Duchess of Sussex dress

Looking at pictures of Meghan in a floral dress that she wore at a wedding yesterday, I can't help but believe that maybe it's high time she got herself a better stylist.
The frock is just hideous on such a stunning woman.Shock

TumbleTussocks I totally agree. These designer dresses cost a small fortune - just because something is thousands of pounds doesn't make it look good.

Katinkka · 17/06/2018 13:21

I found a pic. It is indeed hideous

NotTakenUsername · 17/06/2018 13:21

It’s a fugly dress. Would be fugly on Meghan, fugly on the Queen, fugly on a mannequin.

Mrs Brown could pull it off.

TumbleTussocks · 17/06/2018 13:21

Exactly, Blueemerald!

fascinated · 17/06/2018 13:23

I like it!

TumbleTussocks · 17/06/2018 13:23

Illustrating in one sentence the difference views society has of men and women

ok - start a thread on Harry's get up. That'll be fascinating!

Olddear · 17/06/2018 13:24

No, I'm just as likely to criticise a mans dress sense as much as a woman's.

halcyondays · 17/06/2018 13:24

There's not as much variety in mens formal wear, one suit is much like another.

Were Will and Kate not there?

Pepperypig · 17/06/2018 13:24

Blueemeraldagain it's weird on her when you can post the most innocuous thread and you get ripped to shreds. For what it's worth the dress is awful.

MrsMint · 17/06/2018 13:26

Everyone but the chronically naive can see she's an actress playing a role to up her profile - she'll be gone in 5 years and doing the book/interview circuit.

Thinkingofausername1 · 17/06/2018 13:26

Glad I'm Not your friend in rl. Can imagine what your like after a night out!

MeyYael · 17/06/2018 13:27
  1. I don't think commenting on the clothes is inherently 'awful' (or sexist). It's very much about being seen in this case, isn't it? It's not like people are discussing the clothes of someone going for a run etc...
  1. My taste in clothes must be awful (according to Mumsnet). I like the the blue and white dress. And Kitty Spencer's dress is rather nice as well imo.
  1. This dress is however truly awful imo...

I would have actually had no issue if the thread had been started saying "let's discuss the fashion at this wedding" rather than just focusing on one guest and criticising them. There's probably not much difference, but it wouldn't have seemed as nasty.

LeGrandeDame · 17/06/2018 13:32

Blueemeraldagain
Absolutely.

And I loved her dress ( and Kitty's) but that is also a judgement. Is that not allowed either then?

Lockheart · 17/06/2018 13:33

It’s striking though, that you very rarely see a “what was he thinking” thread about a Male sleb’s clothes. Maybe once in a blue moon when someone has worn three types of tartan together topped off with a comedy animal head.

Agreed. However men's fashion tends to be very samey and there's not as much scope for getting it wrong. Look at the pictures of the wedding in question on this thread, for example. All the men are in near-identical morning suits. The same coats, waistcoats, and trousers.

Newyorkhereicome · 17/06/2018 13:38

Mumsnet Madness has posted this thread on twitter already it looks really awful this thread should be reported and taken down

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 17/06/2018 13:39

Nicky, I agree with that. Said thread though wouldn't have stayed 'harmless', it would have degenerated into comments (from Mey's photo, for example) that the dress 'doesn't suit her', 'is too tight', yada yada. It's those comments that are unkind and really unnecessary.

Comments about a dress, like or dislike, are not offensive and only the really dense would think that this is the point of the dissenters on the thread. I'm not fussed on any of the dresses shown on this thread but that's all I have to say about them.

Birdsgottafly · 17/06/2018 13:39

"Mrs Brown could pull it off."

Or Mrs Doyle.

To balance it out, the Groom could do with shedding some weight and I wasn't keen on Harry's choice of waistcoat, he matched William, but i didn't like Williams tie.

Those Men who wore the stripey ties, need sorting out.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 17/06/2018 13:40

I loved the dress

CoughLaughFart · 17/06/2018 13:42

It's like the emperor's new clothes

Who are you to criticise the Emperor’s clothes?!?! Why can’t the Emperor just wear what he wants, FFS?!?!?!?!

CristalTipps · 17/06/2018 13:45

As I said on one of the other threads about this, I liked the dress. I don't know why we insist everything must be form fitting on women. I like the romantic flowy aesthetic. She seems to favour a more relaxed fit, which I find refreshing.

MeyYael · 17/06/2018 13:46

that the dress 'doesn't suit her', 'is too tight', yada yada. It's those comments that are unkind and really unnecessary.

Saying that a dress is too tight (or long, short, loose etc) or doesn't suit someone isn't necessary unkind imo.

As for unnecessary... Yes, I agree. Talking about fashion is generally rather unnecessary.

Skyejuly · 17/06/2018 13:46

Who cates!

Birdsgottafly · 17/06/2018 13:47

Also, we've got the first royal same sex wedding, coming up, so there'll be no Bride, just the Men to have a go at, to balance it out.

BeautyBox · 17/06/2018 13:48

I loved her dress! Just saw it on the Harry thread. She's a beautiful woman and I think her style was reflected well - she certainly looked comfortable
