Aibu Father's Day card from pets

I have happened upon a "fanpage" on Facebook called The world according to Dylan, about what looks like a severely obese cat and the first post is a card "from the cat" to one of the owners.

This strikes me as an odd thing. I've seen people put the animal's name in addition to the rest of the family but not send a card specifically from it.

Do you send cards from your pets to people? Aibu to think this is a bit silly?

Years ago when I was single on Valentine's Day two of my pets teamed up and (with some help from my sister) got me a mug. I've lost both of those darling boys now but still drink my coffee in the morning from their mug.

Weedsnseeds1 · 17/06/2018 19:34

My cat isn't a big sender of cards ( although he did get me some black paws shaped slippers for my birthday).
However, he will come when called, go to bed when told, sit down to order, doesn't answer back, eats what's put in front of him and was toilet trained at a very early age. Which, I think, puts him ahead of a lot of the 4 year old humans I know! So, not that stupid.

DameDoom · 17/06/2018 19:45

My cats have excellent taste in presents and they enjoy spending their pawket money. Every day that they don't regurgitate in the house, they get 20p in a jar which they can spend on presents for loved ones.

I do feel sorry for some of the completely miserable bastards on this thread.

crispysausagerolls · 17/06/2018 19:49

I am shocked by two things on here:

  1. how miserable some people are
  2. that people get such lovely presents from their pets! My dog is going to get a stern talking to 🙈
NoCanoe · 17/06/2018 19:53

I/We celebrate our dog and cats birthdays too.
They dont get cards.....but they get presents and sung to.

DameDoom · 17/06/2018 19:59

NoCanoe we do too. They do enjoy a nice buffet on a rug in the sitting room.

@busybarbara - is that why im being encouraged to wear rather fetching jacket with tight laces and wraparound arms?
Shock

crispysausagerolls · 17/06/2018 20:27

NoCanoe

It would be rude not to 😂

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 17/06/2018 20:30

It's harmless but it'd make me suspect ill mental health. It's like those people who push dolls around in prams

Prick

DitheringBlidiot · 17/06/2018 20:32

It’s ridiculous, but it’s the kind of ridiculousness I can get behind 100%

billybagpuss · 17/06/2018 20:32

Our new puppy chewed up a box this morning and had a card shaped bit in her mouth when dh came downstairs so he said thank you and put it on the mantle piece Grin

DameDoom · 17/06/2018 20:35

crispysausagerolls Grin Grin Grin

busybarbara · 17/06/2018 20:51

Prick

Oh hush dear, go send your llama a Pancake Day card or something Grin

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 17/06/2018 20:53

@busybarbara 😂😂😂😂

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 17/06/2018 20:58

Taking the piss out of mentally ill people isn’t funny but you appear to think otherwise. How clever you both are. Hmm

ICantCopeAnymore · 17/06/2018 21:14

Wow, what a disgusting, ableist comment. Reporting.

JoantheVampireSlayer · 17/06/2018 21:36

DH doesnt send his own Father a card since he's a violent abuser. After I lost our baby we've TTC with no success for 7 years, so yes, I gave him a silly card from the dog to make him smile on what is otherwise a pretty fucking miserable day...

auditqueen · 17/06/2018 21:39

We too are childless not by choice and our dog gave my partner a Father's Day card this morning. We then went for a nice walk and had brunch in a dog friendly cafe, then went home before the children and their fathers took over everywhere.

For us Father's Day and Mother's Day are massive kicks in the gut. It reminds us that we both desperately wanted children but were unable to have them for whatever reason, and by the time we found each other it was too late.

Neither of us have any mental health issues, thank you very much. We just have a furry companion in our lives who we love to absolute death and enjoy spending time with and doing silly things. FWIW my father came over for afternoon tea for Father's Day and gave a toast to my partner for being a good father to my dog. He wasn't taking the piss, he just gets it.

mydogisthebest · 17/06/2018 21:41

There are some lovely thoughtful pets around. Much kinder hearted than some of the miserable knobs on here.

Most of my friends and family have pets and most of them buy their pets presents on birthdays and Christmas and receive, in return, birthday present/card and Mothers and Fathers Day card and, often, present.

Quite a few friends have posted pictures on facebook today of the lovely presents and cards their pets have sent their daddy.

1stTimeMama · 17/06/2018 21:59

I get irrationally annoyed by anything that humanises an animal.

They are pets. Not children. You are not their parent, you are their owner.

Actually makes me angry. And I have a dog.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/06/2018 22:05

Can I suggest you get annoyed at something that actually affects you @1stTimeMama? If I choose to send a card from my cat it really isn't any of your business.

NoCanoe · 17/06/2018 22:08

@1stTimeMama - what an insensitive and needlessly cruel comment when people have given perfectly valid and justifiable explainations as to why their pets mean so much.

I really shake my head at the gratuitously insensitive comments on here at times. Empathy seems in short supply. Sad

NoCanoe · 17/06/2018 22:16

But I notice the phrase ' irrationally angry ' in your post @1stTimeMama. What else angers you, I wonder?

I told my dog....he shrugged, looked bored and licked his dick. Ah well....

hellokittymania · 17/06/2018 22:22

My guy dog used to send me cards for Mother's Day. Guide dog. Of course my mother would go out and buy them and write them. . I'm not a mother by the way, only to my guide dog. 😂😂
