within their own families of no consequence to you, then I think it’s probably you that needs to get a life and move on

Not to mention your incredibly rude and insensitive comment about people just having their own kids...I mean, really?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/06/2018 18:14

@MrsSnootyPants2018 what's it got to do with you what people do. It's a bit of fun but you probably wouldn't understand what that means.

I think children are messy and germ ridden and I don't care if they grow up to become independent, I don't want to put up with them for the first 18 years thank you!

DH doesn't get anything from his children so the cat always sends him a card and buys him some Caramacs!

Claricestarling1 · 17/06/2018 18:14

We buy each other cards from the cat for birthdays, mother’s and father day and Christmas 😊 we also have a little birthday party for him each year! (Only my DH and I attend haha). Yes it’s silly but not everything in life has to be serious all the time 👍
